It looks like something her mother probably sewed from a pattern. Her family wasn’t well off, right? that’s what I mean...prom dresses are rarely known for their “timeless elegance!” LOL! You should have seen mine..it was during the gauzy HIPPY trend! God, I loved that dress...I wouldn’t be caught at a Woodstock reunion costume party wearing it now!

My school did not have proms. We had a Junior-Senior Banquet where we wore formals. I still have my dress. It was kind of old South. I well remember what we paid for it-—a whole $35. I should get it out and see if it fits my granddaughter and get her photo in it. It was strapless with small ruffles down the skirt. A small shawl type thingy came with it. I think 3 or 4 relatives wore it too back then. Wonder if they have their pictures in it.

Actually here family was quite well off, upper middle class. She talks as if she was poor, but she grew up with a father who made the equivalent of $250K in todays wages given inflation.

BTW LOL~ on the visual of your dress... I sort of feel that way about my wedding dress, wish I had a do-over on that... my prom dress was pretty and pink, strapless with full skirt.. very much the rage of the time ...
