MOSCOW (AFP) – Russian media has been poking fun at US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton after she gave her Russian counterpart a "reset" button with an ironic misspelling.

Clinton's gift to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at their meeting in Geneva on Friday evening was meant to underscore the Obama administration's readiness to "to press the reset button" in ties with Moscow.

But instead of the Russian word for "reset" (perezagruzka) it featured a slightly different word meaning "overload" or "overcharged" (peregruzka).

They should ridicule her for it. What is up with the State Department? Don’t they have Russian speaking employees? How could you screw something that simple up.

I have no doubt that the Russian translators in the state department did their job. They handed this to “Snuffy” who is the runner for Hillary’s number two or number three aid. “Snuffy” wrote it down...dropping two letters and then ran to the graphics shop to have this cheapo ‘gift’ made.

As for the temper afterwards...she probably a huge fit. I would have paid to see this.

Forget the mistranslation. The United States Secretary of State giving a plastic red button to the foreign minister of any country, let alone to our greatest adversary of the past 60 years, is an utter and profound embarrassment.

that’s funny, but I think Hillary might enjoy a situation like that, I’m afraid. ;)

An innocent mistake - she got the buttons mixed up. The “overcharge” one was meant for the taxpayers of this country.

” is an utter and profound embarrassment “

It’s much more than ‘embarrassment’, my FRiend...

Between Obama’s protocol disaster with PM Brown, our erstwhile ally, and this ‘gag gift’ to the FM of one of our most significant adversaries, we have signalled that our ‘hopey-changey’ approach to foreign relations is to be childish and trivial - IOW, inconsequential...

Obama and Hillary have signalled that we are not to be taken seriously, and that has potentially catastrophic implications for our national interests, and our very security.....

There is nothing funny about this....

The misspelling aside, what sort of idiot diplomacy is this? How juvenile and childish; certainly not worthy of a great nation. Even worse, it is part and parcel of the O’s administration efforts to continually belittle and besmirch those that came before them, not build on their achievements. It openly implies that everything that went before was wrong.
