Oregon’s unemployment rate increased to 10.8 percent in February from 9.8 percent in January, according to data released Monday by the Oregon Employment Department.

That’s more than 2 percent points higher than the national unemployment rate of 8.1 percent.

Oregon now has the second-highest unemployment rate in the country, behind only Michigan (11.6 percent).

Most of them are Democrats, so this is progress.

Hard times in OBama's eco-topia. Too bad they killed off the lumber industry, maybe there would be a few more jobs still around.

Well at least the unemployed have plenty of new beaches to play on now that the sea levels have fallen back to normal.

There should be new jobs opening in DC to help clear the tumbleweeds that are blowing around the halls of the Treasury Dept.

For years the U. of Oregon, and UO Law School have been churing out thousands of good little liberals. They were broadcast into a society that was hard-working and entrepreneurial. The newcomers, including many Californians and East Coast red diaper babies blocked industry, especially anything having to do with national defense; they crushed the logging industry, and attacked the fishing industry. They hate the ranchers. They circumscribed the growth of Portland in the name of their Green God. Now what is left? No industry to speak of. The thousands of lawyers are scrambling for people to sue, and that well has jut about come up dry. It is surprising that unemployment is not higher. There are just so many Starbucks a state can stand.

I’m sure it’s Bush’s fault.

Couldn’t have happened to a finer group of liberal kooks. You reap what you sow.

Not to worry. The sheeple will blame “greedy” businesses who refuse to pay taxes (sacrifice their profits) to support the green, socialist ideal for their problems. If only we would all be selfless, we would live in a land of milk and honey. [/sarc]

We are being sold such a load of crap, it boggles the mind. Joseph Goebbels had nothing on the current crop of propagandists and their stodge's in the academic, scientific, and (yes) business communities. Green is good, “dirty” oil is bad. Taxes are good, “profit” is bad. Illegals are good—even patriotic; enforcement of immigration laws is “un-American”. And above all, take on debt to live beyond your means. I believe this is partially to stimulate the economy and partially to keep the sheeple off balance. We will reap the whirlwind, I fear—I only hope that most virtuous among us will emerge unscathed.

They quote CA at 10.1%, but we just got the Feb CA report and it’s 10.5%. We’re nippin’ at your heels, Huskies!

I wonder how many states will be above 10% (yeah I know that’s an arbitrary number) before it’s all done, or how many will break their modern-day records.

The CA record is 11% in 1982-1983. A guy in this article about the latest CA numbers thinks we’ll break 11% and stay there a while.

But fear not, Oregon is going to lead the green job revolution.

They just haven’t told the dolts that a green job is the pc term for an unemployed tree-planting volunteer.

“Oregon’s unemployment rate nears 11 percent”

When you have an anti-business climate, do not be surprised when your unemployment goes up. I offer my Countys’ 13 + percent unemployment as an example.

"Hope they are glad they voted for Obama’s change."

I live in Portland, I am part of the conservative minority on the western half of the state.. and myself.. Unemployed.

I can tell you.. there are people here when you talk about Obama in a negative way.. they bring up George Bush. If you bring up on stupid things the congress is doing.. They bring up George Bush. It never ends.

Obama is still the answer to the progressives in Western Oregon and Washington. But in the Eastern Half.. I hear allot of Pffftts when you mention Obama...
