Terror inmates may be released in US: intel chief

President Barack Obama's intelligence chief confirmed Thursday that some Guantanamo inmates may be released on US soil and receive assistance to return to society. "If we are to release them in the United States, we need some sort of assistance for them to start a new life," said National Intelligence Director Dennis Blair at his first press conference.

I had just arrived in Italy (for a cruise with my kids) the day of the election. Got up first thing in the morning on the 5th to get on their computer and check election results. I grabbed a copy of the Corrierre Della Sera and was floored. I don't speak or read Italian but I could make out enough to get the gist. The Italian press was in ecstacies. The first 13 pages of the newspaper was given over to the election, with the last two pages a time line of every administration since Washington himself, complete with background info and commentary. I wouldn't be surprised if they knew more of our presidential history than we do. I wonder what they think now.

What on earth? I cannot imagine even one American citizen being ok with having them released here. And the American people need to make their voices heard. Send them back to where they came from, we don’t want them here or any where close! They want to kill us and now we are just giving them direct and immediate access to us. This is a disaster waiting to happen, it appears there is more concern with the well being of those who hate us, then with those who are who are citizens of this country. What a slap in our face!

I’m going to try and get a form letter together to make it easier for us to make our complaints.

Replacing “War on Terror” with “Overseas Contingency Operation” will make it far harder for the U.S. government to mobilize the American people for a war against Islamist terrorists that may last several decades, sustain high levels of defence spending or to lead an international coalition of allies. It will also send a signal to America’s worst enemies that the United States doesn’t have the stomach for a long war. It is a self-defeating measure that will lower morale among the American public and sow the seeds of confusion.

Part of me feels it's the wrong approach to chide the American people for voting for "idiots" (the left did this over Bush the past 8 years).
