PETA Killed 95 Percent of Adoptable Pets in its Care During 2008

Hypocritical Animal Rights Group’s 2008 Disclosures Bring Pet Death Toll To 21,339

WASHINGTON DC – Today the nonprofit Center for Consumer Freedom (CCF) published documents online showing that People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) killed 95 percent of the adoptable pets in its care during 2008. Despite years of public outrage over its euthanasia program, the animal rights group kills an average of 5.8 pets every day at its Norfolk, VA headquarters.

According to public records from the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, PETA killed 2,124 pets last year and placed only seven in adoptive homes. Since 1998, a total of 21,339 dogs and cats have died at the hands of PETA workers.

Despite having a $32 million budget, PETA does not operate an adoption shelter. PETA employees make no discernible effort to find homes for the thousands of pets they kill every year. Last year, the Center for Consumer Freedom petitioned Virginia’s State Veterinarian to reclassify PETA as a slaughterhouse.

CCF Research Director David Martosko said: “PETA hasn’t slowed down its hypocritical killing machine one bit, but it keeps browbeating the rest of society with a phony ‘animal rights’ message. What about the rights of the thousands of dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens that die in PETA’s headquarters building?”

Martosko added: “Since killing pets is A-OK with PETA, why should anyone listen to their demands about eating meat, using lab rats for medical research, or taking children to the circus?”

CCF obtained PETA’s “Animal Record” filings since 1998 from the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. Members of the public can see these documents at PetaKillsAnimals.com.

In addition to exposing PETA’s hypocritical record of killing defenseless animals, the Center for Consumer Freedom has publicized the animal rights group’s ties to violent activists, and shed light on its aggressive message-marketing to children.

It’s all about the money.

Not the animals.

PETA is hardly unusual in this. The quickest way to raise cash in this world is to proclaim some acute point of view and holler “who’s with me?” Fools part with it as if it’s going to be spent doing anything for their cause, and it just lines someone’s pockets or buys them bigger toys.

Ingrid Newkirk’s PETA people make money getting govt contracts from the cities to run these shelters

then they kill the animals

some of these nuts think it is kinder to kill an animal than to “enslave it” to a new human owner

seriously

And HSUS, the so-called “Humane Society of the US” which has nothing to do with the fine local humane societies, is also in bed with PETA. They are all working toward a petless, meatless society.

So another hidden branch of our liberal government is exposed. Its not unlike the position TOTUS takes on post birth abortion, The inconvenient life only temporary. I’m sure he would willingly expand the definition to anyone who disagrees with his takeover.

This was already posted. I commented before knowing that they do not operate a shelter....it is was a facility where other shelters/people could bring the animals to be humanely euthanized instead of being gassed which is being used in Virginia. I wish they had adoptable shelters though....but they concentrate on animal cruelty I was told...not adoptions.

If this is all true, PETA has crossed from the laughably absurd category into the evil scum category.

My arms are sore today from brushing, clipping and shampooing one of our three beloved rescue dogs. I think he's part lab and part woolly mammoth. I would argue that I'm enslaved to him!

Many of us dog, cat, horse, and bird breeders are actively fighting bad legislation that is being put forth by Peta's best buddy the HSUS. They are trying to abolish ALL of our rights to OWN pets. At this point they are focusing their agenda with attacks on purebred dog breeders under the disguise of ridding the country of "puppy mills" but actually they will first be destroying the devoted, small scale, professional breeders and eventually the only place a family will be able to find a pet will be from the large commercial puppy producers OR shelter dogs (shipped in from Mexico and other 3rd world type countries).
Please do not donate any money to HSUS or the SPCA. Many local shelters are also run by liberal HSUS extremist types so at this point I would say save your money. If you donate to your local shelter you are very likely supporting the importation of dogs from other countries while also helping the HSUS to destroy purebreed dogs in America.
Now that's unAmerican!!

Typical liberals. Killing animals is bad when other people do it, but not when they do it. They will argue that they couldn’t afford to keep them alive, proving that money is more important to them than principal. They say they love animals, then kill them when they become inconvenient. Will Barack Obama’s leftist horde adopt the same practices?

They drive around looking for animals to steal from mainly poor people. They use strong arm tactics to take dogs they claim are being neglected. Now we know where these animals end up, in the PETA incinerator.

Like every other leftist group, it is about power and CONTROL. Animals simply happen to be this organizations FRONT.

Our local SPCA does about a Thousand percent better then PETA. But then the SPCA is about protecting animals, not pushing a far left liberal political cause.
