Schindler Family Attends Mass for Terri Schiavo Hosted by Ave Maria University

St. Petersburg, FL (LifeNews.com) -- The Schindler family attended a special Mass on Tuesday, which marked the fourth anniversary of the painful starvation and dehydration euthanasia death of Terri Schiavo. Ave Maria University, a Florida-based Catholic college, hosted the mass, which saw the entire Schindler family attend.

Bob and Mary Schindler, Terri's parents, joined their other children Bobby Schindler and Suzanne Vitadamo for a ceremony in Terri's honor.

As the Schindlers prayed with participants for other disabled people who face the same euthanasia concerns, they placed a picture of Terri on her wedding day on the altar and joined more than 400 people in remembering her life.

The Mass was part of the International Day of Prayer and Remembrance for Terri Schindler Schiavo that the Schindler family jointly co-sponsors with the Terri Schiavo foundation and Priests for Life.

The two organizations established this day last year to foster education, prayer, and activism regarding discrimination against the disabled.

"God is using Terri to impact the world in a very special way," Bobby Schindler told the News Press.

Thomas Monaghan, founder and chancellor of Ave Maria University, told the newspaper the college was happy to help with the ceremony.

“We're very big on pro-life,” he said. “Our purpose is to fight evil and pro-life is center stage, and that’s where we want to be.”

Fr. Frank Pavone, who was with Bobby and Suzanne at Terri’s bedside as she died, recalls that painful day and the support from pro-life advocates and others.

"As we consoled Terri and prayed with her, what I felt most strongly was the presence of countless people around the world who, by their love, prayers, and tears, accompanied Terri and her family through those difficult days," he said. "I am confident that these same individuals, families, and Churches will want to observe Terri’s Day."

President Obama's Health Care Plan Could Require Rationing, Warnings Begin

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- President Barack Obama and his Congressional allies haven't yet announced a universal health care plan, but warnings are already beginning that it will likely include health care rationing. That's a concern for the pro-life movement because it can lead to euthanasia and assisted suicide.

In a powerful column written in the Washington Post, noted author Charles Krauthammer notes "the math doesn't add up" on covering Americans without cutting back on medical care.

"His universal health-care proposal would increase costs by perhaps $1 trillion," Krauthammer says.

"The hard part is Medicare and Medicaid. In an aging population, how do you keep them from blowing up the budget? There is only one answer: rationing," he explains. Krauthammer points out that the stimulus package pours $1.1 billion into medical "comparative effectiveness research," which he calls the "perfect setup for rationing."

"Once you establish what is 'best practice' for expensive operations, medical tests and aggressive therapies, you've laid the premise for funding some and denying others," he says. . .

Archbishop Naumann: ND Leadership Either "Incredibly Naïve" ...

NOTRE DAME, Indiana, April 27, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Two more archbishops have expressed disapproval of the University of Notre Dame's invitation to President Obama to offer the commencement address and receive an honorary law degree May 17.

In his column in The Leaven, the Kansas City diocesan newspaper, Archbishop Joseph Naumann said he was "dismayed" to learn of the honor, saying he does "not fault the president for accepting this invitation, but the university for offering it."

"Notre Dame's action is inconsistent with its Catholic identity and harmful to the efforts of the church to advocate for the protection of innocent, preborn human life," wrote Naumann. The archbishop cited the 2004 directive by the U.S. Bishops Conference (USCCB) forbidding Catholic institutions from honoring pro-abortion politicians.

"Notre Dame's invitation to President Obama reveals that the leadership of the university is either incredibly naïve or just does not care about the impact of its actions on the church's efforts to protect the lives of innocent, vulnerable unborn children," he said. . .

Francis Cardinal George (Archbishop of Chicago and the current President of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops) has publicly compared abortion to slavery and has basically called Zero a liar.

Catholic Cardinal Meets With Obama: Says President Claims He's Not Pro-Abortion

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- The president of the national conference of Catholic bishops recently elaborated further on the meeting he had in March with President Barack Obama. Cardinal George told a recent gathering of Catholic priests that Obama says he is not pro-abortion and will eventually work to reduce abortions.

For most pro-life advocates, Obama's extensive pro-abortion record of executive orders and key political appointments proves otherwise.

According to a Catholic News Service report, Cardinal Francis George discussed the conversation he had with Obama at a March 18 meeting at the White House.

"I think on the life issue he's on the wrong side of history," the cardinal said, but he added that Obama wants to make pro-life advocates appear as if he is on their side.

"It's hard to disagree with him because he'll always tell you he agrees with you," he said, according to CNS. "Maybe that's political. I think he sincerely wants to agree with you. You have to say, again and again, 'No, Mr. President, we don't agree (on abortion).'"

The Catholic News Service indicates Cardinal George said he told Obama he is concerned with the president's decision to overturn the Mexico City Policy and opening the door to funding groups that promote and perform abortions in other nations.

"He said we weren't exporting abortion," the cardinal recounted. "I said, 'Yes we are.' He would say, 'I know I have to do certain things here. ... But be patient and you'll see the pattern will change.' I said, 'Mr. President, you've given us nothing but the wrong signals on this issue.' So, we'll see, but I'm not as hopeful now as I was when he was first elected."

"I think he has his political debts to pay, and so he's paying them," Cardinal George said of the impression he was left with after the Obama meeting.

Ultimately, the Catholic pro-life leader cast a pessimistic view of the situation under Obama and the long-term outlook.

"I think we're up against something a little bit like slavery," he said, adding that Obama and abortion advocates are unwilling to change the law to protect human life before birth.

"It's a society-dividing issue, and on this issue, we're with Abraham Lincoln and he's with Stephen Douglas, and he doesn't like to hear that, but that's where he is," George said, according to CNS.

"For 80 years we were a slave republic, and it took a terrible war to end that. And now for 40 years we're in an abortion regime, and I'm not sure how that's going to end," he added.

Supermodel Kathy Ireland Lashes Out Against 'Pro Choice'

Here is an excerpt of an interesting piece from FOXNEWS about how previously "pro-choice" supermodel Kathy Ireland went from believing in abortion to speaking out against about it:

Well, we’re all clumps of cells and the unborn does not look like a baby the same way the baby does not look like a teenager, a teenager does not look like a senior citizen. That unborn baby looks exactly the way human beings are supposed to look at that stage of development. It doesn’t suddenly become a human being at a certain point in time," Ireland argued. "I’ve also asked leading scientists across our country to please show me some shred of evidence that the unborn is not a human being. I didn’t want to be pro-life, but this is not a woman’s rights issue but a human rights issue."

Orange County, California Supervisors Restore $300K Planned Parenthood Grant

Santa Ana, CA (LifeNews.com) -- The Orange County Board of Supervisors in southern California has restored the $300,000 grant it initially revoked from the Planned Parenthood abortion business in March. The board initially voted to suspend the grant for family planning services because Planned Parenthood does abortions.

After hearing from county attorneys, supervisors restored the grant on Tuesday, but they also approved a policy that would make future grants to the abortion business more difficult to obtain.

Supervisor John Moorlach, who first proposed cutting the Planned Parenthood grant, and Supervisor Bill Campbell voted against restoring the funding.

Supervisors voted to create a new policy that, among other provisions, makes it so the family planning services can't be provided in the same location as abortions. That would require Planned Parenthood to establish a new facility that solely provided the contraception the grant funds.

The new policy also restricts funds to direct health services, rather than health education -- such as the propaganda Planned Parenthood will provide area teenagers with the $300,000. . .

Zero spent his first hundred days pushing abortion, now he is setting the stage to kill the rest.

Obama: Terminal Patients May Be Denied Some Treatment Under Health Plan

“I don’t know how much that hip replacement cost,” Mr. Obama said in the interview with David Leonhardt of The Times. “I would have paid out of pocket for that hip replacement, just because she’s my grandmother. Whether, sort of in the aggregate, society making those decisions to give my grandmother, or everybody else’s aging grandparents or parents, a hip replacement when they’re terminally ill is a sustainable model is a very difficult question.”

Said similar things about McCain in 2008. But when asked the question "when does human life begin?," and he unabashedly stated, "At conception, of course," I had to take notice. Then when he announced Sarah Palin as his running mate, I decided to support her. I voted for Sarah (and the white haired old geezer that came along with the package).

But Romney is a NO go. And I don't care who this socialist, abortionist, homosexualist, constitution trampling bastard picks for running mate. If Romney's in I'm out!

"ND Has Turned Its Back on the Catholic Community": 56 Bishops against ND Scandal

SOUTH BEND, Indiana, April 30, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Three more bishops have spoken out against the University of Notre Dame's decision to honor President Obama by asking him to deliver the commencement address and receive an honorary degree at the school's graduation ceremony May 17.

"In my first year as bishop no issue has generated more mail expressing dismay and sadness as the recent decision by the leadership of the University of Notre Dame to honor Pres. Barack Obama at this year's commencement," wrote Bishop James V. Johnston of the diocese of Springfield-Cape Girardeau, MO in his weekly column dated May 1.

"Regardless of whether it is deserved or not, Notre Dame holds a special place in the hearts of a vast number of Catholics who see it as a proud symbol of the Catholic Church's place in American life."

Considering President Obama's extreme pro-abortion agenda, said the bishop, "it is saddening and bewildering that Notre Dame would act in this manner."

"This honor will cause confusion and scandal among many."

Bishop Johnston expressed solidarity with Notre Dame's Bishop D'Arcy and his decision to boycott the ceremony, and said he joins those calling for Notre Dame to "reconsider this decision."

"Even at this late date, such a reversal would be a credit to Notre Dame's leadership, and would restore the near-universal goodwill that Notre Dame is now almost assured of losing," said the bishop. . .

Vermont Pro-Life Advocates Rally Against New Bill to Legalize Assisted Suicide

Montpelier, VT (LifeNews.com) -- Vermont pro-life advocates are gearing up once again for a battle against legislation that would add the state to the list of those that have legalized assisted suicide. Led by Vermont Right to Life, state residents will participate in a rally in the state capital tomorrow.

The pro-life organization tells LifeNews.com the Healthcare is a Human Right rally is an event to remind state lawmakers that abortion and physician-assisted suicide are not health care and should not be included in any state health care proposal.

Just prior to the scheduled rally, lawmakers introduced legislation to legalize assisted suicide in both the state House and Senate.

The measures, S. 144 and H. 455, are causing pro-life groups, medical organizations and disability rights groups to be concerned about the specter of a government-run system that relies on rationing of health care along with legalized assisted suicide.

“It is no accident that the push to legalize physician-assisted suicide is rearing its ugly head at the same time that pressure is being put on lawmakers to change the health care system and reduce health care costs,” Vermont Right to Life director Mary Hahn Beerworth told LifeNews.com.

Beerworth said states such as Oregon, the first to legalize assisted suicide, have seen abuses. There, a patient can be denied lifesaving health care but the state government will cover the cost of a lethal dose of a deadly drug. . .

Terri Schiavo was the topic on Hardball last night. I was channel surfing, heard something about a guy who lived with somebody else per Tom Delay and I kept it on. Yes, it was about Terri. CHRIS SHAYS, RINO, said saving Terri was big brother.

Well, how is it they can pardon convicts and that's okay????

Had JEB not been derelict in his duty, the faux action in DC would not have been necessary. It was staged to protect Jeb's big brother. GOP and dems wanted Terri to be the first public victim of the culture of death.
