Poplawski's friends at the scene described him as a young man who thought the Obama administration would ban guns.

One friend, Edward Perkovic, said Poplawski feared "the Obama gun ban that's on the way" and "didn't like our rights being infringed upon."

Another longtime friend, Aaron Vire, said he feared that President Obama was going to take away his rights, though he said he "wasn't violently against Obama."

Spanking a separate issue. One man’s spanking is another man’s beating.

A better way to phrase it is in terms of discipline and structure. Discipline takes many forms. It doesn’t have to be physical. In fact, it is much more valuable to discipline a person’s will and learn self control. A woman _could_ do it, but I do not think that is the norm as a father cannot provide all mothering needs either. Religions teach it, but it requires the participation of the individual to reap benefits.

It’s increasingly apparent that positive maternal and paternal influences are vital to the formation of healthy individuals.

I fear that as soon as the Resident gets back from his European vacation he is going to suspend the second amendment by executive order, and require all guns and ammo to be turned in to the feds. His excuse will be the nutcase slayings like this one and the made-up mexican gun imports thing.

The story is very confused.

Absolutely correct. Radio and TV station reporters can't write worth a chit.

A journalism degree don't mean nuthin anymore.

you are correct, my example was intended to show how the psychologists are so invested in moral relativism that they can’t even consider right and wrong.

Fathers and Mothers are serperate and both roles needed.

The government can never fit the role of mother or father or both.

If the media and government were honest and really wanted to address the problem, they’d have to admit gay parenting and in vitro by singles and lesbians is a bad idea.

They’ll blame guns.

quick tidbit...a nature show awile back had rhino slaughterings being committed by rouge juvenile male elephants [wow the symbolism is a pun unto itself !!!]...

seems that in herd management, the all knowing dipsh!ts had culled out a bunch of the patriarchal older males and left the kids without male role models...

once they transplanted a few old males back into the herd, they whipped the youngins asses and solved the problem...

The killer was a nut-job, but Obama will use this to take your guns.

“Poplawski had once tried to join the Marines, but was kicked out of boot camp after throwing a food tray at a drill sergeant, Perkovic said.

Another longtime friend, Aaron Vire, said Poplawski feared that President Barack Obama was going to take away his rights, though he said he “wasn’t violently against Obama.”

Vire, 23, said Poplawski once had an Internet talk show but that it wasn’t successful. He said Poplawski owned an AK-47 rifle and several powerful handguns, including a .357 Magnum.”

Three Pittsburgh police officers killed by gun-loving maniac; afraid Obama would limit gun rights

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

Heller/AP

A gunman shot three police officers in Pittsburgh, Pa. on Sat. Apr. 4, 2009. He was reportedly upset over fears President Obama will curtail gun rights.

PITTSBURGH - A gunman wearing a bulletproof vest and “lying in wait” opened fire on officers responding to a domestic disturbance call Saturday, killing three of them and turning a quiet Pittsburgh street into a battlefield, police said.

Police Chief Nate Harper said the motive for the shooting isn’t clear, but friends said the gunman recently had been upset about losing his job and feared the Obama administration was poised to ban guns.

Richard Poplawski, 23, met officers at the doorway and shot two of them in the head immediately, Harper said. An officer who tried to help the two also was killed.

Poplawski, armed with an assault rifle and two other guns, then held police at bay for four hours as the fallen officers were left bleeding nearby, their colleagues unable to reach them, according to police and witnesses. More than 100 rounds were fired by the elite police teams and Poplawski, Harper said.

The three slain officers were Eric Kelly, Stephen Mayhle and Paul Sciullo III. Kelly had been on the force for 14 years, Mayhle and Sciullo for two years each. Another officer was shot in the hand and a fifth broke his leg on a fence.

Poplawski had gunshot wounds in his legs but was otherwise unharmed because he was wearing a bulletproof vest, Harper said. He was charged with three counts of homicide, aggravated assault and a weapons violation.

The shooting occurred just two weeks after four police officers were fatally shot in Oakland, Calif., in the deadliest day for U.S. law enforcement since the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. The officers were the first Pittsburgh city officers to die in the line of duty in 18 years.

“This is a solemn day and it’s a very sad day in the city of Pittsburgh,” Harper said. “We’ve seen this kind of violence happen in California. We never would think this kind of violence would happen in the city of Pittsburgh.”

At 7 a.m. EDT (1100 GMT), Sciullo and Mayhle responded to an emergency call from Poplawski’s mother, who remained holed up in the basement during the entire dispute and escaped unharmed, Harper said.

When they arrived at the home, Sciullo was immediately shot in the head. Mayhle, who was right behind him, was also shot in the head.

“It appears he was lying in wait for the officers,” Harper said.

Kelly, who was on his way home after completing his overnight shift when he heard the call for help, rushed to the scene and was killed trying to help Sciullo and Mayhle, Harper said. Elite police teams and other officers arrived and were immediately fired on as well.

Don Sand, who lives across the street from Poplawski, said he was woken up by the sound of gunfire. Hunkering down behind a wall in his home, he saw the first two officers go down and then saw Kelly get shot.

“They couldn’t get the scene secure enough to get to them. They were just lying there bleeding,” Sand said. “By the time they secured the scene enough to get to them it was way too late.”

Poplawski feared “the Obama gun ban that’s on the way” and “didn’t like our rights being infringed upon,” said Edward Perkovic, his best friend.

Perkovic, 22, said he got a call at work from him in which he said, “Eddie, I am going to die today. ... Tell your family I love them and I love you.”

Perkovic said: “I heard gunshots and he hung up. ... He sounded like he was in pain, like he got shot.”

Poplawski had once tried to join the Marines, but was kicked out of boot camp after throwing a food tray at a drill sergeant, Perkovic said.

Another longtime friend, Aaron Vire, said Poplawski feared that President Barack Obama was going to take away his rights, though he said he “wasn’t violently against Obama.”

Vire, 23, said Poplawski once had an Internet talk show but that it wasn’t successful. He said Poplawski owned an AK-47 rifle and several powerful handguns, including a .357 Magnum.

Obama has said he respects Americans’ constitutional right to bear arms, but that he favors “common sense” gun laws. Gun rights advocates interpret that as meaning he would approve of curbs on ownership of assault and concealed weapons.

Poplawski had been laid off from his job at a glass factory earlier this year, said another friend, Joe DiMarco. DiMarco said he didn’t know the name of the company, but knew his friend had been upset about it.

The last Pittsburgh police officers killed in the line of duty were Officers Thomas L. Herron and Joseph J. Grill, according to a Web site that tracks police killings. They died after their patrol car collided with another vehicle while chasing a stolen car on March 6, 1991.

In 1995, an off-duty officer was shot with his own gun after he confronted a group of teenagers about graffiti. Tests later showed the officer had been drinking.

According to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, 133 law enforcement officers died in the line of duty in 2008, a 27 percent decrease from year before and the lowest annual total since 1960.

Poplawski had often fought with neighbors and had even gotten into fist fights with a couple, Sand said.

“This is a relatively really quiet neighborhood except for him,” Sand said. “He was just one of those kids that we knew to stay clear from.”

Harper confirmed police had responded to calls from the Poplawski house several times but said the incidents were still being investigated.

Rob Gift, 45, who lives a block away, said the well-kept single-family houses with manicured lawns are home to many police officers, firefighters, paramedics and other city workers.

“It’s just a very quiet neighborhood,” Gift said.

“Obama will make a speech blaming Right-wing talk radio.

Rush, brace for backlash.

This could very well get the fairness doctrine passed.”

Read these posts by bloggers at the NY Daily News.

Rush, and all conservatives are blamed for this actions of the nut-job murderer.

BTW. The blog needs big time posts to rebut these at:

http://www.nydailynews.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=55397&start=0&tstart=0

Cut & pasted:

The right winged talk media is partly responsible for these innocent killings. What in gods green earth does Obama have to do with this. Absolutely nothing but the radio anti Obama nitwits are constantly pouring gasoline on the fire.

Did anyone ever teach this idiot that the President does not have that kind of power.

hjo4: “These irresponsible talk show host that plant the seeds and lie about President Obama taking away our rights should be held accountable, it’s unfortunate they can’t be.” So, you want to respond to right-wingers lying about Obama taking our rights away by... taking their first amendment rights away? Are you crazy, or just an idiot?

Situations like these are a calling for GUN CONTROL!!! Gun control doesn’t mean banning guns — for the right wing nutjobs who believe that. I believe in the 2nd amendment and my father owned a gun but we were terrified to even be near it. Gun control is absolutely necessary. I don’t want another crazy loon walking into K-Mart to purchase a gun & then going on a killing spree.

Oh, boy... them thar yokels & rednecks are now gonna start making up wild stories to make this nose-picking goofy doophus out to be some kind of urban hero. Anyone notice how many of those cops in the photo are overweight? Jeeeeeeeze!

What a perfect example of the lunacy that is involved with people and their ‘Obama’s making the sky fall’ mentality. We heard the Fox News reports all during the campaign, and since it concluded, that Obama will want to ban guns. Yet the guy has never even MENTIONED it. Of course, this is from the same network that reports on the ‘terrorist fist jabs’ between Obama and his wife. Good reporting!

instead of hoarding guns to start ‘a revolution’ against the liberals, these far right gun kooks will just randomly pick innocent people off. Good luck with your revolution, babies. Many thank to the WingNutDaily and other lunatic web sites that are feeding this lunacy.

FabienneD - as a relative of one of the fallen officers in Pittsburgh, I disagree. Just as there is the right to arm there also freedom of the press/speech. Suppression of rights adds to the problem instead of making it better. When views are expressed in a way that encourage dialogue and decision, America is better off. In this case, if the gunman had listened to or read about Mr. Obama’s position, he would have realized his concern was unfounded. I suspect that, instead, he listened to extreme radio shows that promoted fear and intolerance. Not only is his life damaged — so are many other innocent people connected to the fallen officers.

Coulter, Hannity, Beck, O’Reilly, Limbaugh must be proud of their violent deadly spawns’ deeds filling the headlines in tandem with the right wingers’ body counts week-after-week since January. Champagne corks are most definitely popping at Beck’s FOX studio tonight. He’s been the loudest weeper along with crazed legislator Bachman of Buchenwald instilling a choreographed “kill or be killed” to their goose stepping mouth breathers denegrating our nation day-by-day. AOL has headlines on the home page that state this shooter “feared Obama”. Let’s count the ways those fears were imprinted into his psyche by the right wing pouting they can’t rape and pillage our national treasury and dignity from within anymore. Not hard to notice that all these mass murders these many weeks have been confessed by the killers to have been motivated by the well-known celebrity voices noted above drilling into toxic psyches of their consumers. . . and the very people who use their weapons in eve

The shooter and his internet presence has his ranting and quoting Glenn Beck, Limbaugh, et al . . he’s following orders of his right winger’s talking points to “fear Obama” as the shooter has posted around the net. Mission Accomplished! your ilk’s propaganda killed and killed and killed since January and today you got extra points for the deaths of officers ... we the people know how you party rolls.

Drader: You are going to give this board a bad name with your level of intelligence and insight. If Mr. President brought up gun control (which isn’t about legal, sensible, legitimate gun ownership and never has been) during the campaign trail, it might have been once -— at 3 a.m. It hasn’t even remotely been an issue since he took office, so I’m equally puzzled over where “the bad man is going to take away my guns and ammo” junk is coming from. Rush, Beck and the rest of their ilk are so obtuse and clueless, it ceased being fun to parody them in, oh, 1966. The lunatic fringe on the Republikkklan side (the “base” audience?) continues to be the best friend of the Demos. I guarantee you Barack calls Biden daily and says, “Yo, Joe, turn on the TV and see what those dopes have done today.” Sadly, given the pile of feces Obama inherited from the previous, ahem, administration, gun issues might be the 144th priority on his plate. Of course, the gang at Fox “News” will find a way to bl

Another prime example of why there needs to be some form of gun control. Most of the real crazies seem to legally own one. Perhaps a mental examination should be mandatory when issuing a license to own. I bet this loser would never have gotten a license if his mental state had been evaluated. Guns don’t kill people. People kill people.

Score another one for the right wing. That guy that killed all the “liberals” in the church last year was afraid of liberals, they were going to take his rights away, just like this nut. I truly believe that comedians like bill oreilly, limpballs and savage only appeal to a certain mentality, IQ in the double digits type people.

"Apparently this is the guy"

I'm not sure where you got your information, but the blogger you linked to (RWhiteman) had his home listed as Greensburg in Westmoreland County. However, this shooting took place in a Pittsburgh neighborhood which is in Allegheny County. Unless the guy had two homes, I don't see how this is the same person.

This is the guy, and his buddy Perkovic, who really seems to be enjoying the publicity.  Real losers.

From Fox News:

"Poplawski had once tried to join the Marines, but was kicked out of boot camp after throwing a food tray at a drill sergeant, Perkovic said."

That was after he was expelled from Catholic high school. More info here.
