Posted on 04/04/2009 11:26:46 PM PDT by gandalftb

"This is the very first English Jihadi Magazine aimed at the laymen, students of knowledge, political activists, intellectuals and scholars of the Ummah. It will seek to educate the Ummah on a monthly basis as to the latest happenings in fields related to Politics, Society, Economy, Technology etc. as well as educate the Muslims on the worldview of the Jihadi current. This magazine will serve as a platform for the English speaking Muslim Community to discuss their ideas, differences and thoughts on various issues related to the Islamic world and the hot issues which many stay silent on."

Quoted in Fox News.com Story on Jihad Recollections
Eric Shawn over at Fox News.com just released a great story on al-Fursan’s Jihad Recollections.

Check it out……….HERE

Here’s my money quote in the story:

“What started off as some angry kids in their basement has transformed over the past several years into a robust Al Qaeda propaganda outlet right here in our backyard,” says Jarret Brachman, an Al Qaeda specialist and author of the new book, “Global Jihadism.”

Brachman says “it raises the bar for pro-Al Qaeda propaganda in English. Its presentation is flashier than any English language Al Qaeda propaganda that we’ve seen to date.” He also says “the publication shows how deeply embedded in the global Al Qaeda movement its editors are.”

“Glossy Internet Magazine Targets Americans for Jihad Training”
Friday, May 01, 2009
By Eric Shawn

SNIPPET: “It’s been likened to Al Qaeda’s “Vanity Fair,” a new English-language Internet magazine called “Jihad Recollections” that focuses on the terrorist group, its founder, Usama Bin Laden, and how to commit jihad. It also predicts the demise of the United States.

“This is designed for Americans,” says noted terrorism expert Steven Emerson, founder of the Investigative Project on Terrorism in Washington, D.C., and author of the book “American Jihad: The Terrorists Living Among Us.”

“It’s not for Brits, not for Germans, not for jihadists in the Middle East. It’s designed for Americans and it’s designed to get them to convert to Islam or to carry out jihad acts of terror,” he said.”

“Fox Discovers Samir Khan’s Magazine”

SNIPPET: “We started getting a number of hits earlier today from people searching for Samir Khan’s magazine “Jihad Recollections”. Odd given that the magazine was published in early April. But I guess Sammy is always good for a few hits as a surprising number of Americans are shocked each and every time a jihadist living amongst us is exposed — even if it’s the same jihadi over and over again.

The hits can be explained by this Fox article which has some good analysis of the magazine from Steve Emerson and Jarret Brachman. It also has this odd comment:

It is not clear what connection, if any, the magazine has to Al Qaeda or its followers. It is published by the “Al Fursan Media Foundation,” but FOX News could not find such an organization or a way to contact them for comment.
Hey Fox, call me. I have contact info if you want it.

And, yes, al Fursan is a real organization. However, it is a virtual organization.”

« Guess Who?

Ignored Puzzle Pieces Takes Next Step…

This morning, American jihadist website, Ignored Puzzle Pieces of Knowledge, posted an old video of a guy who armored a bulldozer and went wreaking havoc in a small town. He destroyed buildings, cars and basically anything in his way.

Here’s how the admin (presumably Sammy) captioned this video:

“This guy caused over $7 million in damage in a small town. Imagine if he were to do something like this in NYC?”

Now, work with me here. We’ve got an American-made website that is dedicated to praising al-Qaida and espousing its ideology now posting: “imagine if he were to do something like this in NYC…”

That’s not just some rhetorical afterthought - it’s AGENDA-SETTING. It’s a direct call for someone to consider applying this lesson themselves. It’s an appeal for someone to commit an act of terrorism in New York City masked in an off-hand observation.

See, the boyz over at Ignored/Al-Fursan have kicked the radical can a few more steps down the road lately - they’re no longer content being couch-jihtatoes (new one). They want action. They’re feeling their oats now with the success of Jihad Recollections. Extremism is like a drug - it takes incresaingly more of it to feel the effects each time.

They realize that they have developed a small following of like-minded individuals who look to them for advice and counsel - American jihadists are sloppy, lazy and disconnected so they need handholding. This website offers that outstretched hand - it is precisely what Abu Musab al-Suri called for (and we know that Sammy knows al-Suri).

This is not good news for America - But I’ll keep ringing the bell about how nefarious these guys are along with Dr. Rusty at Jawa and others…

Oh, and here’s the video that they’re using as a terrorism case-study.

“Yes, We Are Terrorists. Allah Loves Terrorists.”

SNIPPET: “Laura Mansfield noticed this up at jihadist forums this weekend. Hope she doesn’t mind me putting it up. I’d link to her but she doesn’t have a post about it.

The person at the forum is quoting Al Qaeda ideologue Abu Mus’ab al Suri, author of Call to Global Islamic Resistance. Al-Suri claims that terrorism is not only tolerated in Islam, but that Islam demands terrorism:”

“Meanwhile, in Charlotte......”

SNIPPET: “Just in case you didn’t already know where Samir Khan stood on the “should American soldiers be killed for wanting to share Christianity?” question:

And this now gives the Mujahideen a higher spirit and greater reason to fight and massacre as many US Soldiers as possible. In addition, it will attract more Muslims to the Jihadi Cause to fight this Crusader Army who came to our lands to fight for their false religion. [emphasis mine]

Now, Samir will argue that he’s not advocating the killing of American soldiers, but, come on. Notice that he uses “our” when talking about the lands in which jihadis fight U.S. soldiers?

I wonder if tough guy Sam thinks of himself as a jihadi?

Why are we jihadi’s [sic] quiet about the CIA torture memos that have been dominating the news in the United States? [emphasis mine]

I guess so.

But as bad as Samir is in inciting Muslims to kill his fellow Americans, his readers are worse:

-— May Allah destroy them through the hands of the Jundullah in Afghanistan. Ameen!
-— May Allah destroy them through the hands of the Jundullah in Afghanistan. Ameen!

Ya Rabb Ameen!!!!!

-—If ye find not a sharpening block,
Sharpen ye then ye sword upon the neck of the infidel…

Takbir!

Can someone tell me why this doesn’t rise to the level of incitement to violence?

Come on Samir, if you’re really such a “tough guy” (pun intended, Sammy knows what I’m talking about) then can you answer one single question: do you support al Qaeda and/or the Taliban?”

“Shabaab’s al Qaeda and GIMF Connections”

SNIPPET: “NEFA’s “Shabaab al-Mujahideen: Migration and Jihad in the Horn of Africa” [PDF] is destined to be an invaluable resource in the hands of counter-terror analysts. If you don’t have a copy and you are a serious researcher then you need to get it.

I would especially point out the chapters outlining the connections of Sheikh Hassan Dahir Aweys, Osama bin Laden, and the Black Hawk Down incident which al Qaeda claims responsibility (although the point remains controversial just to how deep their involvement was). As we’ve pointed out in recent weeks, Aweys — designated a foreign terrorist by the U.S. State Department — is now a leading figure in the State Department backed government. Troubling, no?

Also, the chapter showing the al-Shabaab propaganda strategy is informative. As it happens, the report quotes Samir Khan’s (quoted as “inshallahshaheed”) reaction to the loss of several Shabaab websites. You’re welcome.

The report further notes that Shabaab has designated the European based Global Islamc Media Front (GIMF) as their official media outlet. GIMF today is to Shabaab what al-Furqan was to the Islamic State of Iraq or what as-Sahab is to al Qaeda in Asia.

Samir Khan. GIMF. Why do those two things seem to have a common thread in my mind? Oh, yeah.”

“Feel the Love”

SNIPPET: “The Pest excitedly posted this earlier today. It’s a GIMF translation of an article/whatever by that most prolific of online jihadi “sheikhs,” Atiatallah. According to the ansarnet.info forum post, it’s a translation of an Arabic post/article from November 2008. The “sheikh” supposedly died a few years ago in Iraq, but that apparently hasn’t stopped him from posting to jihadi forums.

The following text comes from the first page of the translation, and crystalizes the global Salafist-Jihadist image (caricature, actually) of their mortal enemy, ie. the United States:”

POLITICA
“Gli Stati Uniti sono arrivati alla fine!”
Lunedí 11.05.2009 08:36

SNIPPET: “Un cattivo scherzo? No, si tratta della nuova rivista di Al Qaeda che ha già messo il panico addosso a milioni di statunitensi. Il noto esperto di terrorismo, Steve Emerson, autore del libro “The terrorist living among us” (I terroristi che vivono tra di noi) ha affermato che la rivista è proposta non per gli inglesi, non per i tedeschi ma esclusivamente per gli statunitensi. Lo scopo? Convertire gli americani all’islamismo.

“Sammy and Joey Release Jihad Recollections #2”

SNIPPET: “Update: More analysis from Laura Mansfield who points out this quote from a section on how the al-Qaeda supporter should treat new recruits AKA reverts.

Now, I know the disbelieving media outlets will look at this list and make up some childish statement such as, ‘Jihadists devise strategic list to make converts into terrorists’. My advice to them is: if you have a problem with Jihad, then you have a problem with our religion. Jihad is not just a strategic means to a greater political goal for us, but it is also an act of worship which Allah loves and sanctions.

Call us terrorists or fanatics; we don’t care because this is our religion and we are proud to be on the side of the virtuous”

The Ignored Puzzle Pieces of Knowledge, the pro-Taliban terrorist blog that brought you such helpful posts on issues such as how to build a nicer jihadi blog, has been offline since early Tuesday (19 May 09). It doesn’t seem to be available via archive.org, either.

It appears, though that the other parts of the thabaat.net Group – a main home page, an online English-language forum posting all kinds of jihadi pronouncements and comment, and a parallel forum in Dutch – are still working.

A quick WHOIS search indicates the domain is registered in Belgium, but hosted in Russia.

“CT Investigative Insights from “Savvy Irhabi””

SNIPPET: “Traditionally, we think of the’ jihadi ego’ as being bad for us. Its the brazen arrogance of Khalid Sheikh Mohammad, for instance, that led him to think of ramming commercial jets into our buildings. It’s the unbridled cockiness of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi that helped him believe that his ragtag band of thugs could seize control of a country. These men may or may not accomplish their extravagant objectives, but they sure raise hell in the process of living out their Hitlerian fantasies of grandeur.

In the case of Jihadi Recollections 2, however, the ‘jihadi ego’ is actually quite helpful. I tend to view this kind of writing, particularly from Western jihadis, in two ways. First, I take it at face-value. These guys are really trying to “instill” an “intellectual culture” among the jihadi community. And it’s the best initiative that I’ve seen in English to date. They know the right guys to discuss, they get how to leverage us against ourselves. There is no doubt that they’ve been keenly studying As-Sahab over the past four years and are now feeling their jihadi legs, so to speak.

Second, I see mags like Jihadi Recollections 2 as an existentially cathartic activity - one that helps them justify themselves and one another. Western jihadis tend to have a compulsive need to document their trans-epistemological journey and prove to some abstract ‘other’ that they are authentic ‘Muslims.’ (It’s probably because they know on some Freudian subconcious level just how deviant they are being). It’s a fascinating process to observe however, (Daniel Maldanado’s blog, Adam Gadahn’s biographical letter about his conversion, the Toronto boyz’s online poetry, Badr al-Harbi/Nasr al-Dawsari’s thousands of online postings, etc..) The problem for them, however, is that this need to incessantly profess their brilliance is inherently subversive to their goals, that is if we simply listened and used it against them.

I’ll demonstrate with an article published in JR2 by “Savvy Irhabi” (irhabi meaning terrorist) - Savvy Irhabi writes an article on global media jihad that tries to distill the various ‘lessons learned’ and ‘protocols’ floating around the jihadist web world about ‘the jihadi media enterprise.’ In the process of strutting his jihadi stuff for all his friends to see, Savvy sheds some important light on how al-Qaida supporters in the West interact with al-Qaida media. In my thinking, these are great investigative insights for law enforcement on what to look for in their CT cases.”

A few days later than originally promised, here is the first in a very brief series of analytical notes on select articles in the recently released second issue of the glossy English-language cyber journal Jihad Recollections. The journal is produced by a staff of U.S.-based, self-styled armchair jihadis (though they’re more like cheerleaders), whose self-promotion has more than a few hints of self-importance and delusions of grandeur. All joking aside, I do not mean to downplay the potential motivational influence that this, and other cyber journals, may have on mobilizing armchair “warriors” to become actual militants. However, having said this, the Jihad Recollections staff missed very simple copy editing mistakes, such as using “jihadi’s” (singular possessive) when they meant to use the non-possessive plural, “jihadis.” Since they seem to have the graphics and design under control (though JR will not be winning any design prizes any time soon), the mysterious “editors” may want to invest some resources in improving the copy editing.”

Spy Factory: The NSA May 24, 2009

Posted by admin in : United States of Losers, Videos , trackback

It’s amazing how Allah gave so much power to the NSA, but didn’t give them enough power to tackle some of the al-Qaa’idah fighters that were in their own backyard, planning the invasion that would change the world forever.

“The Jihadist’s guide to the galaxy”

SNIPPET: “As online indoctrination spreads to the relatively untapped American market, we take closer look at the darker alleys of the Internet”

Niv Lillian, Nir Boms
Published: 05.25.09, 19:24 / Israel News

SNIPPET: “I see 16, 17-year-olds who have been indoctrinated on the Internet turn up on the battlefield,” says US Army Brigadier-General John Custer. And as head of intelligence for the US Central Command, he should know. “We capture them; we kill them every day in Iraq, in Afghanistan.”

But while the use of the Internet as a recruiting tool is old news in the Middle East, experts are now warning that jihadist websites aimed at young Americans have made the jump from amateurish to dangerously sophisticated.

As with any new product in an oversaturated market, the polished online publication aimed to tap into an overlooked niche. And from the worried reviews of terrorism experts, ‘Jihad Recollections’ may well have succeeded in doing just that.”

“Guess Who’s Back, Back Again, Sami’s Back, With Some Friends”

SNIPPET: “1. Samir Khan is back with his “Ignored Puzzle Pieces of Knowledge” website

2. His fly-by-night jihadist media operation, Al-Fursan Media, just released ‘Jihad Recollections’ – Issue 3

I urge our national-level leaders to think very hard about this magazine. It has become more than a free-speech issue – it is a national-security issue. This is the most advanced English-language jihadist publication currently in production. The authors know the movement as well or better than any government counterterrorism analyst. They are using this magazine not just to share thoughts but to actively steer and guide English-speaking Jihobbyists who do not have the kinds of local resources or teachers down the right path. This journal is designed to fulfill Abu Musab al-Suri’s call for global resistance through individual terrorism that is grounded in self-styled education made possible by educational materials. In other words, these magazine are a curricula for would-be Jihadis – it’s a course of instruction for Jihobbyists.

What I’ve found is that they are highly nuanced about the Al-Qaida personalities, internal discussions, emerging trends, ideological points of vulnerability, core doctrines, needs of the movement, etc.. That means that they are getting more bang for their proverbial buck with every al-Qaida release that comes out. A few years ago, the English-language jihobbyist movement was sloppy – unable to discriminate about the high-brow stuff versus the snuff. Now, thanks to publications like this, the English-language jihobby movement is directly tracking with (albeit a few weeks behind) the Arabic jihadi world.

Here’s my conclusion: the USG can not allow this kind of growth in jihadi sophistication to continue unabated in the United States. This is incitement of terrorism, no matter how many exculpatory qualifications they load up in their websites. It is a call to Americans, Canadians, Brits, Aussies and others not just to be smarter about al-Qaida, but to find new ways to BE AL-QAIDA.”

Is a Member of the “Revolution Muslim” Salafi Web Site a Contributor to Jihad Recollections? (Exclusive)

SNIPPET: “The fact that a member of the Revolution Muslim web site team, which says that it does not advocate violence, has seemingly contributed to Jihad Recollections, arguably the most comprehensive and impressive English-language jihadi cyber journal being published and one that praises al-Qa’ida “Central” and other transnational Salafi jihadi outfits, is noteworthy and deserving of further attention and study.”
