Obviously the development of missile defense technology gives us an unfair advantage over the turd world pest holes that will soon have nuclear weapons and the means to deliver them to our populated areas.
Chemical lasers are not the way to go anyway. They are extremely bulky, difficult to service and they quickly run out of the chemicals that are needed to fire the laser at which point the aircraft must land and then SLOWLY re-energize the chemical tanks.
OTOH, Israel has been developing solid state lasers and were well past the 10kW range a couple of years ago. They had been tested to shoot down MULTIPLE missiles, mortars and artillery shells at a decent range.
THAT is the direction we should be going and not wasting more money on chemical lasers.
