Obama's thank you to Latinos: Officials plans to give 12m illegal immigrants U.S. passport
Daily Mail (U.K.) ^ | April 10, 2009 | David Gardner

Posted on 04/09/2009 11:55:16 PM PDT by Schnucki

Barack Obama is to push forward with a plan to offer citizenship to up to 12million immigrants living illegally in the United States.

Furious Republican opponents said the proposal was 'disastrous' at a time when so many Americans are losing their jobs.

They claimed it was 'payback' for Mr Obama's Hispanic support in November's presidential election and a means of guaranteeing votes in 2010.

The number of Latino voters in the U.S. nearly doubled from 5.9million in 2000 to more than 10million last year.

More than three-quarters of new immigrants voted for Mr Obama.

Latinos are by far the majority of illegal immigrants in the US, with most crossing the border from Mexico.

The president's aides said yesterday that he plans to pursue his campaign pledge to reform immigration legislation by the end of his first year in office.

The administration wants to crack down on future illegal immigration, but allow those already in the U.S. to apply for citizenship - after paying a fine.

'They broke the law and we can't excuse that - but we can't deport 12million people,' Mr Obama said during the final days of his successful presidential campaign last year.

The White House insist the amnesty would not be an added burden on the U.S. workforce, but would simply recognise those illegal immigrants already working in the country.

However, Dan Stein, president of the Federation for American Immigration Reform, said that it would be 'politically disastrous' for Mr Obama to go ahead with his amnesty plan.

Roy Beck, executive director of NumbersUSA, a group that favours reduced immigration, said Mr Obama faces an ‘explosion’ if he presses forward with his plan this year.

‘It just doesn’t seem rational that any political leader would say, let’s give millions of foreign workers permanent access to US jobs

As a Latino, 0 can shove it. This is a slap in the face of all those law-abiding immigrants that went through the process of legitimately gaining citizenship in this great country. How is it that crime pays? It makes sense, (elected) rats love to embrace criminals, as they themselves are all criminals. But this is insane.

Why should those who do not follow the rules be rewarded? I am sick and disgusted with all these communist latino “leaders” insisting on the immigration reform. Sick of it. These bastards do not represent me, or any patriotic hispanic-american. Any and all politicians who back this should start packing their crap, because this type of treason must get them thrown out of office.

No one has ever said we should try to deport them all, Mr. Bowdown.

Do that and illegal aliens will deport themselves. They pay upwards of $5,000 to get in so they can certainly afford a bus ticket home after working here.

Almost exactly 2 years ago today on April 7, 2006 I published the following vanity for which I was excoriated on these threads. Through brain lock I misstated the two dates which occur in the first paragraph. The vanity post remains as it was except that the dates have been corrected. Somehow, two years later, I do not think there will be much backlash to what I wrote:

It’s Bush's Fault

This time it really is Bush's fault and it's not funny anymore.

The Republican Party is peering into the abyss and it's Bush's fault. The party will be lucky to salvage control of one house out of the wreckage of November's election. The damage will not be contained in 2006 and a Democrat victory is virtually assured for the White House in 2008. To the degree that one can see over the political horizon, the Republicans will be out of power for at least one generation and perhaps two as the decisive Hispanic vote swings against us.

The Anglo-Saxon tradition for respect, indeed for veneration, of the rule of law is being perverted on the streets of America into a cynicism which has the potential to undermine the last best hope of democracy in the world. As surely as Rome fell from internal rot, America faces the utter disintegration of its institutions. Corruption, the handmaiden of cynicism, will surely seep across the land with this inflow of illegal immigrants as our politicians, led by our president, cravenly abandon our sovereignty.

And all this is George Bush's fault.

In January 2001, George Bush took an oath which required him to faithfully enforce the laws. No fair observer can conclude that he has even halfheartedly attempted faithfully to enforce our immigration laws and to see that our borders are secure. After five years of malignant neglect the situation has grown out of control and we are confronted with the specter of the illegal aliens in their hundreds of thousands brazenly insulting the flag on the streets of America. It was utterly within Bush's power during his tenure in office to have prevented all of this simply by enforcing existing laws, but he would not. Vigorous action along the southern frontier would have radically diminished the inflow of illegal aliens. Vigorous enforcement against employers who knowingly hired illegal aliens would have changed the culture to the point where the reward for crossing the border would have been greatly diminished. Instead of a vicious circle of tens of millions of immigrants flooding every nook and cranny in the land, a virtuous circle draining away illegal immigrants would have been created. But Bush would not.

We did not need, and we do not need now, new laws to choke off this noxious inflow. We need the political will to enforce existing law and save our democracy.

Bush has not the will.

Decency requires that you pass along a heads up to someone whose name you use.

It is relevant because it demonstrates several things:

1) the problem was foreseeable.

2) the consequences of the problem were foreseeable.

3) the pusillanimity of the Republican Party and its elected representatives was obvious.

4) it argues that the remedy need not be new laws and enforcement and certainly not amnesty.

5) it points out the collateral damage from unrestrained illegal immigration includes the denigration of the rule of law and corruption.

6) it dramatizes the disastrous consequences of indifference to threats to party and country.

Obama's plan may ruin the country.

But he'll control the ruins.

The power he has right now is vast, but fleeting. By forcing through leviathan spending programs he can't hope to pay for, Obama risks a serious backlash.

This problem can be largely mitigated by bringing on more voters. In most cases, voters have to be bought. Obama has done that, splendidly. Nothing keeps voters loyal in the short run like bread and circuses.

For his second act, he's not only going show voters can be purchased, he's going to create them out of thin air. While gratitude for this act will exist, the sad fact of the matter is that illegal aliens who gain citizenship will become Democrats because ... that's where the free money is.

Such a course of action should keep Obama in office for the next 8 years, handily.

Beyond that? Systems like this aren't designed to stop. They'll keep buying votes until they've burned themselves to the ground. We all know what the problem is. What else can we do, but get out some marshmallows, sit by the fire, watch our nation go up in smoke, and wait for the collapse?

12 million new communist voters will effectively cement rats into power for the next two or three generations. America will be unrecognizable after that.

The only solution I see is for conservatives to migrate into conservative states, build up an army of five million men and secede. We would need to confiscate all military assets in those states, including an effective nuclear deterrent against the Communist States of America.

I see no alternative.

Once this Frankenstein is created its appetite is insatiable.

I don't know that it's a Frankenstein. Historically speaking, this is no anomaly.

It's more like a cocoon. Because we're so close to it, it's hard to remember that America is a democratic creature, like all others that came before us. Such beasts can survive in the wild, for a time, but they invariably meet the same fate. It seems that this very fate is now upon us.

It arrives without fanfare. The right chemicals combine, and, almost out of instinct, the American DNA switches from independent hunter/gatherer to social minded metamorphosis. While some parts of the creature resent the loss of it's freedom, the more it builds it's final nest, the harder it is to stop. "Why brave the chaotic, unforgiving jungle when I can live in this nice, safe net of social services and central control?"

The cocoon is already being spun. I wonder what will emerge.
