The seal is broken on seceding from the Union and is now mainstream discussion.

What is the root of the secessionist movement? The driving force at the grass roots level is of course money. Many Americans are rightly disturbed by the transfer of their wealth, and the wealth of their children, to companies that made risky investments, or were poorly managed. This is new territory for the government. The transfer started under George W. Bush with his bank bailout and auto makers bailouts, and the Obama administration has really poured on the spending with additional bailouts and stimulus packages. Citizens of more fiscally conservative states are finding that there money is being redirected from their pockets, and sent to other states.

In years past politicians from both parties have used the guilt factor to increase spending for the "needy". This tempers the backlash from the populace as they realize they are to sacrifice a new boat, or nicer home, for the greater good of society. Today, citizens are being asked to sacrifice their children's education, vacations, and even the home they are in, so that money can be transferred from their wallets to multi-billion dollar corporations.

When we add more government controls and regulations on everything from cigarettes, to fast food and guns, we begin to see the problem. Government is now coming at everyone at some level, over some issue. This piling on is causing those fringe secessionist movements to became mainstream very quickly.

It's no stretch to conclude that by implication Congressional approval is needed to leave as well.

It is to me and millions of others. I believe in the WRITTEN Constitution, not a living one. Nowhere is the federal government granted the power to prohibit secession.

Secession is treason.

Are you smoking dope? Treason is defined as 'levying War against them [the United States], or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort'. Secession is withdrawing from the compact.

Secession needs to be brought forward and discussed openly. The current “marriage” is failing in a big way. It need not turn into a full-fledged secession. It could be resolved by a significant return to genuine federalism and dramatically enhanced states’ rights.

Nolu Chan hasn't been seen or heard from for a number of years. Playing Glendower and calling him forth from the vasty deep probably isn't going to work.

It's a courtesy ping, something a pompous yankee might not understand. Regarding his location, just because YOU haven't conversed with him doesn't mean I haven't. I count myself blessed to have a friend like Nolu Chan.

For the lurkers and uninformed, Nolu Chan was banished because he had the temerity to quote St. Lincoln's use of the "N" would.

“Question:
If a person openly petitions his state government's elected officials to secede from the United States, is that person guily of sedition or worse, treason? Or is the aforementioned speech Contitutionally protected?”

The cultural Marxists have set us upon a course of dissolution.

So very true.

Their strategy has come together in a "perfect storm" whose figurehead is Barack Hussein Obama.

Just a few years ago, what is happening now was unthinkable.

We felt vindicated by defeating a louse like John Kerry and giving Bush a second term, but then it all went south. The 2006 elections were the wake up call, but the GOP wasn't listening.

Sometimes I feel like a canary in a coal mine.

I really can’t believe the number of anti-Americans on this forum, I expected better from conservatives. Why don’t you just make an unholy alliance with your terrorist brothers if you want to destroy this country rather than try to work to fix it.

“I don’t give a damn what SCOTUS said, the states cannot be forced to partake in a suicide pact with the Federal Government.”
Well said and worth repeating.

  1. Speaking of and/or petitioning for secession is Constitutionally protected speech
  2. Only a sick demented person would associate people expressing a desire for peaceful seperation/secession with treason
  3. Only the bully mindset thinks secession leads to war
  4. Yankees Suck

I’m from PA but I have no problem with succession!
What are we suppose to do?? If Washington wants to throw a rope around our necks and tie a boulder to our feet,, then have us all jump in the ocean,, what?? are we suppose to just all drown together??? We suppose to just all sink to the bottom hand in hand???? What virtue is there in that??
Washington is killing us!! they are forcing this on us!! They are open and active with their plans!!
If Texas were to actually move to do this,, we would pack everything in our car and be down their tomorrow! Heck,, I’d go buy a jeep, cowboy boots and a hat and go with nothing but the shirt I’m wearing and make my claim!!

Four of them highly schooled idiots couldn't locate the 2nd Amendment

We must have spent to much time focusing on the Soviets to notice they have taken control...Yet these “patriots” are going to call us un-American for fighting Marxism & Fascism?
Wouldn't Patton be proud

Yes, for those dopes on this thread talking about “allies of al queda,” “anti-Americanism,” etc. they should ask themselves where Jefferson, Adams, and Washington would be in this discussion.

Ah, yeah - right. Easy for you to say.

Maybe you should sober up before posting. I'm just sayin'
