Al Gore's Current TV Abandons it Reporters
Examiner.com/San Francisco ^ | 4/21/09 | Arthur Bruzzone

The silence is deadening and shameful. Two of Al Gore’s reporters (his online Current TV network), Laura Ling and Euna Lee, have been held captive for over a month by North Korea.

In that time, the former Vice President has not spoken a word of protest, his site is deleting comments from readers, they’ve posted a guard at their San Francisco studio to keep out the press, and not one article has appeared on his own journalist’s in their news section.

You will see, however, an article on the CIA interrogators use of waterboarding technique on U.S. captive Khalid Sheik Mohammed, the admitted planner of the Sept. 11 attacks.

The Current’s two journalists, Ling and Lee, face up to 10 years in labor camps. Hard labor. They were arrested by the North Korean authorities on 17 March after travelling through northern China to the North Korean border to do a story on trafficking in North Korean women.

They may have even not been in North Korea at the time of their arrest. North Korean border guards probably crossed the Tumen (the river that forms the border) while Ling and Lee were filming on the Chinese bank, according to Reporters without Borders.

Where is outrage. Where is Al Gore. And why is his online TV station suppressing readers’ comments, refusing to report the story about his own reporters, and posting guards to keep the press out.

Current TV states is mission on their home page (bottom right). “Current is about what's going on in your world: all the things you and your friends are actually interested in -- that you won't find on any other news site or cable TV channel.”:

Clearly, the fate of their reporters is of no interest to Current or Al Gore.

What a leader! And to think this character was once a heart beat away from the presidency!

C’mon, get your priorities straight! What is the lives of 2 reporters when compared against the threat of having a pot-belly contribute to Global Warming? There’s money to be made, political power to be grabbed - we can’t let something as inconsequential as the kidnapping, imprisionment and likely torture of 2 employees distract the “Great and Wonderful Gore-ster” from his sacred mission to save us from ourselves.

I’m sure that the reporters would want it this way.

I've watched maybe 5 minutes of their programming, and almost had to barf. If the programming guide on my cable system had said something about Al Gore being involved in Current TV, I would have never even bothered watching it.

And this is exactly what Algore would have done about a hostage situation had he been elected—nothing. We were so lucky in 2000. But it seems our luck has run out.

Actual title, which makes a lot more sense:

Al Gore’s online Current TV (based in San Francisco) abandons its own reporters

Believe me, they will find a way to rationalized this in such a way that Kim, Gore and Obama will be excused. They will probably say that the real cause of their imprisonment was US Militarism on the Korean Peninsula.

The unspoken truth here is that this whole thing was caused by their own arrogance and feelings of moral superiority. Frankly, people who illegally enter the territory of a sovereign nation should be arrested and punished.

Never underestimate the pig headed stupidity of San Francisco leftists.

We need to oppose these kind of clowns from the local level all the way to those in Washington D.C.

Expecting the Goracle to do anything to assist and help those who depend on him makes two erroneous assumptions right off the bat - that (1) he has principles and (2) that he has a backbone.

Al Gore is only interested in his cut of the profits.

If somebody can figure out a way to make a lot of money while getting these reporters out alive, a representative for Al Gore will meet with them to discuss his share of the profits.

The going rate for Al Gore is about $3 million for a series of mentions in the press, $25 million for the full monty outrage, Powerpoint presentation.

I tried to watch it the first couple of weeks that it was on... but it was just too unintelligible to bother with for more than a few minutes...It’s reporters seemed to be clueles as to what ever there words they were spouting even lrs than the topic, if that could be figured out. I blocked out of my lineup after about three weeks, as being not worth paying any attention to, as it seemed to be populated with clueless morons.

Maybe AlGore could be traded for the two reporters. I’ll even throw in a few dollars to help with the trade.

“The unspoken truth here is that this whole thing was caused by their own arrogance and feelings of moral superiority. Frankly, people who illegally enter the territory of a sovereign nation should be arrested and punished.”

Two points. First, did you miss the part where it said they were very likely NOT in North Korea when they were abducted? Second, do you really want to defend the trafficking of North Korean women? Frankly, anyone who opposes sexual slavery has a right to believe they are morally superior to people who practice it. That is because they are.

“In all fairness, don’t you think they’re probably working behind the scenes for their release. I do.”

They probably THINK they are, but since we know that socialists are dumb and idiotic, their efforts are likely limited to promises that they will not publicize anything about this, and in exchange, North Korea will promise that they will torture and abuse the reporters until dead. Al Gore is a moron. He isn't even smart enough to be able to hide how stupid he is.

A couple years ago I put it in my dish channel lineup for a few days just to see what it was. It looked like home movies of people doing nothing in particular.

Why would DPRK border guards go into China? Unless they were set up by their guides it’s not likely.

I am NOT defending sexual slavery and I don’t deserve the accusation. That said, these two pampered leftists don’t deserve my support.

You don't know these women. You don't even know if they are leftists beyond that they work for algore. What we do know about them is that they were trying to expose the brutality and inhumanity of the most oppressive Communist regime left on earth. That makes them a-ok in my book.

Indeed instead of scorning them they should be given medals. It's lucky for us that there are people like them in the world willing to stick their necks out for freedom and against oppression or we would all be living under Communist oppressors.

Actually, the important part of the Supreme Court decision was 7 to 2 finding that Florida’s method was unconstitutional. The 5 to 4 ruling was on whether to stop the recount and declare the secretary of state’s determination that Bush won to be valid.
