SIGNIFICANT INCREASED RISK OF PANDEMIC, BUT NOT FOREGONE CONCLUSION--SIREN ALERT ON DRUDGE
DRUDGE ^

Posted on 04/27/2009 1:43:18 PM PDT by pillut48

No story/source yet--is this about Mexico? Or America? Or is it a global warning??

Whatever it might be, it seems the military may be taking over the streets before too long, using this sudden 'pandemic' as an excuse?!

Sure starting to look to me like the tail is shaking the crap outta da pooch.

At the risk of sounding conspiratorial, I think this a matter of these four taking advantage of a method to declare martial law and confiscate all the guns owned by civilians...they will start with the membership lists of the NRA, IMO.

That will pave the way for the "National Security Force" you know, the force that is as "well-funded and armed as the US Military" to be set up as the only militia, under direct control of Rahm Emanuel.

Lol.

When I was a youngster on active duty one of the older NCO types told us a story on a slow night. He talked about when Clark AFB in the Phillipines closed for good because of the volcano. He said that while the volcano erupted and everyone rushed around like chickens with their heads cut off, him and a few of his buddies were out front of their barracks. He said him and all of his guys got drunk and listened to some thrash metal while ash poured down on them.

Basically, he told us in a situation like that you can either be calm and savor the moment or run around in a crazy frenzy.

I grew up on a farm and helped with the pigs for several years, I wonder if I am immune to the flu because I was subjected to lesser variant of it that my immune system could have inoculated me against?

Yet another reason I am glad I grew up on a farm.

Preventing large group gatherings was the same thought I had. A form of crowd control.

why do I not like the wording of that headline? This is sounding really bad. It reads like something out of a Tom Clancy or John Ringo book.

Cautious optimism, and vigilance are the key here, IMHO.

As FDR said, “The only thing we have to fear is fear itself”. Panic is NOT a good idea on ANYONE’s part — especially at this stage...

For those who are the ‘praying type’ and find themselves a bit unsettled right now — I have personally found Psalms to be particularly helpful in times of stress or worry...

[One other thing I’d like to share with my fellow FReepers: As for those who actually find themselves with worry so great that they can’t control their heart-rate and calm down, a call to your doctor, or a visit to the ER for a possible panic attack, heart attack, or stroke is NOT the WORST idea (especially if it’s just a phone call that helps you rule out things that require emergency medical attention (like a stroke or heart attack). Also, if you find yourself irrationally worried at this point, or become obsessed about this topic — also not a bad idea to go out and enjoy the spring weather, or just spend time with friends and family, watching a good movie (particularly a favorite comedy), or a variety of other things that get your mind OFF this topic for a while.]

I had heard it was 2 different swine flu strands mixed in (N. American Swine & European/Asian Swine flu), with human flu strain “A”, and N. American Avian flu. Am I missing one?

It seems that the media, including Foxnews, is reporting that everyone is in a panic across the globe in fear of "the other white meat sniffles and coughs".

Keeping with the Homeland Security Department's non-use of the words "War On Terror" or "terrorists", I thought I would create a new DHS politically correct name.

I agree with the other poster about preventing large gatherings. level 5 might be stopping of movement. When they close the schools, it might be too late. I wonder what the boys at Fort Detrick are doing? If you see them running for the hills, it might be all over but the shouting. John Ringo has a now chilling book on this called The Last Centurion that talks of a liberal response to a bird flu plus massive global cooling event with a President who sounded a lot like Hillary.

Now, if someone could just photoshop some lipstick on that face...just rewards after demeaning Sarah Palin!

“the other white meat sniffles and coughs”.

LOL. :)

I’m personally annoyed that they are calling this “swine flu”. I’m living in an agricultural area right now, and frankly calling it “swine flu” doesn’t denote the proper ‘respect’ for what doctors and researchers and others are dealing with right now...

I really wish they’d call it something more descriptive, or different something like perhaps; Mexican Avian/Swine Flu or something (to denote the first appearance and highest concentration, and seemingly highest fatality rate’s geographic location, as well as including the Avian signifier to differentiate between the naturally occurring Swine Flu Viruses that are NOT capable of Human-Human transmission, and are common among people who have close contact with live infected pigs for whatever reason, and this particular Virus.

This is especially important in light of the fact that our media isn’t the greatest at relaying accurate information, especially about topics that are much more complicated than your average ‘car crash’ story, especially when it involves a more complex than usual understanding of medicine and illness to accurately report on this situation, IMHO.

If the CDC and such don’t do, IMHO, more to focus in on specific information on behalf of responsibly informing our public and taking into the consideration the state of the world’s mass media in regards to this disease we will either have undue panic, or failure to recognize a ‘known danger’ that we can do a lot to combat against if we work together...

ALL JHMO...

This is just another case of them peeing down our backs and telling us its raining. The only thing we are suffering from is the JackAss flu.
