Cass Sunstein sees Web as anti-democratic, proposed 24-hour delay on sending e-mail

WASHINGTON – Barack Obama's nominee for "regulatory czar" has advocated a "Fairness Doctrine" for the Internet that would require opposing opinions be linked and also has suggested angry e-mails should be prevented from being sent by technology that would require a 24-hour cooling off period.

The revelations about Cass Sunstein, Obama's friend from the University of Chicago Law School and nominee to head the White House Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs, come in a new book by Brad O'Leary, "Shut Up, America! The End of Free Speech." OIRA will oversee regulation throughout the U.S. government.

Sunstein also has argued in his prolific literary works that the Internet is anti-democratic because of the way users can filter out information of their own choosing.

"A system of limitless individual choices, with respect to communications, is not necessarily in the interest of citizenship and self-government," he wrote. "Democratic efforts to reduce the resulting problems ought not be rejected in freedom's name."

"Fairness" was only supposed to prevent control of limited broadcast frequencies back in the early days of radio and TV channels (remember TV's with only channels 2-13?)

This certainly doesn't apply to the internet.

"A system of limitless individual choices, with respect to communications, is not necessarily in the interest of citizenship and self-government,"

Uh... Excuse me A** hat, A system of limitless individual choices including involving communication IS necessary for a free society and self government.

And who the hell does this piece of **** think he is talking about self government? He wants to ban the second amendment as well as the first one. And it wont stop there.

Joseph Goebles would be proud of this man.

This is going to rile the civil libertarians.

Only the real ones. Not those who use the issue of civil liberties, (notice they don't say "Constitutional Rights") as something to beat conservatives over the head and advance their socialist agendas.

Power, his wife, was appointed to the National Security Council, where she is senior director for multilateral affairs.

She's not all bad, she once called Hillary "A Monster", but then resigned from Obama's campaign back in March of 2008 because of the remark. She was thrown under the bus, but,

she's Baaack

What a bunch of flaming Reds Obama has on staff.

Which one is he, the conehead or the hippy?

He's the conehead. The hippy is his wife, now the senior director for multilateral affairs, at the National Security Council.

Jolly Huh?

In more ways than one. Power's hair color, IIRC, matches her political slant.

Uhm...make you do what?

Commit Suicide? That looks to me to be a revolver in someone’s left hand, aimed backward.

I agree with this! Emails should be delayed 24 hours. There's often a few good zingers that I think of later which I wished I'd included.

Whoops! Another unintended consequence that escaped the "liberal" totalitarians. Since they don't have a religion they should pray to Ceausescu... "Tell us, oh master of nothing, how do we avoid your fate?"

On December 25, Ceausescu and his wife were condemned to death by a military court on charges ranging from illegal gathering of wealth to genocide, and were executed in Târgovişte, Romania. Before they were shot dead, Ceauşescu sang part of “The Internationale” and proclaimed that history would judge him well. His wife was screaming at everyone to go to hell.

It is a tactical wave.

Disrupt communication, disarm.

Repeat as necessary.
