Specter To Switch Parties: (fillibuster-proof majority with Franken)
Washington Post ^ | 4/28/09 | Chris Cillizza

Posted on 04/28/2009 9:29:46 AM PDT by Nachum

Pennsylvania Sen. Arlen Specter will switch his party affiliation from Republican to Democrat and announced today that he will run in 2010 as a Democrat, according to a statement he released this morning.

Specter's decision would give Democrats a 60 seat filibuster proof majority in the Senate assuming Democrat Al Franken is eventually sworn in as the next Senator from Minnesota. (Former Sen. Norm Coleman is appealing Franken's victory in the state Supreme Court.)

Last I knew, Franken hadn’t won yet.

What is the vote difference at this point.

“Wonder what the dems will give him.”

-Perhaps a ‘magic bullet’.

Spectre’s behavior is gross.

The liberal creep Schauer (7th - MI) ousted a great conservative, Tim Walberg last November, and Schauer’s seat is STILL vacant. Jenny Grandtheft refused to schedule an interim election until this coming November.

No core moral principles to be guided by, just rank self preservation.

Well said and very true.

Crap.

Not crap.

This is an opportunity. An opportunity to give the 'Rats another length of the rope (i.e., filibuster-proof majority) with which to hang themselves. And they will. They always do.

I don’t think they like the word progressives, it’s the original big government liberalism.

The left usually changes the words when they become too hat to handle.

They are regressive, especially wearing bells on your dress like two year olds do.

They stood up for him, helped him when he needed it, and how does he repay them now?

What do you expect from liberals...it is always about them.

The bright side is that he must be admitting that Toomey would have beat him... great news for the next Senator from the state of PA... TOOMEY !!

As Rush pointed out, this saves Toomey tons of money that he would have had to spend in the primary.

I plan to send Toomey lots of money for this campaign.

Curb your pessimism a little too...If this country is so far gone that we can’t get enough conservatives and independents to take the country back after Obambi gets through then it just doesn’t matter. Specter was always a democrat now he has to run as one. Don’t think the dems in Penn. are just going to lay down for him he very well may split the liberal vote and get the pub elected.

No, it's the deal he made with Satan. Amazing how everything is falling in place as the throne of the Antichrist is being built.

It's also worth noting that Specter is an old man -- so the 2010 election might very well be his last.

Good riddance to the old f#cker.

They see him for what he is also. He isn’t exactly loved in Penn. like Joe Lieberman was in Conn.

Listen, restoring the conservative mantle is the first step in restoring party credibility for the Republicans. They should actively seek to purge their ranks of Schwarzeneger, McCain, Spectre, Snowe and Collins for starters. If they could get rid of all of these and replace them with real conservatives, that’d be a real plus. Next, they need a real public mia copa on the spending of the Bush administration and they need to promise not to ever do it again. Finally, they need real leadership. Right now, all I see is the second tier ranks of supporters. A real leader must emerge. Once that happens, the brand can be reintroduced. Incidentally, that’ll be about the time Americans will be fed up with Obama and the socialists. If all of this can be accomplished in three years, then Barry will be the one term affirmative action realization and demise.

Cheers.

I wish all the big RINOs would do the same. It would get rid of the stupid rationalization of some that we have to support the republican no matter how liberal they are.

I couldn't agree more.
