New York, New York April 29th, 2009 - The National Leadership Team of the Nationwide Tea Party Coalition (http://www.nationwideteapartycoalition.com) today accepted President Obama`s invitation "to have a serious conversation about how we are going to cut our health care costs down over the long term, how we are going to stabilize Social Security.
The invitation was extended by the President at a Town Hall Meeting held in Arnold, Missouri today (http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0409/21870.html). Michael Patrick Leahy, a member of the National Leadership Team of the Nationwide Tea Party Coalition, said " We want to broaden the scope to address the President`s runaway march to socialist-statism, and the rampant across the board irresponsible spending he is promoting with his $787 Billion Stimulus Plan and his $1 Trillion Annual Deficit, his takeover of General Motors, Chrysler and the Banks ."
Kellen Giuda, organizer of the New York City Tea party attended by 12,000 and of Parcbench (http://www.parcbench.com) said, I think a constructive dialogue with the President would be a great opportunity for him to acknowledge that, yes, many Americans have a problem with the way Washington is handling our taxpayer dollars and also that we are concerned about health care and social security reform. I am happy he is open to a discussion. The Tea Parties are protesting against fiscal irresponsibility and any dialogue we can have will hopefully bring a better public understanding of our country`s finances. Health care and social security reform is a large concern to us."
The National Leadership Team of the Nationwide Tea Party Coalition includes 25 of the more than 900 local organizers of the April 15, 2009 Tax Day Tea Parties held across the country, which were attended by more than 1 million Americans. Members of the National Leadership Team includes Judson Phillips, organizer of the Nashville Tea Party attended by 10,000, James Dickey, organizer of the Dallas Tea Party, attended by 5,000, and JoAnn Abbot, organizer of the Washington, DC Tea Party attended by more than 3,000. The full list of the 25 members of the National Leadership Team of the Nationwide Tea Party Coalition can be found at http://www.nationwideteapartycoalition.com/about.php
Tell us about the TEA party you organized, please. How many attended? How did you finance it? How did you promote it? What groups did you work with?
I am a local organizer. If the ‘movement’ is made up only individuals who have nothing better to do than play ‘Keyboard Warrior’ we get NOTHING done.
Then they are just like you.
And you should be in touch with these people instead of bitchin'
Did anyone ask you why you had a right to represent yourself as the local leader? No. Don't gripe about people who are making it happen.
I find this alarming!
True. Or they could be a bunch of polictically ambitious hacks leeching off the success of a grassroots movement. The principled approach would be for them to create new entity. I would then have a choice of following their ideas or rejecting them. It is unacceptable for self-appointed "Leaders" to presume they speak for all the individuals that came out on April 15.
The tea parties were effective because they terrified the clowns in the DC clown car. They only did that because there was no leadership that could be isolated and marginalized.
Why change something that works.
I’m doing great, Doc! How are you? I miss you guys and your wit!
“This gentleman tried to claim the mantle of leader in a movement that only maintains credibility when there IS NO leader.”
You are correct!
I guarantee they won't change Obama’s mind.
Hold a debate on the issues instead. Let him try to convince the public. Right now the press isn't doing enough to ask questions.
The week of the Tea Parties, the media insisted that they were wellfunded and sponsored by the GOP and Fox News.
What happened to that talking point? Did the media ever issue a retraction?
The “team” can talk to Obama and reiterate the purpose of the tea parties. It should avoid being compromised by his charms or lies.
Ask around, you are surrounded by 2nd amendment activists here. If you don’t want us at your next Tea Party, just spit it right out, don’t be shy!
I agree 100%. If there is a known leadership, then they can be coopted and corrupted. In my opinion, the movement is stronger as a disparate grassroots movement than it would be as a bureaucracy with centralized authority.
Let them call themselves something else and identify themselves as organizers of some of the more high-profile tea parties if they want to.
Agreed. I equate Dear Leader's true motivations to the scene in 'Braveheart' where a young William Wallace sees first-hand the results of the Scottish nobles "meeting" with King Longshanks.
I don’t know why you’re getting mad at me. I’m simply saying I want no part of a nationally organized effort in the name of the tea parties.
Sure, Obama will meet with them. Then he will promptly ignore every word they say.
I am very concerned on people we don’t know speaking to the president about this cause. It’s almost like leadership with no resume behind it.
"We won, no more discussion"
The craziest thing could happen..they could speak out on behalf of the tea parties, say or do something we’re against, and the protestors could revolt against this.
You get the feathers. I’ll bring the tar.
It’s the very reason why Glenn Beck refused to be the head of this movement, because it would be so easy to destroy the whole thing by making a few, easy to isolate, person the image for the whole thing.
You brushed off a significant portion of Tea Party participants. I don’t think I read you wrong.
“Sure, Obama will meet with them. Then he will promptly ignore every word they say.”
He will spin it in his favor.
not sure that the orignal tea partiers woulda met with King George...and had a sit down...knowing what we know about the homosexual illegal alien in chief..do they ACTUALLY believe he’ll listen to what they have to say....idiots...you do NOT sit down with the enemy unless they are surrendering
There is a spirit of William Wallace among us and there is nothing Obama or his minions can do about it.
If these “leaders” are genuinely trying to represent the Tea Party Movement, then they should be fairly easy to contact, and it is likely that they know a Freeper. We really need to do some recon on the group and seek to speak to the head of their organization and see what their strategy is. What do we know about these “leaders?”
And, what do we do if they misrepresent us?
What if they deliberately make fools of us?
What can we do NOW, to make it clear to the public that there is no national Tea Party leadership?
Write letters to editors? Call in to radio talk shows?
Send press releases to local TV news?
It seems a proactive approach is wise... even if the National “leaders” mean well.
The Tea Parties might be the best thing we have going, and we can’t afford to have it isolated, polarized, etc.
Please offer your thoughts...
Pulling out my popcorn...here kitty...
National Organizations got us into this mess, Individuals will get us out....”
Let us know when you have things all fixed.
The Tea Parties are protesting against fiscal irresponsibility and any dialogue we can have will hopefully bring a better public understanding of our countrys finances
I guess I misunderstood what they were about...If it is only about the money then shame on me for falling for it.
You should get to go. Insist on cameras in the room and the right to take the meeting “to the people who protested independent of any party or ‘organization’”...oh, and wear masks. That would be a nice touch.
Yes. They’ve called his bluff.
The National Leadership Team

I belong to four groups, all of which sponsored/promoted the TEA Party idea.
These individuals are Leaders of their group. Period! HOWEVER, if they wish to call 0bama’s bluff, more power to them.
Geez! FReepers! We have to work TOGETHER to have an impact. Yes, the idea of one overall organization is a bad idea, but 50,000,000 individuals with NO coherent message is even worse!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought part of the reason for the Tea Parties was to let new conservative leadership step forward. If they are doing so I personally don't have a problem with that. Seems like the linked responses were pretty good IMHO....
Odinga will convert them to ISLAM, then poison them with Polonium.
Then he’ll hold a press conference and say, “They looked tired, then they died. Oh look, here’s the family dog running up the stairs!”
Chamberlain felt good after meeting with Hitler.
Maybe we’ll feel good after meeting with Hussein the moslem usurper communist.
Well, at least they had the huevos to put their names down. However, I can’t even begin to imagine the PERSONAL downside they will experience once DU and HP start working their “opposition research” magic.
I hope there isn’t one single skeleton in any of these closets because if there is THAT will become the face of the TP movement.
You know, because the MSM will say it is.
Forget Obama, Pelosi and Reid, the lib dominated media is the real enemy.
A couple of you posters have HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD.
This meeting is just a CASTING CALL to choose WHICH LEADER to DEMONIZE in the media.
They’re gonna take a bunch of photos. Rahm Emmanuel will scope out the easiest target, then the COMMIE MOSLEM attack machine will launch into action.
They’ll choose a “leader” then coordinate media attacks on that “leader.” Just like they’ve been doing to Republicans for 50 years.
By the time they’re done, 300 million americans will know how many times that leader picked his nose on the playground at age 3, and where he wiped it.
Treat HUSSEIN like Iran - don’t meet with him.
They must be told unequivocally they are on their own. They do not represent or speak for anybody else or any group.
HEY BAMA!! DON’T CALL US, WE’LL CALL YOU.
The Tea Parties are about FREEDOM, and that is not something you are qualified to speak to natural born Americans or anyone else about.
The “Tea Party Leadership” is now an identifiable target... the guys agreeing to meet with obama and the entire national media being prepared to spin the meeting...
the TP “leaders” are being played by a master marxist with one of the world's greatest propaganda machines.
Think Joe the Plumber and Sarah Palin had a few skeletons ( or bogus skeletons) dredged up? Just wait until zerO’s agencies and agents get through picking through the private lives of the tea party “leaders”
When you disagree with the messiah, to paraphrase “the Godfather”
It's not business, it's personal!
Good Luck. Get your taxes in order. You'll be audited for the next 4 years or more. Among other things.
