Expert: More women are in relationships with other women
Some leave husbands or boyfriends for other women
Researchers study whether women's sexuality is less fixed than men's
Professor: Sexual fluidity is not something women can control Lately, a new kind of sisterly love seems to be in the air. In the past few years, Sex and the City's Cynthia Nixon left a boyfriend after a decade and a half and started dating a woman (and talked openly about it).
Certainly nothing is new about women having sex with women, but we've arrived at a moment in the popular culture when it all suddenly seems almost fashionable -- or at least, acceptable.
Statistics on how many women have traded boyfriends and husbands for girlfriends are hard to come by. Although the U.S. Census Bureau keeps track of married, divorced, single, and even same-sex partners living together, it doesn't look for the stories behind those numbers.
But experts like Binnie Klein, a Connecticut-based psychotherapist and lecturer in Yale's department of psychiatry, agree that alternative relationships are on the rise.

I thinke that’s what he or she said. That’s the way I took it.
Genghis—i think you just dug yourself into a hole you can’t get out of—
I know what you mean deannadurbin. You and Judy Garland were big pals but you never would have gone for this.
If you taught my kids, and I found out you allowed that, you would not forget my name.
Of course he did say “highschool”, so maybe the students were 18—and couldn’t be seen by the minors and he was the fav hip teach because he allowed certain rules to be broken.
You’re a high school teacher? I have read that education majors have the lowest SAT scores. Your crass, stupid comment doesn’t cast any doubt on that statistic.
Seems like it’s gotten worse. I only got out three years ago and knew some openly gay relationships. If they had done anything like that in public... I even with my friends who were girls, (which I was very affection too) was told to back of, even though there was nothing wrong with it. (though I did hear about some questionable activities in the bathroom between girls. Never did hear if they had anything on them...)
Though I will say I’m going to enjoy this smackdown.

Graduated of high school I mean. Mine was also a suburb, and in a red area, so that might have contributed.
(Sorry four AM... forget to add the most important facts)
Tell me about it!
My wife spends so much shower time shaving me I feel like a poodle!
My wife just tells me, “I want the hair gone. I don’t wanna know how or where. Just gone.”
huh? Oh, wait, it’s CNN.
My kids knew about some open relationships too—and the guys who were openly gay were not picked on. They didn’t do the PDA in school.
You mean why John Lennon got six bullets in the chest, and Yoko was right next to him and not a single bullet?
I will say there is definately a double standard.
Two women don’t even have to be lesbian to occasionally want to be with other women.
But when it comes to guys, as The Diceman said. “You either ...., or you do not......, there is no in-between.”
Years ago, when I was studying to be a clinical psychologist, I remember my clinical supervisor making the extremely politically incorrect remark that she'd never met a homosexual whose homosexuality didn't develop out of some sort of psychological trauma or severe mental illness.
My ears are bleeding...and it’s just a picture
One wonders if they're leaving Oprah-cized "men" behind; trading a faux-woman for the real thing.
I’ll never understand why a woman would want another woman especially if she’s butch.. I mean why be with someone that looks like a man but doesn’t have the package? That’s like having a blow up doll with out the holes. Crazy.
