Montana Governor Signs New Gun Law-(DARES Obama To Challenge it!)
Gather ^ | 5-5-09 | George W.

Posted on 05/06/2009 7:24:33 AM PDT by tcrlaf

The state of Montana has signed into power a revolutionary gun law. I mean REVOLUTIONARY.

The State of Montana has defied the federal government and their gun laws. This will prompt a showdown between the federal government and the State of Montana . The federal government fears citizens owning guns. They try to curtail what types of guns they can own. The gun control laws all have one common goal - confiscation of privately owned firearms.

Montana has gone beyond drawing a line in the sand. They have challenged the Federal Government. The fed now either takes them on and risks them saying the federal agents have no right to violate their state gun laws and arrest the federal agents that try to enforce the federal firearms acts. This will be a world-class event to watch.

Montana could go to voting for secession from the union, which is really throwing the gauntlet in Obama's face. If the federal government does nothing they lose face. Gotta love it.

Important Points - If guns and ammunition are manufactured inside the State of Montana for sale and use inside that state then the federal firearms laws have no applicability since the federal government only has the power to control commerce across state lines. Montana has the law on their side. Since when did the USA start following their own laws especially the constitution of the USA , the very document that empowers the USA .

Silencers made in Montana and sol in Montana would be fully legal and not registered. As a note silencers were first used before the 007 movies as a device to enable one to hunt without disturbing neighbors and scaring game. They were also useful as devices to control noise when practicing so as to not disturb the neighbors.

Silencers work best with a bolt-action rifle. There is a long barrel and the chamber is closed tight so as to direct all the gases though the silencer at the tip of the barrel. Semi-auto pistols and revolvers do not really muffle the sound very well except on the silver screen. The revolvers bleed gas out with the sound all over the place. The semi-auto pistols bleed the gases out when the slide recoils back.

Silencers are maybe nice for snipers picking off enemy soldiers even though they reduce velocity but not very practical for hit men shooting pistols in crowded places. Silencers were useful tools for gun enthusiasts and hunters.

There would be no firearm registration, serial numbers, criminal records check, waiting periods or paperwork required. So in a short period of time there would be millions and millions of unregistered untraceable guns in Montana . Way to go Montana !

Oklahoma is laying the ground work:

The Oklahoma House overrode the governor’s veto of the legislation asserting state’s rights under the 10th.

Subsonic loads can be reloaded for most bolt action calibers.

I would think that one would want to stick with the heavier grain bullets that would have more punch at lower velocities.

A quiet 45/70 might be fun for night hunting of coyotes?

I found it VERY telling that the first .22 cal cartridges to get sold out were subsonic “sniper” rounds.

I like the idea of a 500 grain subsonic, but you sure don’t need the case capacity of a 45-70 to push it that slow, and that large of a case might just prove problematic for uniform ignition.

OK, just for you...lets re chamber that 45/70 and trim the case down.

Or, how about re chamber for a 45acp or even 9mm?

Lots of 45LC and 44mag lever actions out there that would be fun to put a silencer on.

"I drop a .22 converter into my suppressed AR15 and run subsonic rounds"

And then, on the other side of the spectrum...

You are right, I can't predict what would happen. But when the ATF makes a raid on a Montana gun store or gun owner because of this law, we shall see. My guess is a lot of bluster from the state legislature, and serious jail time for the person or persons arrested.

As for over running Montana, if the governor decides to secede, it wouldn't take much for the Federal army to roll over it. Remember what happened in Iraq to the guys who had more than just small arms.

Now, that would probably be a watershed moment, and the fallout of it would be very interesting, as I suspect many states would leave and we could have a civil war. But if Montana goes it alone (or any state) the Federal army will win.

Here's a suggestion from Mark Alexander of Patriot Post

Other states are preparing similar legislation, but I would suggest one of them take the Tenth Amendment challenge a major step forward.

Let's see a state pass a law requiring that any and all federal authorities who wish to carry a firearm within the boundary of said state, must be in possession of a "right to carry" permit issued and authorized by that state's governor.

I admire your candor. Another factor is that there is just a HUGE difference between suppressors of differing quality on different guns. What is completely true in one case might not be in another.

I just sent off an Email to my State Senator, John Carey (Republican Conservatvie 17th District Ohio) And asked him if Ohio has anything similar in the Works and if Not can we get something started.

I urge you all to contact your State Reps and Senators to see if you can get similar laws enacted in your home States!

Thing about really cold places is that the people are experts at staying warm. I learned this visiting Norway one winter.

Anyway, don’t worry about the temp; live where your heart is.

Why is it when people defend the 2nd amend you hear all this bs about the 10 amend?
When was the last time a person defending their 1st amend right had to use other amendments to defend it?
NEVER!

The 2nd amend is about the right to bear arms. Nothing more, nothing less.

I am from MT and we want silencers for one reason and that is predators and especially prairie dogs. We have some of the best of both and with the prairie dogs the farmers are forced to poison them because after the first couple of KABOOMS from the 22-250 they dissapear.

"What firearms are manufactured inside the State of Montana ?"

Better question:
How many existing shops could start manufacturing selected frames / receivers tomorrow?

“Haven’t Texas and Oklahoma suceeded as well?”

Yessirree....Oklahoma followed Texas in filing to secede and even made our legislation veto proof so that our Democrat Governor could not veto....lovin’ it!
