Issue of Guantanamo Detainees Simmers in Va.

The intensifying debate over what to do with 241 detainees in the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, has pushed the candidates for Virginia governor to address widespread speculation that at least two locations in the state, including Alexandria and Fairfax County, could receive prisoners.

Although the three Democrats and one Republican broadly agree that detainees should be kept out of Virginia if possible, the issue has caused some state political leaders to divide along party lines over President Obama's promise to close the prison, which has become an unpopular symbol of the United States' handling of the war on terror.

Robert F. McDonnell, the lone Republican candidate running this year, has staked out the clearest position: "Keep Guantanamo Bay Detainees Out of Virginia," read a recent statement from his campaign. Democrats Terry McAuliffe and R. Creigh Deeds issued more softly worded positions, with McAuliffe voicing "serious concerns" about housing detainees in Virginia and a Deeds spokesman saying it's a "bad idea." The third Democrat, Brian Moran, took no position, promising to evaluate Obama's plan "once it comes out."

How is it that unlawful combatants under international law are to receive trials in America? This makes no sense whatsoever.

Also, the 17 (17!!!) poor bedraggled Uighur terrorists are (oddly enough) wanted in China for terrorism, which is why they're being ***released into the communities of Northern Virginia****!?!?!?!?! Probably Fairfax!?!?! At public expense!?!?!

The world is completely mad.

More:

"The debate has a local element, too, with Rep. Frank R. Wolf strongly opposing the possibility of settling 17 of the detainees -- Chinese Muslims known as Uighurs -- in a Uighur community in Wolf's district in Fairfax County. Wolf (R) said he recently learned that the release of the Uighurs was imminent..."

I forgot to mention that this is one of the few times the WashPost has mentioned that the poor victimized Uighur terrorists are “Chinese Muslims.”

Most reporters are too stupid and parochial to know that.

Whereas others might know that that the entire western 20 percent of China is Uighur (aka Chinese Muslim). But they don’t want readers to think about that.

This is the Yucca Mountain issue for the Virginia elections.

Let the Republicans be clear.....Guantanamo is the best choice and Democrats shot their mouth off without having an alternative. Now they want to house or release dangerous terrorists into our communities.

We can turn 2010 in a tidal reverse.

Once the terrorist step foot on US soil they will be granted full Constitutional rights and no judge can deny it.

Presumably they are on refugee visas.

With the entire Zer0 Justice Department fully and completely aware that they are al Qaeda-trained Muslim terrorists.

Maybe Obama thinks Virginia is sufficiently Democrat that the prisoner-dump won’t have too much political consequence.

Come on, neighbors to the north in Virginia! Fight this and throw the detainees back in Obama’s face! Tell Obama to house them in his house in Chicago! How did we ever get this far in letting these kind of people in our country?

Bring them to Va and turn them loose in the Jefferson National Forrest...Some of the good ole boys would give an accounting and end the problem. Unwanted folk tend to disappear there end of problem.

Yes it is unfortunately true that Northern Virginia is now filled to the brim with lefties in Arlington and Alexandria, and with extremely gullible newcomers (aka “immigrants”) in Fairfax, Prince William, and Loudoun counties.
