FBI subpoenas Easley travel records [Former NC Governor (Dem)]
Raleigh News & Obstructor ^ | May 15, 2009 | J. ANDREW CURLISS

The FBI issued a subpoena to the state Highway Patrol today, ordering the agency to produce all records related to private air travel of the Easley family.

The request is made as part of a grand jury investigation, according to the documents. The grand jury meets next week, according to the subpoena.

Besides seeking information about the private travels of former Gov. Mike Easley, his wife Mary Easley and his son Michael Easley Jr., the subpoena requests documents relating to:

Payments made in exchange for the air travel.

Communications with the Easley family regarding the private travel.

Communications regarding public inquiries surrounding the air travel.

The state Highway Patrol's records retention policy.

The retention or destruction of records related to travel by the Easley family.

The News & Observer published a story on Saturday detailing private flights that the former governor took based on records Easley had kept secret while in office. Some flights were free, according to aircraft owners and pilots who flew him. Some were not reported on campaign disclosure reports, though the records show that they were campaign flights.

You got that right...I lived in NC for several months and was astounded by the number of pols in jail, convicted and ready to go to jail or being investigated. Then there was all the police corruption. What a hole...all courtesy of the dems...and voters who just can’t kick the govt hand out habit.

And remember who it was that appointed most of the judges and district attorneys in the state.

Usually i[I]f party is not identified in a scandal story by MSM, the subject is dem.

They always identify republicans in the headline and in first sentence.

Can I assume that the failure to mention party affiliation in this story means that Easly’s a RAT

It's the local newspaper, so no need to mention party. Everybody here knows who Easley is, and NC governors are always Democrats. We've only had 2 or 3 Republican governors since Reconstruction. It's common knowledge here.

Yep that’s correct. People would be amazed to find out how much corruption exists in NC.

Easley is best known nationally as the idiot who appointed Mike Nifong as Durham District Attorney.

How convenient that the Grand Jury waits until the crook is out of office before beginning an investigation. They should start right now on Bev Perdue for her theft of State Education Lottery funds for general fund use, and for her grabbing the Federal bailout funds for her hometown cronies.

All roads lead to Durham. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

Thanks to abb for the ping.

So true. They wait long enough so that NC (without MY vote) elected a weak female Democrat governor rather than her very strong Republican opponent. Had Obama not been on the ballot, the outcome would have been different. I have been a NC State Employee for over 25 years and our financial situation has never been so dire - yet not one hint of the “impending doom” came to light last year so that the sheeple would put the Dems back in office.

This stuff never happens when the democrat is in office. It magically remains behind the door.

Should have known he’s a DEM. Not a word in the article.

But it is in the title. (Unless it was added later.)
