“It just gets old after a while. And then the people making these movies pat themselves on the back and boast about what courage it took for them to take on big, bad Christianity, while cowering at the thought of taking on Islam”
They are following the Mordred/Alinsky process of trying to bait the Christian Arthurians into a civil war... Much to Mordred and his followers’ dismay, they got one!
I found it interesting enough. It has some twists and turns that were unexpected. The only films I’ve seen lately that were really good were Second Hand Lions and Taking Chance. Great movies.
Dan Brown’s writing style is atrociously poor.
“And thats what matters. I wont lose my faith because of any of these movies”
There were a lot of folks, who aren’t as educated into matters of faith who did think that some of Brown’s fictional assertions were and are true(the truth still being partially suppressed of course!)
Your attack against another Freeper was not justified.
ALL of the great films you mentioned had little or NO political purpose. They were, as you say, “entertainment” and good entertainment, at that.
However, Hollywood ALSO loves to make propaganda films.
The best way for conservatives to “cure” Hollywood of this annoying and harmful habit is to hit them at the box office.
When reviews make it plain that a book or movie is a left wing propaganda front, I will not support it.
I liked him in Forrest Gump. Talk about bad hair. But it was a fun movie and very touching in parts. Loved Lt. Dan!
“but they can be looked at as entertainment not factual?”
True enough BUT when the “entertainment” is advertised as “fact” then that is when it should be exposed as the “fiction” it is!
Next...
I’m sure there are. People who know the truth need to speak out about it when appropriate.
So expose it. No problem.
I watched two shows over then weekend that discussed the movie:the History Channel and the Discovery Channel. The History Channel’s two hours was barely watchable. I found myself channel surfing during the “obigiatory secret conspiracy organizations have got to be true” portions. At least they had good representatives from the Catholic Church giving rebuttal.
The Discovery Channel’s one hour show was excellent. It combined religion, political and art historians which examined the claims in the book and movie. It debunked all of the secret conspiracies with historical facts, little things like an oblisk being put in one location 17 years before Bernini was born or that the “west wind” placque being imbedded in St. Peter’s Square 150 years after Bernini died along with 7 other placques showing the major directions of the compass. It also showed how the directions that the book claims some of the statues were pointing are 90 degrees or more off from the actual direction.
My recommendation: Watch the Discovery Channel show about the movie and skip the History Channel show. The Discovery Channel show also provides an excellent historical commentary about Bernini’s sculptures.
The At the Movies guys said skip it.
People need to go after the History channels and anyone else that promotes this as history.
Mickey Mouse is actually historical. He’s just not real.
That’s what bothers me about my non-catholic christian friends who love the books and movies...”it’s only fiction” they say.
And yet the author and Howard both claim they are historical novels - that the “history” presented is well researched and true.
I don’t know how many times I’ve heard christians say “I don’t really care that Jesus was married...”
They are always DaVinci fans.
And poor Leonardo must be rolling in his grave.
He sketched that painting first and labelled that figure as John.
He didn’t give him a beard because it was well accepted tradition that John was very young.
“Taking Chance” was wonderful. I bought several DVDs and sent them to friends and family.
The movie got two thumbs down by my wife and I. Rogue priest plot, hit man, blaming the Illuminati, etc. etc.. Seen better.
It really was. Kevin Bacon did a great job.
Look, while this is “entertainment” there is also no doubt that the author harbors anti-catholic sentiments. Just because something is “entertainment” does not mean it is not also propoganda. Uncle Tom’s Cabin was “entertainment” but it is also one of the most successful works of propoganda in the last 200 years.
