I really wonder why some of these council members haven’t had the living crap kicked out of them. If my Village Board tried this foolishness they’d be run out of town on a rail.

Yeah, but can they sign the sick parent of a celebrity out of his/her nursing home to interview them about the celebrity? if not, then they're still amateurs...

fyi: this happened to Brooke Shield's mother within the last several days, courtesy of the National Enquirer.

Anyone want to guess that this will be used in our new Volunteerism program?

Hey, if they’re not doing anything wrong, what do they have to worry about, right? /s

We still give our leftists that job around here, though I suspect it will change in the next budget year.

With all the foreclosures we have around here that are falling into disrepair, my hubby has been cutting the grass on the one next door to us (vermin and snakes were coming into our yard and no one else was doing it, so we decided to do it ourselves).

Code enforcement came around the other day, and asked my neighbor to tell whoever was mowing that lawn to stop NOW. They cant consider the house in violation and charge the bank and future owner of the home violation fines because we cut it.

I think my husband might be trying to find out what law they were commanding us to cease and desist from; volunteerism? acting neighborly? being part of a community? His christian duty? What law are we breaking? Any lawyers care to chime up? The property is not posted so thats not an issue, its a residential lot. Obviously we can’t go in the house as that has the forclosure notice and lockbox, but really, we can’t drive our lawnmower on her property?

Soviet Union counted on the children to report their parents.

You’ve got me. Great Britian is only a few years ahead of us I fear. We’re headed for this same thing, if it isn’t already happening through our school systems.

Geez, in the US a 7-yr old might not even be allowed to testify.

Chances are your village is counting on those fines as a revenue stream.

We live in a duplex and the unit attached to ours was vacant for almost 3 years. I got the same speech from our code enforcement droids.

I told them I'd quite happily bill the Village for any damage that occured to my home due to the lack of care on the attached unit.

That was the last time I ever heard from them even though we mowed that lawn for another year and a half.

Or late Sixties China, when Red Guards ran amok. They harrassed my uncle to the point of suicide after they found out he had attended NC State for textile engineering (and actually liked the US). The incriminating evidence they used at his “self-criticism” sessions were photos on campus of him enjoying Big Band music and sports events. Apparently the red Wolfpack color didn’t win the little Commies over.

You don’t have to go back that far. It it the German Stazi of the 1980’s or the neighborhood “minders” in China who snoop on everyone and inform the government of “suspicious behavior”.

Everything about this administration reminds me of “1984”. I gasped when I heard they were thinking of coming up with a “Truth Commission.” It reminded me of the “Ministry of Truth” in “1984”.

Does anyone in the least doubt that this is Obama’s vision for his national youth core of ‘volunteers’ as well?

I don’t live in a “gated community” type, but within the city limits of my city. These are city code enforcement folks, and I know thats why they don’t want us to cut it, because now they have to wait til its over 12 inches tall to start charging again for the violation. I guess if they say anything directly to us, I will ask who will be taking care of the vermin and snakes that come onto my property when its let go, and who am I suing if my dog or kids get bit by something poisonous that we were working to prevent from coming in our yard by cutting the neighbors lawn.

I imagine many folks are dealing with this these days. I can remember a time where it would be considered neighborly to work with your neighbors and care for your neighborhood.....

So can I. Now we're supposed to sit back and watch their property deteriorate to the point it's unsafe so our political masters can fine them.

Send the bill for your pest control issues to code enforcement.
