WASHINGTON The Obama administration is expanding a program initiated by President George W. Bush aimed at checking the immigration status of virtually every person booked into local jails.
In four years, the measure could result in a tenfold increase in deportation proceedings against illegal immigrants who have been convicted of crimes, according to current and former U.S. officials.

deportation hearings, my left foot! It’s to expand the census.
>>This one just make ya wanna go ....Hmmm? <<
Almost too good to be true.
Yeah, you’re probably right. And all the “undocumented criminals” they find will be re-classified as “refugees”.
Pretty transparent to me. Obama is going to try to get an amnesty later this year. He has to be able to point to efforts to increase security and crackdown on criminal aliens. More propaganda as the amnesty planning begins.
So they can quickly give them “get out of jail free” cards. Of course they’ll simply return to the streets and do more crimes.
I guess they need to weed out the convicts before shoving 20 million more Democratic voters down the GOP’s throat.
What a bargain, I think they could do this for about $793 million, prolly cost $700-800 per inmate. Then again, there are all those pencils they’d have to buy, but those could be bought in bulk.
Keep in mind, this is to *check* their immig status. Nobody is talking about actually *doing* anything about whatever it is they find.
For that, they’d need about $2.3 billion and maybe 60K new government employees to conduct extensive hearings.
Then, they would send each illegal home in a gas guzzling, doomed SUV. There’s $200-$300 in gas and en-route McDonald’s cheeseburgers.
I think this could be done for about $3 billion hard costs and an annual payroll increment of about $5.5 billion.
The non-natives are a bit pissed.
Believe it when I see it ping.
Man, the propaganda is thick out there.
Why not check ‘em at the border, saves the cost for the middle man.
My county Sheriff catches about five a week and hands ‘em right over to ICE.
Too bad he’s retiring next year......
dittos ... you nailed it.
Seal the border.
“Probably, to interview them and see if they have been harassed or treated poorly. So Obama can give them citizenship and file civil rights lawsuits against law enforcement “
You may be right on that.
The way it’s SUPPOSED to work is that the guys from ICE look through the records of alien (i.e., non-citizen) inmates.
Conviction for certain crimes constitutes a basis for removal (deportation) from the US. If one of the aliens in custody has been convicted of such a crime (and there is a wide range), then the usual procedure is for ICE to put a “detainer” on the inmate, and the moment he finishes his sentence, ICE picks him up and puts him in immigration custody.
The alien may be able to post a bond and be released and then go before an Immigration Judge in the nearest big city, OR - depending on the conviction in question, and it could be for his most recent offense or one that occurred at any time - he is not allowed to post bond, and he stays in ICE custody while his removal case is pending before an Immigration Judge who holds court at that same facility. (Lancaster, CA, in the Antelope Valley is the closest one to where I’m sitting now).
Again, that’s how it’s supposed to work.
actually it makes me wanna go ... yawn. this is something that should have been done long ago and is probably not being done thoroughly enough to make a difference. besides, until the border is secure the ones that have been thrown out will just come back.
Another “fine, upstanding young man” who has been misunderstood...”he jus’ wont a better lif in Merca...”
LOL, jorge did it so he could get them their welfare benefits. I doubt this will be ant different. SAC OFF
Somebody will wine over that one!! LOL
I think it will be good to get a handle on what percentage of jailed criminals are here illegally. Numbers now, at best, are guesses.
How about checking every Home Depot's parking lot.
Also perhaps every drunk pissing in a Quickie Mart parking lot at 10am in the morning.
The ACLU and others have tried to block 287 [g] citing profiling and discrimination. It works in terms of stemming crimes and forcing the illegals to move. The success has been well-documented in Prince William County, Virginia.
BTW: This procedure only effects illegals with previously recorded fingerprints.
Tell me you don’t think they are actually going to do anything.
It’s all prelude to AMNESTY.
Pretty much everything put forward by the Obama admin is deceptive. (as, in this case, it was with Bush)
Yeah, Bush wasn’t so up front when it came to illegals either. That was the last straw for me with Bush.
It’s all window dressing for the sheep to be fed by the Pravda media. You watch, tonight they will all be talking crack down on illegal criminals.
“You watch, tonight they will all be talking crack down on illegal criminals.”
And all the OBL, pro-illegal groups will scream bloody murder in unison. Just like they planned.
