Posted on 05/27/2009 7:17:10 AM PDT by dubie
I'm slightly surprised that the White House press office gave out this image, from her 1976 Princeton yearbook, in which she quotes Norman Thomas.
Norman Thomas was, of course, the leading American Socialist politician of the 20th century. Perhaps they figured it would come out eventually so they wanted to be able to say, "That's old news. We thought it was so inconsequential, we mentioned it ourselves." Or perhaps they felt that substantively didn't matter; Norman Thomas was a pretty mainstream and respected figure, as socialists went. And his quote is universal. Or perhaps they didn't notice.

That quote doesn’t seem very earthshaking.
Gee whiz, another brainwashed Ivy Leaguer leftist f**kwit.
Does the term “extra-special person” set off the gaydar...or is it just me?
Who among the conservative ranks in the Senate have the guts to oppose nominee after nominee with the MSM hammering away day and night? God bless us.
I doubt that has a lot of smoking-gun potential. The quote itself isn’t explicitly socialist in nature, and she’ll claim that it was meant in a general, optimistic sort of little-engine-that-could way. She might even claim she didn’t know who Norman Thomas was and was just drawn to the quote when she read it.
Of course, Obama's yearbook entry quoted William Ayers, so ...
Shoot, just the photo's got my lesbo-meter twitching, but then yearbook pics tend to be sucky anyway, so I may be overreacting.
Shucks,.... I was expecting something like....”Socialismo por siempre...Viva Che!!!
Gee. She always was ugly.
So, was she supposed to run a security check on the man and get clearance before she quoted him?
By the same token, no conservative should be allowed to quote George Orwell, who was likewise a socialist.
The content of any given quote is of far greater import than the source of the quote (even supposing that it was known).
I think you’re right about the significance. It’s that she chose Thomas (grandfather of journalist Evan Thomas, I believe) at all from a universe of people from whom to quote.
All part of the King Obama takeover of America. Socialists, he!!, just another racist and will be another player in the communists run America.
I am not surprised. It’s more in your face from Obama and Company.
Would be cool if someone could compile a lexicon of quotes attributed by this radical for publication prior to her hearings.
We certainly cannot count on congress to dig this stuff up,
so sounds like we need to do their job for them like we do it for the press.
Orwell was different. Yes, he was a committed socialist, but he was a thinker and modified his views throughout his lifetime. He also hated communism with a passion. And he was British patriot who whole-heartedly supported his country in WWII.
LOL...I thought I was the only one with a “Lesbo meter”.
Mine’s been getting so much exercise lately the needle’s getting bent.
You may want to consider rephrasing that one....
I’ve always thought Orwell’s idealism changed a lot after his experience in the Spanish civil war...his excellent book, “Homage to Catalonia” pretty much expresses his view of war and honed his hatred for communism. I read it quite awhile ago, but as I recall he spent much of the book describing the political bent of the many, many, ideologies battling in that absurd war.
Spoken like the progressive kool aid drinker who just knows that the average reader has never read the older and wiser George Orwell.
Does that still work?
gaydar? I’m thinking she is gay and have been ever since she was nominated. Read her biography and read the tea leaves
Hey, she was pretty hot looking when she was younger!!
I just read that the gutless Sessions doesn’t see a GOP fight on this POS. I recommend millions of calls to this moron’s office.
“Hasta la victoria siempre” was the signoff used by Ernesto “Ché” Guevara in the last letter he wrote to Fidel Castro.
I understand what you're saying, but look at it another way: I'm making this up, but how's this for a quote for a yearbook --
"There's nothing I like better than helping people cool off on a hot summer's day!" -- Sheriff "Bull" Connors.
That's an innocuous quote, but if you know that Connors was famous for using firehoses against civil rights marchers, then the quote becomes less savory.
I guantee you that no one whose yearbook entry quotes David Duke or Bull Connors will ever get on the Supreme Court. Doesn't matter what the quote says.
Get thee to a reeducation center! Pronto!
Elections have consequences, that’s why I held my nose for McCain.
My gadar was set off yesterday. It was as strong as when I saw Adam Lambert on the first couple of episodes of Idol this year. The whole day, I’m thinking no mention of family, husband, kids. Kind of like when reports of a crime don’t mention the color of an assailant, the lack of words on the subject had me thinking she likes carpet.
It was the 70s, everybody was ugly in the 70s.
Since she was first ‘discovered’ by Ed Koch I would say your gaydar is working just fine.
Very activist. “
All I read into that particular quote was typical thing a college kid might say.
However I am sure she is extremely radical. Obama would not have made the pick if not.
She seems to not understand what the 2nd amendment is about for starters.
But again this is what the election was about; I assumed everyone expected we would get this with Obama winning.
She married Kevin Noonan in 1976. She divorced in 1983. No kids.
Maybe Perez Hilton will get a chance to ask her about her views on homosexual marriage?
I hear you. It's always said that guys back then went to demonstrations and peace rallies for the sole reason to pick up chicks. I could never understand their motivation because chicks back then were positively revolting and looked both dirty and diseased.
that’s it? I was expecting something more substantial. Like
“Baby I’ll be there to share the land that they’ll be giving away when we all live together”. Or “tune in, turn on, and don’t promote Whitey”.
There is no “s” in Connor (unless you mean Jimmy).
This quote won’t help us expose her. No way. Barking up the wrong tree.
IMHO, the thing that we have got to keep hammering away with, so far, is the VIDEO of her advocating judicial activism.
If the Pubes don’t grab onto this and use it, they are as useless and cowardly as we already know they are.
Its not the quote, its the quotee.
The operators manual clearly states that the mere watching of American Idol pushes the meter to the left ...
I was thinking “thank God I didn’t go to one of those colleges, and attended a State University.” Yikes.
Holy crap! How dumb to you have to be for a liberal to notice and object?
What do we know about her marriage, divorce and X-husband?
I know. But do you think this will have an impact on John Q. Public? You think she won’t squash this immediately by saying, “hey I just liked the quote?”
It’s not gonna persuade the average man on the street IMHO.
We need to hammer away at her BLATANT judicial activism, IMHO.
