Only brutal compulsion is left, and by publicly admitting to seriously considering "preventive detention" he shows an expectation that consent of the govern will give way, and by extention that the only course to maintaining his power is, indeed, brutal compulsion.
At this rate, his own party will remove him before 4 years are up. Biden may follow suit, and I doubt Pelosi will be Speaker then. So who's #4?

Yup. Not only that, but I can’t see the leftists rallying behind him. Joe Biden was as much help to the D ticket as John McCain was to the R ticket. People voted for either Obama OR Palin. The rest of the ticket was just there. Easily beatable in 2012.
