Posted on 06/12/2009 12:36:01 PM PDT by xtinct
At last, there is convincing evidence that Obamas poll numbers may be descending to earth. While his approval remains high and his personal favorability is even higher the underlying numbers suggest that a decline may be in the offing. Even as he stands on his pedestal, the numbers under his feet are crumbling.
According to a Rasmussen poll, more voters now trust Republicans more than Democrats to handle the economy, by a margin of 45-39. Scott Rasmussen notes that this is the first time in over two years of polling that the GOP has held the advantage on this issue. Last month, he had the Democrats holding a one-point lead, but they lost it in Junes polling.
And the Democratic leads over Republicans on their core issues are also dropping. Particularly interesting is the Democratic decline over healthcare, from an 18-point lead in May to only 10 points now.
A Gallup poll also confirms that the presidents personal ratings are high, but the underlying data less so. While 67 percent of voters give Obama personal favorable ratings and 61 percent approve of his job performance (Rasmussen has his job approval lower, at 55 percent), they give him much lower ratings on specific issues.
Gallup shows Obama getting only 55 percent approval on his handling of the economy (down from 59 percent in February) and finds that only 45 percent approve of his handling of federal spending while 46 percent approve of his treatment of the budget deficit.

Obama’s numbers will remain high for as long as the fed can prop up this crumbling building and maintain the illusion that things are ok and getting better.
But even they can’t do it forever. Ben can only play his illegal covert games propping up the markets for so long. When that collapses, and when gas and heating oils prices go back to $4/gal, all hell is going to break loose.
Ugh, the media persuades the sheeple that the economy is bad and it's the Republicans' fault when they are in power and the economy is good.
And now a mere six months after demons taking power, the sheep believe Republicans can do a better job?
Stupid, fickle idiots. Is there any wonder we're in the bind we're in today?
Stagflation is around the corner, and it's going to make '79 look good. I remember the Carter years, and I'm not looking forward to going back. These nitwits in the media keep saying things like, "the typical recession lasts for 12 months..." We have at least four more years of this, at least, unless the Republicans win the mid-terms and dramatically slash spending. So yup, four more years of this.
Too bad. You're a day late & a dollar short, America.
We tried to warn you, but you wanted that Kodak moment of a black man in the whitehouse.
When unemployment hits 10%, probably within 90 days and possibly in the very next report, there will be no where to hide.
I predict Obama will fire some of his financial guys when that happens to distract people. That won't give him much breathing room though.
His early poll numbers tracked right along with what Jimmy Carter had. The American people gave Carter until about summer to "fix" things, and when things continued to get worse his numbers tanked so fast it was mind-numbing.
You are also increasingly seeing cracks in the media's defenses of Obama. If things keep getting worse his media support will start to peel off, then the bottom will drop out.
All I hope is that his numbers tank before the nationalized health care and carbon tax bills gets rammed through congress.
That's why it was called Porkulus. Just an extremely large serving of Pork, to be delivered after the economy rebounded on its own.
Yup. All those idiot “make history” voters. Well, they are making more history with his policies.
Everything about him will crumble while the MSM tries to lie to the American people; Joseph Goebbel’s would be so proud of today’s MSM. When Zero goes down the toilet bowl, he will be taking his cohorts in the US Congress with him. They’re just too arrogant to acknowledge it yet.
Once again, “it’s the economy stupid”! He is doing this and he’s doing that while America bleeds jobs with no end in sight. As unemployment rises it effects more and more households his approval ratins all around are bound to bottom out.
Sorry, this doesn’t give me comfort...simply because it comes from Dick Morris. I don’t buy the guy’s potions—he just seems to, well, fake to me.
the MSM is propping up his “official” approval numbers through slight of hand. But signs are everywhere of White House panic over the real numbers in their internal polling.
At some point, the Messiah will become the Message...
I was seeing $6/gal projections a couple of weeks ago.
That reminds me, I need to get a gun carrier for my motorcycle.
He didn’t spend the stimulus money because he was trying to figure out how to funnel it to his cronies first. This has to be one of the most corrupt administrations ever and the media turns a blind eye. This AmeriCorps thing should become a scandal, but probably will be covered up. Just more Obama handing out YOUR money to his buddies who pony up hundreds of thousand back to his reelection campaign.
It already has for many of them, they are just too symptomatic to admit it.
It won't be long--they have never been adept at keeping a lid on their hatred and outrage. Remember, they are the ones waking up every morning to broken promises.
[But even they cant do it forever. Ben can only play his illegal covert games propping up the markets for so long. When that collapses, and when gas and heating oils prices go back to $4/gal, all hell is going to break loose.]
And it doesn’t take a very clear crystal ball to see that’s what will happen. The whole economy is being held up by air right now.
Is liberalism anti-intellectual?
By Dr. Ellis Washington
March 14th, 2009
Liberalism is wrong because it doesnt work.
If a company is too big to fail, its too big to exist.
~ George Will
On Thursday, conservative intellectual Laura Ingraham had writer George Will on her program discussing the Obama administration, the economy and society. As usual with Laura, the conversation was spirited, substantive and serious. In my opinion, Laura Ingraham is one of the finest interviewers in modern times, because in a few minutes she can with laser-like efficiency discern how to cut through all the cognitive dissonance and sophism to get at the important root issues she wishes to expose to her audience.
When the conversation shifted to the political philosophy of liberalism, George Will said something I thought was both simple and profound Liberalism is wrong because it doesnt work. As the subject moved to the dismal state of Wall Street, the American economy, rising unemployment and mega-corporations like AIG, Citigroup, Freddie Mac, Fannie Mae, GM, Ford and Chrysler on the verge of bankruptcy, George Will said, If a company is too big to fail, it is too big to exist.
Ive always admired and learned from George Will and his intellectual brand of conservatism. As a matter of fact, he is responsible for my modest makeover 20 years ago when I shaved my mustache, cut my hair and started wearing bowties. The two quotes above are quintessential George Will where he, better than most intellectuals, has the unique gift of synthesizing complex ideas with a seemingly simple phrase.
When Will told Laura, Liberalism is wrong because it doesnt work, I screamed in my heart, Yes! Why cant those dummkopfs in Congress prop up someone in front of a TV camera that can say this phrase with a degree of credibility? Instead we have the new Republican National Committee chairman, Michael Steele, running around trying to reach out to the hip-hop community, to the Hollywood community, to blacks, Hispanics, Asians, young voters and to feminists (via his recent clumsy comments on abortion).
Here is some unsolicited advice for you, Mr. Steele, Why dont you reach out to the damn conservatives!
Back to George Will and the ultimate question regarding liberals and liberalism: Is liberalism based on intellectualism, emotion or nihilism? Most conservative intellectuals like Ingraham and Will would contend that liberalism is anti-intellectual and is a political philosophy based on envy, emotionalism and nihilism. While I agree, I would add a fascism element to this characterization of liberalism that I gleaned from reading Jonah Goldbergs book, Liberal Fascism a marvelous book that elegantly chronicles the history of liberals love affair with fascism, which in its myriad incarnations in 20th century dictators like Mussolini, Lenin, Stalin, Hitler, Franco, Mao, Pol Pot, Kim Il-sung, Idi Amin and others demanded both total obeisance to the will of the Leader and an education system based on propaganda rather than truth.
As a case in point, look at how the Obama administration is handling Americas present economic collapse. Both Obama, his economic advisers, particularly his clueless treasury secretary, Tim Geithner, are clearly in over their heads and are doing everything they can but address the central issues that brought our economy into the catastrophic state we find ourselves. Instead, we hear talk of pouring more billions to keep mortgage insurer AIG from bankruptcy. Why would you pour more bad money after bad money? Because AIG is too big to fail.
George Will shot back and said: If a company is too big to fail, it is too big to exist. Will, like most conservatives, doesnt want government intervention into business no matter how well intentioned, because he knows that it will only delay the inevitable economic catastrophe and depression. Let the market cleanse itself. Yes, in the short term it will be painful because many companies will be forced into bankruptcy, but the arrogance and anti-intellectualism of liberalism demands that, Weve got to do something.
Enter stage left, President Obama the messiah and all of his little Marxist minions with their statistics, programs, spending plans, corporate statism and Italian and German-style fascism to save corporate America. Liberals and socialists in Congress cant run Medicare, Amtrak, the public schools, the post office or the city of Washington, D.C., efficiently; why would any rational person think that these 535 dummkopfs can effectively run corporate America?
Thats why I believe that liberalism is anti-intellectualism. Every policy created from its presumptions either have failed (Marxism, Keynesianism, Wilson-FDR-LBJ socialism), is failing (unionism, American exceptionalism, the Obama administration) or will soon fail (government welfare from Watts to Wall Street). Obama, a Harvard Law graduate isnt stupid. He and his army of Ivy-Leaguers realize that his policies are failing spectacularly. Here is where his Machiavellian side comes to the fore. I believe that Obama is purposely stimulating economic chaos rather than seriously trying to fix the economy. Why?
In a recent article, Obama: Manchild in the promised land, I wrote the following:
I have often stated in my own writings on law, politics and philosophy that before theory, before practice, there must be a pretext. Rahm Emanuel has clearly stated this shameless political pretext. [”You never want a serious crisis to go to waste.”] What is the serious crisis Emanuel doesnt want to go to waste? Well, its the downward spiral of economy. To a certified socialist like Obama who is a self-confessed admirer of FDR, a crisis, any crisis, is like pure gold misery = power.
Morals were first separated from politics in the writings of that infamous Italian political philosopher Niccolo Machiavelli, in his treatise on statecraft, The Prince (1513). One of the most famous quotes from that work is: The end justifies the means. The Obama administration is playing Machiavelli like a Stradivarius violin against Americas most sacred, vested interests. Anti-intellectualism, anarchy, nihilism and societal instability are Obamas means; an Orwellian police state where the Bible, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights are treated as toilet paper will be the end.
America, be not deceived. Under the pretext of an imminent economic depression, Obama will use the machinery of government to repress our God-given natural rights of the people on an unprecedented scale. Unless Obamas anti-intellectual, Marxist moves are stopped; this country will no longer be called USA but USSA the United Socialist States of America.
Ellis Washington, currently a professor of law and political science at Savannah State University, former editor at the Michigan Law Review and law clerk at The Rutherford Institute, is a graduate of John Marshall Law School and a lecturer and freelance writer on constitutional law, legal history, political philosophy and critical race theory. He has written over a dozen law review articles and several books, including The Inseparability of Law and Morality: The Constitution, Natural Law and the Rule of Law (2002). See his law review article Reply to Judge Richard Posner. Washingtons latest book is The Nuremberg Trials: Last Tragedy of the Holocaust.
Thanks for the heads up. I heard that interview with George Will. It was a great one.
We can especially thank 40 years of public skook educayshun...
And you had better believe you have to pay property or income taxes or be a veteran to vote in the new Republic.
Fix this one problem and virtually all the other ones will fix themselves.
And that is happening fairly rapidly. Gas is already approaching $3.00/g in many parts of the country, and that has happened in just a few short weeks. This, at a time when prices traditionally recede between Memorial day and July 4th.
When the Kenyan Usurper, 0sama0bamadingdong gets hot and heavy with this healthcare-for-illegals fiasco in the coming weeks, expect him to start seeing his road to hell! He already had his "I don't want to Socialize medicine" event yesterday, which sounds to me like the sentiment in the White House is not to healthy right now! This guy won with 52.9% of the vote. I would bet my next $1 million in earnings that at LEAST 3% of those who voted for this non-natural U.S.-born President have asked themselves "What the HELL..??!" by now!! (my guess is at least 7-10% have arrived there by now!)
Obama is like a car thats rusted out so bad only the paint is keeping it together.
And all everyone wants to do is keeping it painted white and shiny.
But under the glossy coat is crumbling flakes of corrosion that will bear no stress or load.
And although the engine still runs the car loses some of its structure with every bump in the road, every day another piece falls off, and soon all of a sudden it will collapse in upon itself and kill its occupants.
And America is paying the insurance.
“more voters now trust Republicans more than Democrats to handle the economy”
Can I vote neither of the above?
Remember, Dick Morris, Democrat Reprobate, was joined at the hip with Obama in the scandalous Odinga campaign in Kenya. Odinga is a jihadist, and a marxist. Please never forget that in the aftermath of The Obama, Odinga, Morris Campaign, Christians were massacred, churches burned, and a civil war threatened.
The Dick may also be under the aegis of George Soros to help scope out opposition to the Magic Marxist POTUS. Don't believe a word the guy says.
And Sean Hannity, that goes double for you, me fine broth of a lad. What were you thinking of doing with this left-wing scumbag besides helping him sell his book?
