Very probably the best scenario we could hope for.
Other scenarios haved played, and fizzled out, time and time again.
I have no doubt that those born and raised under the shackles of Islam are full of rage.
The central question is: rage against what?
Each other. They are a tribal society. Plenty of hatred amongst them. Iranians are not Arabs and there is still plenty of hatred there. I’m a peaceful guy, but when I see enemies of the US ripe for ripping each other’s throats out, I say got for it.
No confirmation on this but it sounds like something the Mullahs would do.
There is not one country there that wishes us any good, and I include Kuwait.
When are the civilians going to start firing back?
By "right" & "right wing" does he mean folks who believe in individual liberties, and limited government, like America's "right?" That doesn't seem to fit - maybe he actually means "left" & "left wing:" statists who believe in government control, and rights based on race, religion, union membership, etc.
He predicted that the so-called reformist camp -- who are not exactly humanists in the Western liberal sense...
In the "Western liberal sense," 'reformists' are folks like Obama, who want to "reform" (i.e., increase the cost of, and limit access to) health care, "reform" (i.e., make more restrictive, with regard to individual freedoms) our so-called 'gun control' laws, and "reform" (i.e., eliminate the right to secret ballots) the voting process related to union representation.
Looks to me like the homicidal fascists currently controlling Iran are more akin to 'Western liberals' or 'progressives'...
the good old leftist lie that despots are “the right.”
“when I see enemies of the US ripe for ripping each others throats out, I say go for it.”
Absolutely. I’m always in favor of our enemies eating each other. Less for us to have to deal with later.
Iran officials called twitter and told them the block feature of twitter wasn't working. What is happening is they are using proxies and other tricks to go around the government censorship of twitter.
I find it interesting that CNN would rather talk about Sarah Palin and Letterman than to cover what might turn out to be a full blown revolution. Don't want to hurt Bozo's image I would guess.
Unstrung: RT @persiankiwi apparently there is running battles in tehran uni right now. i can hear shooting on the phone line. #Iranelection Twitter - 34 secs ago
My goodness! I thought our brilliant leader was just telling us how wonderful things were over there in Iran regarding this election, since his great speech! (sarc)
roprice: RT @persianwiki students being killed in tehran uni dorm in amirabad right now. this must stop, ahmadinejad must stop. #Iranelection Twitter - 49 secs ago
Yeah, he was, but that was when he thought the other guy was going win. He was going to claim credit for hope and change in Iran, but now he is looking pretty stupid. The MSM isn’t reporting on the riots much and I would suspect because of his asinine statement Friday about how he fixed everything in Iran!
Why would Obama support a right-wing coup? Can't believe Olberman is even interested in Iran.
I’m sure bo is “not to be disturbed” til after the nba game tonight tho. You know...priorities!
It does make sense if the mullahs are falling into factions, fighting over dwindling shares of loot from oil revenues.
“Maybe someone will actually cover the news tomorrow, eh?”
They can’t - Obummer hasn’t given them permission, or their talking points. They are incapable of independent thought or action.
petegaines: RT @persiankiwi: internet very slow. dialup only. no facebook, no bbc, cnn nothing. even arab stations blocked. #Iranelection Twitter - 2 mins ago
I kinda think he had something to do with Bozo shooting his mouth off about how he solved all the problems in Iran and had started a "robust(snicker) dialog" between the factions, trying to grab credit. I don't think the Mullahs could let that stand so at the last minute they rigged the elections. I think Mousavi was actually supposed to win until that point. Just some speculation on my part and probably means nothing.
What a nightmare for those poor people. How frustrating it must be to have their avenues of communication blocked, and be under fire from their own govt. What’s scary is that I believe that the left in our own government would love to be able to do the same to us.
How would things be different if Mousavi had won the election? I know very little about him.
We live in interesting times.
I believe the people know this, but they are so pi**ed at having the election blatantly ripped out of their hands so that even the semblance of democracy was taken away from them that they just exploded.
That happens when you have been ground under the government thumb for 30 years(since 1979, thanks to Carter)and I think it just came to a head, and POW, you have a riot and possible revolution.
Oobama will send Joe Biden and Jimmy Carter in to talk to them, nicely.
Unfortunately, that probably isn't the case in the United States...
We sure do. I calls it the best of times and the worst of times. Quoting Churchill, I think.
I’ve been hearing this same crap since 1979.
Isn’t “may you live in interesting times” a chinese curse?
If they rig the election, the govt becomes illegitimate and the citizen have the responsibility to take the law into their hands. My gut tells me that this is what’s coming in 2012, which is why there is no network coverage of what’s going on. The world is turned upside down when Persians have a better sense of Democracy than does Americans.
can we just call him BOOBama from now on?
Why the color green. Where does the significance arise from?
Green is the color associated with Islam.
That is some fine “robust debate” Harry.
Check out the flag of Libya for example. All green in honor of its Islamic roots. Muhammad is quoted as saying “water, nature and a pretty face are good things” or some such. Nature is green.
Thanks calex, re: info on Mousavi. IYO is there a leader for Iran. Is there much hope for the late Shah’s son?
I don’t think so. I think if they pull off their “revolution” they will still be stuck with the Mullahs, unfortunately.
Per news.gooya.com, at least 15 students were severely wounded Sunday after clashes with police at a Tehran University dormitory. Shots were fired and the casualties could be much higher.
You cannot fight guns with books.
I don’t care for the writer’s use of the word ‘right’ in describing the current Administration in Tehran.
To compare the oppressive regime in Iran with the Right in the USA is appalling.
Oil at $100 in 4..3..2...
A Tale Of Two Cities.
“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to heaven, we were all going direct the other way - in short, the period was so far like the present period, that some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only.”
Book 1, Ch. 1.
Thanks, CA. Doesn’t sound so different from today, does it?
That’s okay with me. He sure is one big one.
Ya got me...
Obama is the worst of the old criticism of US policy. He is merely for the status quo.
He retreated from President Bush’s policy about freedom for ALL. The old cynicism about the ME is deader than dead re: Iraq. Even with their issues, they are building a Republic.
And others in the region are asking, “If Iraq can, why not us?”
Thus the Cedar Revolution in Lebanon, etc. But Obama sits by and will not “impose” our God given rights of freedom on others.
Loser!!!! Obama is a loser. And he sits by without a word of praise for Iranians dying for freedom. Nary a word on their behalf.
You think Reagan would sit by and say nothing about that?
