DEATH OF AN ICON
Associated Press ^ | updated 1 hour, 33 minutes ago | Associated Press

LOS ANGELES - Michael Jackson, defined in equal parts as the world’s greatest entertainer and perhaps its most enigmatic figure, was about to attempt one of the greatest comebacks of all time. Then his life was cut shockingly — and so far, mysteriously — short.

My secretary had all the details of this BS this morning, and I knew nothing of it until 10am!! My response to her was, “I think that the country going to hell in a handbasket is a tad more important to me right now”!

The family has announced that since Michael was already 90 percent plastic, they will be melting him into Legos so little boys can play with him for a change.

"Then his life was cut shockingly — and so far, mysteriously — short."

I don't know about the mysterious part...between the skin bleachings, countless surgeries, flaming hair, hyperbaric chambers and who knows what combinations of pharmaceuticals he subjected himself to over the past few decades, I'd say the only big mystery is how he managed to survive as long as he did.

Yes, the icon of the gay pedophile community has departed. I did like some of his music but as a person he was disgusting.

To all: according to his peers in a court of law, he was found not guilty. He was a unique, fascinating star... and the best entertainer to come along since Elvis. He gave his life to the public...may he rest in peace.

C’mon, FOX. Get back to work!

What I find bizarre, is the incredible amount of debt. It has been reported that his debt is in excess of 500 million, which is equal to his entire lifetime of earning. This has to be some kind of record, to burn through a full billion dollars in a short 50 year life. Wow.

There are more important issues to be concerned with right now: Cap-and-Tax, Obamacare, Amnesty...etc.

These things concern America's future far more than the death of a troubled pop singer.

When was he last relevant? 20 years ago? He’s been a sideshow act since then. This has about as much impact on pop culture as Clara Bow’s death in 1965. Both were once stars who had outlived their fame.

Death of an icon? Or death of a country by a thousand cuts while addle-brained celebrity watchers worship at the alter of a dead singer—ignoring what is going on in Iran, North Korea, and what congress is doing in our country? It isn’t just that Nero (Obama) is fiddling. Everyone is. And our country is suffering.

Sorry, an icon is an image of a saint.

This man was a vile pederast who was ruined by his ridiculous fame-seeing family as a very young child. I have trouble mustering much sympathy for him.

May God have mercy on his soul.

I agree. There was ZIP on the news last night except all Michael Jackson all the time. I liked his music, but I think far too many Americans get so caught up in celebs it’s almost scary. There are so many more important things going on, and I don’t care if people talk about it, and feel sad (I do, he was very talented but had a troubled life) but goodness, our country is getting a big bad dose of Hopey/Change and all of the so called news stations (including Fox) could talk of nothing but this? Wow....

Got these in and email this AM ... and I concur:

Linky Thing: to the quote below

He is dead at the age of 50. He had everything the world offered--but no Jesus.

I remember once looking at the liner notes from an album of his, and he quoted the final lines from William Ernest Henley's famous poem, Invictus:

I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

Those are not the words you want written on your tombstone.

It is hard to think of a sadder public figure in recent years. A black man who never found his identity as one created in God's image, and who never experienced the identity of being conformed to the image of Christ. Black and white, male and female, rich and bankrupt, genius and punchline, private and public, innocent and deceptive--everything seemed to be jumbled up.

The one thing that comes to mind about Jackson is how bad he was at hiding his brokenness. Even while living in a literal fantasy land, it was obvious to everyone that this was a person--enormously gifted--desperately seeking a mask to cover, in futility, who he was.

May God use even this to increase our compassion and ministry to the lost, broken, and confused.

and ... from Andrew Sullivan:

There are two things to say about him. He was a musical genius; and he was an abused child. By abuse, I do not mean sexual abuse; I mean he was used brutally and callously for money, and clearly imprisoned by a tyrannical father. He had no real childhood and spent much of his later life struggling to get one. He was spiritually and psychologically raped at a very early age - and never recovered. Watching him change his race, his age, and almost his gender, you saw a tortured soul seeking what the rest of us take for granted: a normal life.

But he had no compass to find one; no real friends to support and advise him; and money and fame imprisoned him in the delusions of narcissism and self-indulgence. Of course, he bears responsibility for his bizarre life. But the damage done to him by his own family and then by all those motivated more by money and power than by faith and love was irreparable in the end. He died a while ago. He remained for so long a walking human shell.

I loved his music. His young voice was almost a miracle, his poise in retrospect eery, his joy, tempered by pain, often unbearably uplifting. He made the greatest music video of all time; and he made some of the greatest records of all time. He was everything our culture worships; and yet he was obviously desperately unhappy, tortured, afraid and alone.

I grieve for him; but I also grieve for the culture that created and destroyed him. That culture is ours' and it is a lethal and brutal one: with fame and celebrity as its core values, with money as its sole motive, it chewed this child up and spat him out.

"I'd say the only big mystery is how he managed to survive as long as he did."

What I find strange is why his "personal physician" was already at the home trying to revive him when the paramedics came.

Heart attack my @. No doubt in my mind he OD'd. Probably too much oxycontin. The 50 year old wacko -Jacko was after all, trying to become the dancing whiteboy wonder again for his final tour. That had to of been hurting.
