Reparations Disclaimer on Slavery Apology Stirs Backlash Among House Dems
Foxnews ^ | 6/29/2009 | Staff

A disclaimer at the end of this month's Senate resolution offering an apology for slavery deals with the touchy issue of reparations, and is causing some dissension among House Democrats that may prevent the two chambers from coming together on the measure.

The disclaimer says: "Nothing in this resolution (A) authorizes or supports any claim against the United States or (B) serves as a settlement of any claim against the United States."

That means the resolution cannot be used by descendants of slaves to sue the government for reparations or payments to compensate for slavery.

The language has irritated some members of the Congressional Black Caucus.

"I would not want to have any language in place that would deny anyone, any citizen, the right to address a grievance," said Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, D-Texas.

"I feel that some method other than just an apology should be made. People should be made whole," Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., said.

As a Republican and a Northerner, I say if the Southerners and the Democrats want to apologize and potentially pay reparations for slavery, let ‘em. I’m not apologizing or paying for anything.

Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee should fall on her knees every morning to thank God that her great-great-whoever got here someway and she isn't living like Obama's relatives in Kenya!

The best argument against reparations is how far an African-American can rise in the USA compared to the children his bigamist father had in Africa.

And I demand an apology and reparations for the mental anguish and agony my grandparents had to endure at the hands of all non-Eastern European people who picked on them because they were Polish. I feel a great gap in my life because of what they endured.

A ‘suitable’ amount of bucks should make it right! I’ll ‘feel whole’ then. I’ll let you know how much ‘suitable’ is.

Come to think of I, then there’s my Irish granny on my daddy’s side. You know how those Irish were discriminated against. Just write me out another check and it will all be good - until I need more money, that is....

Hey, I’m getting tired of paying for everything. Maybe I’ll pack up and leave the country. At least then I’ll get some peace.

People should be made whole," Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., said

Section 2 of the 14th Amendment made blacks whole by eliminating the three fifths rule.

Or maybe I’ll run for Congress and join the White Caucus.

Good!

That lets them properly focus on suing the real culprits. Those who were the actual slavers and opponents of civil rights legislation for 100 years...

The RATs!

I would pay Rasmussen myself to include a few questions on this topic in his polling. This poll would make news real quick.

Q1) What percentage of Obama supporters support monetary reparations.

Q2) And how much money do they feel they should receive

Bennie, ol' buddy, ol' pal, a person who believes they are owed some kind of reparations for what their great-great-great grandparents may have suffered can never be "made whole".

There is something missing inside them...

They want reparations? OK, we will pay to send any descendent who was brought from Africa to America to become a slave back to Africa.

All they have to do is tell us the country in Africa they were from and the tribe they belonged to.

So how much do you figure the descendents of American slaves should have to pay the US Government for ending slavery?

Yeah, I have been wondering about that. some of my ancestors fought on the side of the Union, I think I am owed back reparations for the time, money, limbs lost etc. that was never paid to my ancestors for fighting in the war that freed the slaves.

Sounds like Honduras would be the place to go, since they seem to value freedom and hate communism. I would make sure they know you didn't vote for Bozo though!

I suggest the Democrats give them a figure and see if that is agreeable to them to pay back to the US government for ending slavery. Bet that’s the last we hear from them.

I will gladly vote to reinstate those who wish to be "made whole". We should furnish a luxury cruise to their homelands, one way. maybe we can recruit the former slave traders to give guided tours upon arrival. They are mostly African kin. The Europeans just bought the commodity.

If you want to be an AFRICAN, leave America out of it! The same for Mexicans, Italians, Poles, Morrocans, British, Irish, etal! There is but one America. United we stand... and right now seem to be in free fall.
