Palin E-mails Show Infighting With Staff
CBS News ^ | July 1, 2009 | Scott Conroy & Susshannah Walshe

Posted on 07/01/2009 5:51:41 PM PDT by Al B.

Internal campaign e-mails exchanged three weeks before Election Day offer a rare look at just how frustrated then Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin had become with the manner in which top McCain campaign aides were handling her candidacy. The e-mails, obtained exclusively, also highlight the power struggle and thinly veiled acrimony that pervaded the relationship between Palin and the campaign's chief strategist, Steve Schmidt.

The episode in question began when an investigative report published on the left-leaning Web site Salon.com raised questions about Palin's relationship with members of the Alaska Independence Party (AIP) when she was mayor of Wasilla. The AIP's platform calls for a vote giving Alaskans the option to secede from the United States. It had already been widely known that Todd Palin was a registered member of the AIP from 1995 to 2002 and that Governor Palin had taped a recorded greeting at the party's 2008 convention.

On the morning of Oct. 15, Palin was aboard her campaign jet and en route to New Hampshire when she happened to catch a disparaging CNN segment that touted the Salon.com story, complete with a provocative graphic at the bottom of the screen reading, "THE PALINS AND THE FRINGE."

The problem with this moron Steve Schmidt is that every other letter in his last name is camoflage to disguise his real name.

ROFLMAO!

Considering the way they are acting right now I honestly don’t care what she said to them.

I really hate everyone in Washington right now.

OK. Reading this story....I’m with Sarah. Even more convinced that McCain’s campaign was run by nincompoops

McCain lost because the economy went in the tank. Simple as that. But having said that, his campaign was still in most respects bad.

I am a little bit neutral on Palin, I like her but I want to see her toast Gibson and a few other “reporters”. the best way for her to do this is to put them ill at ease, running down an Ice road with them sitting next to her with brown spots in their pants. Watching palin’s husband snowmobile race with hollowing winds and -20 temps, or out on the sea in a fishing boat with the waves and wind all but turning the ship inside out. She really does have to do better at out running the big dog reporters....I think she can do it and I defend her while she tries, see my post about her getting the sitting duck award...We can't do it for her she has to do it like when she stuffed Letterman...

If CBS had ever put this kind of effort into vetting Obama, I believe we’d have a different president today.

Nincompoops had more brains than the Mclame campaign. It was awful here in Florida. Multiple trips to Miami and none to broward or Palm Beach, fights for volunteers to be poll watchers and in the precincts that mattered, it was horrible.

Sarah earned her time. I am behind her 100%. The others need to go lick their wounds in private and leave her out of it. Clearly they did not ask for her imput. Don’t blame the bloodletting on Sarah...that is all for McLame to own.

She’s the one person that mainstream media & demoncRATS are scared poopless. Therefore, they’re going to trash her as much as possible to keep that fear alive.

It does show how parochial Schmidt is. No state has as much of its terrritory controlled by the Federal government, thereby so limiting the resources of the state to a degree. The Party that Todd Palin belonged to is a protest party, a “white version” of La Raza. Recall how bent out of shape people got when Gov. Rick Perry half-seriously dropped the word “secession.” Texas also has a fedeling of separate identity not felt by
“consoldidated. “ states such as New York. Rootless guys like Schmidt(or McCain) have no concept of “states rights.” and they don’t understand how people from such “backward” places as Alaska could take such pride in their home states.

If this is the best Schmidt has, then Palin has nothing to worry about. Oh, and I’m positive that she has kept every one of her emails she wrote and was sent during the campaign, too, so Schmidt better hope he hasn’t written anything incriminating that just might get accidentally leaked.

I understand that they see Sarah Palin as their number one threat, but the election was last year and the 2010 and 2012 elections are a long way away. Why is this coming out now? I suppose they want to keep dropping negative stories about Palin and family to keep her negatives fresh in the thoughts of voters, but what if there is something else going on? obama has a LOT of negatives in the works right now as well. Do the media see/know about something that we don't know just yet?

A. No CBS until Letterman and Couric are gone.

B. Where do I sign up to work for Palin?

It’s called a pre-emptive strategy-basically don’t let her campaign get off the ground.

From 1976-1980 Carter and his team felt that the nomination of Reagan would give them the least problem. And we know what happened there.

Obama and Axelrod and their minions are determined not to make the same mistake twice-thus the daily effort to marginalize and destroy Sarah Palin.

Agreed. Politician/Senator McCain sucks, no question, but President McCain would have had competent people around him and either they or he would have been pushing policies to move us away from the direction we're heading in now.

For example, there is NO WAY Sotomayor would be the SC nominee in waiting, NK wouldn't be f'ing with us with their July 4th threat and it took McCain's response to get obama to come up with his own condemnation of Iran's actions.

McCain is no obama and sadly for us, obama isn't as good as McCain.

I want to laugh, but saying someone is better than Obama is “Damning with Faint Praise”!

I still cannot believe our country elected him. Just cannot get my head around that.

Well they've been at it now for what, 10 months? Hasn't worked yet.

What concerned me about this article is that it seems to be a ratcheting up of the campaign to take her down. They're leaking the internal campaign emails of a candidate for VP, for crying out loud. That's certainly a new one on me.

These people are capable of anything....anything.
