GOVERNOR PALIN ANNOUNCES NO SECOND TERM, NO LAME DUCK SESSION EITHER
State of Alaska Governor's Office ^ | 3 July 2009 | State of Alaska Governor's Office

GOVERNOR PALIN ANNOUNCES NO SECOND TERM NO LAME DUCK SESSION EITHER July 3, 2009, Anchorage, Alaska – Governor Sarah Palin announced today that she will not seek a second term as Governor of the State of Alaska and will relegate the power of governor to Lieutenant Governor Sean Parnell in order to serve Alaska’s best interests. Lieutenant General Craig Campbell will move into Parnell’s current role.

“People who know me know that besides faith and family, nothing's more important to me than our beloved Alaska,” said Governor Palin. “Serving her people is the greatest honor I could imagine.” Standing outside her home in Wasilla, Alaska, Governor Palin reflected upon some of the administration’s accomplishments for Alaska as she approaches her final year in office. “I am determined to take the right path for Alaska even though it is not the easiest path,” said Governor Palin after the announcement. “Once I decided not to run for re-election, I also felt that to embrace the conventional ‘Lame Duck’ status in this particular climate would just be another dose of ‘politics as usual,’ something I campaigned against and will always oppose. It is my duty to always protect our great state. With that in mind, my family and I determined that it is best to make a difference this summer, and I am willing to change things, so that this administration, with its positive agenda, its accomplishments, and its successful road to an incredible future, can continue without interruption and with great administrative and legislative success. I look forward to helping others – to fight for our state and our country, and campaign for those who believe in smaller government, free enterprise, strong national security, support for our troops, and energy independence.” The transfer of power will occur following the Governor’s picnic in Fairbanks on July 26. At that point in time, Lieutenant Governor Sean Parnell will be sworn in and Lieutenant General Craig Campbell will assume his role as Lieutenant Governor. Governor Palin will spend July 4th in Juneau.

Oh yeah. It is so much better to waste taxpayer money. She spends most of her time defending herself and not running the state.

She gave in - could not take it....is how it will appear no matter what occurred.

Au contraire. She just freed herself to go after her detractors hammer and tong.

It also frees her to start campaigning for Republican, and possibly even Independent Congressional Candidates for 2010. She's already proven she's a fundraising magnet, and candidates will be happy to have her join them on the campaign trail.

And quitting before her first term is even finished is not the answer.

From here on out, the media will make note of her attending various political functions, fundraisers and speeches, and will then ask, if she is able to do all this, then why could she even complete her first term as governor...?

And, yes, they will have a point.

I believe the people of Alaska, having seen the carp thrown at her since Aug. 29th, in the form of the unending ethics complaints, will understand completely. She said it in her speech. She and her staff are spending inordinate amounts of time, and the State is paying for that time, in fighting that silliness. Just saying she's not running for re-election wouldn't stop that, in fact, they'd come at her even more, knowing that it's likely she'll run for President, and wanting to poison the water as much as possible.

She is doing JUST the right thing.

Trust me, the MSM will NOT let the American people forget this. They will remind the public every chance they get.

No. they won't, because with her being a private citizen, she won't be subject to the ethics complaints tied to her office, so she won't be costing the taxpayers of AK money in fighting them.

It has nothing to do with the use of her TIME as Gov., it was simply the fact of her existing, that caused the folks to file complaints.

No, they won’t.

They are and will forget that she was not being effective as Gov because of all the attacks. She believes Alaska deserves better. Did you hear her speech? She was spending to much time defending herself and not running the state. It was wasting millions of taxpayer dollars.

This way the Lt Gov can get time as Gov and then get reelected.

It was an honorable thing to do.

Frankly, that's debatable. In the short term, you might have a point.

But in the long run, in terms of Presidential aspirations in '12, or '16, this will definitely be an albatross around her neck.

If she really has Presidential aspirations for '12 or '16, then she has to think of the long term.

Yes, the ethics complaints were a problem, but at least finish her first term. That's what Reagan and Bush would have done under the circumstances.

Quitting, at this point, wasn't the answer.

No, they won’t.

Yes they will.

If she thought she was getting too much heat up to this point, it is nothing compared to what she is going to get if, and when, she finally throws her hat into the Presidential ring.

Of that, the Chicago thugs like David Axelrod, and Rahm Emanuel, will make absolutely certain. Bank on it.

And quitting a Presidential campaign, in the middle of summer, will not be an option.

Sarah made it clear why she was leaving early. To stay in office, after deciding not to run for re-election would only embolden those who had been filing complaints since Aug. of 2008. She didn't think it right to waste the taxpayers' money fighting those complaints, because any use of her or her staff's time would have done just that. If she had to spend half her time fighting complaints, she didn't use that time profitably for the state.

Given those same circumstances, I think Reagan and Bush would have done EXACTLY the same thing.

The attacks on her and her family were not the main reason for her quitting. The costs involved for the citizens of Alaska from the frivilous lawsuits were the main reason. Having herself freed from public office now gives her the chance to go out and start fighting against those attacks. The MSM is used to beating up on Republicans without reply. I believe it is THEY who will be surprised when Sarah starts fighting back.

Did you hear or read her speech?

She never said it was to hard or she thought she was getting too much heat up to this point. Never said it was to much on her family. Nothing about quiting.
She was spending to much time defending herself and not running the state. It was wasting millions of taxpayer dollars. It was honorable to resign.

And she said she was to fight on. To “take a stand.”

It appears to me, however, that if she cannot hold the job of governor because of the heat, she doesn't get to the bigger kitchen.

Maybe the 'bigger kitchen' doesn't have anything to do with it, and I certainly wouldn't blame her, the point of my post being let's just wait and see, as there is much speculation about why she has done this and no concrete answer yet. The hyperventilators are sucking out all the oxygen and it's hard to breathe...*gasp*

I believe it is THEY who will be surprised when Sarah starts fighting back.

I think they are more afraid of her today than they were yesterday.

She threw down the gauntlet to the media and anyone else who tries to tear her down. There were many good segments in her speech, but the following is one of my favorites.

“... Productive, fulfilled people determine where to put their efforts, choosing to wisely utilize precious time... to BUILD UP.

And there is such a need to BUILD up and FIGHT for our state and our country. I choose to FIGHT for it! And I’ll work hard for others who still believe in free enterprise and smaller government; strong national security for our country and support for our troops; energy independence; and for those who will protect freedom and equality and LIFE... I’ll work for and campaign for those PROUD to be American, and those who are INSPIRED by our ideals and won’t deride them.”

Given those same circumstances, I think Reagan and Bush would have done EXACTLY the same thing.

You have got to be kidding.

Reagan and Bush would have seen it through to the end of the term, if doing nothing else. Because they fully understood that quitting in the middle of your first term simply gives your enemies a big fat victory on a bright silver platter. In the end, they would have known better than to do that.

All these idiots that have been filing these complaints can legitimately claim a big victory.

From this point forward, her detractors will claim that she really couldn't defend herself from the corruption charges and decided that it was best to simply "cut and run". She wasn't even able to complete her first term in Alaska, so she's "damaged goods".

And all this talk about "not wanting to waste the taxpayers' money" is basically an excuse.

That is exactly how this is going to be portrayed over the next couple of years.

M, don’t despair.

We need EVERY one in this fight.

In my corner of the world, 200 people changed the political landscape on Tuesday.

They went to a town hall meeting held by Mike Castle, R-DE of Delaware, here in little old Georgetown, DE. It was supposed to be about healthcare.

Georgetown is the County Seat of Sussex County, which is a conservative, GOP area of DE, in the southern area of the state.

It turned into 2 and a half hours of non stop criticism of him for his “yes” vote on Cap n Scam.

He was shell shocked, for he has never been treated like that, and he is a former Governor of DE, the most popular politician in DE. He had aspirations of running for Senate next year for Biden’s seat.

He was a changed man after Tuesday. And so was the perception of him in DE.

All because of 200 people who made the time to come out and confront him on a Tuesday morning on very short notice.

I was one of them, M.

I got up that day and resolved to go to that meeting, which I thought was going to be another lovefest for Castle. I was determined to confront him on his globull warming beliefs, even if I was the only one, and I did after the meeting one on one.

DE’s two Dem Senators now realize that this is going nowhere in DE, and they better not vote for it.

We are keeping the pressure on.

A few people made a difference.

Now Sarah is going to make a difference, even if she does it alone.( we won’t let THAT happen! She will have our help).

That sleepless night thingie—I have had those this year. And when I heard the news say that Sarah was resigning, I was almost despondent.

But then I watched her announcement and saw her demeanor, and I know she is not defeated—she is just getting started. She is shedding the shackles that bind her for the greater good—God bless her!

Besides, you are on a mission too—to see the day when Greg Craig is on the business side of a jail cell.

No matter where we are in the world, we are Americans.

We’re going to show the closet Muslim on the White House what “Yes, we can!” REALLY means.

Happy Fourth to you, M!
