Sarah Palin finished in Alaska, but DC?
The Chicago Tribune ^ | July 3, 2009 | Mark Silva

Posted on 07/03/2009 2:23:57 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is stepping down, announcing suddenly today that will she pursue other means of having an impact in the public arena, fueling speculation about her intentions for another bid for national office.

Palin will step down before her first term is finished, resigning as of July 26 -- while not offering a clear reason for her withdrawal. Having decided not to seek a second term, she said she did not want to remain as a "lame duck'' simply wasting taxpayer money with trade missions and the like.

"I know when it's time to pass the ball,'' said Palin, almost tearfully announcing that she would hand the office over to the lieutenant governor. "All I ask is that you trust me with this decision,'' she said, allowing that it's "no more politics as usual...

"Some are going to question the timing of this,'' she said.in an impromptu news conference at her home. "This decision has been in the works for a while.''

Standing with her husband and children at their lakeside home in Wasilla, their seaplane docked behind them, she said that a recent visit to wounded soldiers overseas had helped her make the decision. "We can all learn from our selfless troops,'' she said.

"We've got to put first things first.... I'm doing what's best for Alaska,'' she said, citing a family refrigerator magnet that suggests not trying to explain anything because critics won't believe it anyway.

The Republican former mayor of Wasilla and self-styled "hockey mom'' and political "pitbull" remains popular among the most conservative base of the party that nominated her for vice president in 2008. She carries high negative ratings among the general public, however, according to the latest polls, questioning the role she might play in another party ticket for 2012.

“DRAFT BARBOUR 2012!”

Barbour wouldn’t even criticize Sanford for disappearing for a week. Barbour is great if you want just another RINO/GOP insider. The country doesn’t.

Experience for one and she could see how WDC operates.

What if Sarah Palin leaves the Republican Party
and aligns herself with the American Independent Party

Today would be a very signifiant day to seek independence.

A TEA party for Independence from the Vichy Republicans.

-- I would like her to become a senator first and then run for the presidency later. She's too good to lose. --

I hope she does what's best for her. Clearly, she enjoys the political scene, and in that arena, I think the position she is in NOW is no weaker than the one she was in before. All of the establishment pols, both parties, were gunning for her, either way.

I disagree that Senate/President is the best path. She should stay away from Congress - there are only half a dozen decent senators, and their efforts are totally washed out by the established vipers. I think DeMint, Coburn, Sessions and Inhofe would be well-served to resign and influence the government from outside the Senate. They are nothing but pariahs on the inside.

I wish she would go on a nationwide speaking tour and rip the cap and tax bill and the health care bill. She would make back the money she lost on all the investigations and she would be a voice that would be heard. In fact, she is probably the only voice the MSM would cover.

This could do enormous good it done correctly.

The best thing Sarah could do for our country is to go for Obama’s jugular. Pound him nationally on his Marxism, his Unconstitutional policies. She knows energy policy. She knows Cap ‘n Trade will destroy our economy. We need someone to go publically go after him and expose him as the wannabe tyrant he is.

Become a senator? What possible benefit would swimming in sewage have for her? We need to drain the swamp that is Washington. The whole lot of them have become self serving prima donnas that think we are their servants.

Whatever the outcome, the crowing over her being a “quitter” from the Dims and their allies in the Country Club Northeastern Republican set is already vomit inducing. Politics is repulsive.

When are the Republicans going to wake up and see that the only way to win is to play as dirty as the pond-scum liberals do? I'm afraid the old cliche about nice guys finishing last is all too true.

Strange how the title of the article suggests she’s a failure in Alaska, when the truth is the exact opposite.

I just think she lost about half of her 7/2/09 national supporter base, and made it impossible to win national office, since she didn't complete the job she signed up for. And this is horrible.

DRAFT BARBOUR 2012!

So when she proves you wrong by fighting for the nomination in 2012 and winning it are you going to admit your wrong?

Quit because she can’t do a good job for Alaska which she loves. How many governors promised that if elected they would NOT run for a higher office and right away did that very thing and was spent all of their time away campaigning and it had no effect on their chances to win.

I live in Ak, first met Palin around 94, talked to her this spring, mid May, when she visited our community after the ice out flood on Yukon; same Sarah Palin. She's just getting her game together for Pres run in 2012; I can't figure all these talking heads on TV, pretty simple actually.

Every dem in Ak have been hounding her over her national ambitions for the last year or so, saying she is short changing Alaskans when she should be doing her gov duties. Palin is giving Sean Parnel a shot at showing Alaskans he can be a great governor, smarrt move; republican party should be kissing Palin's butt after all the dirt they done to her over the years. Sarah's setting Parnel up to win governors race; kinda how it works in Ak; remember Murkowski's daughter, she is still a senator from Ak.

When Sarah was her in Eagle, meeting everybody; we talked about the MatSu and old political movers and shakers for a minute; a few laughs; she really howled when I told her she was going to be the first women Pres in USA. I gave her a gal ziplock bag of moose & caribou dry meat; she didn't turn that down either. She then got on a 4 wheeler and rode 5-6 miles out a mud bog trail to see the Indians out new village, high class for sure as the mud was 3 foot deep in places.

Ya know, if people only knew how honest & for real Palin is they wouldn't think twice about her speech today, no joke. She's just being Sarah Palin

First order of business for Palin now that she is above possible lashback is to destroy, once and for all, her running mate in 2009....Rino McCain.

She will then have put the fear into the left of the Pubbie party - and can get down to business destroying Democrats.

Experience for one and she could see how WDC operates.

I think she is fully aware of how WDC operates. Of course Obama promised to fill out his senate term as well, and served a full three months before announcing for President.

“the crowing over her being a “quitter” from the Dims and their allies in the Country Club Northeastern Republican set is already vomit inducing..”

I have yet to hear one Republican remind these Sarah-haters that Obama quit his Senate seat in order to run for President...and he actually started running after only 180 days on the job. Why should Republican office holders be required to finish their terms when Democrats don’t?

Ya know, I hate to see her quit.

BUT ... I suspect her family needs her more than we do. Especially the baby. This will allow her more time with the baby and her younger children.

Much as I admire Sarah Palin, I was a little relieved that she could go home to Alaska.

I wish her well.
