Sen. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska — daughter of Frank Murkowski, who was defeated by Sarah Palin in the 2006 Republican gubernatorial primary — released a statement Friday after the governor announced her decision to leave office by the end of the month. Full text:

“I am deeply disappointed that the Governor has decided to abandon the State and her constituents before her term has concluded.”

Her office added that the senator was traveling "in interior Alaska and communicating via satellite phone and is unavailable for follow up questions" for the rest of the weekend.

Last year, shortly after the GOP presidential ticket's November loss, Murkowski warned Palin not to make a run for her Senate seat: “I can guarantee it would be a very tough election,” she told Politico.

Sarah is free to be politically active now and that frightens RINOs and Rodents.

Hey Lisa, Sarah EARNED her title as Governor, you had it HANDED to you by your corrupt daddy. Lisa should become a Democrat, they always are looking for a handout. Perhaps Lisa is crapping bricks because she is afraid Sarah might run against her. Remember when Sarah said she wouldn’t run against Murkowski, I bet Lisa is scared she was just kidding and will

This is Lisa doing payback;what did you expect?

Sarah Palin ruffled the feathers and kicked the butts of many old-time party politicians ;this is their chance to kick her out of politics.

Stay classy, Senator.

If the last nine years have done nothing else, they have shown the thin veneer of simple decency at the top of the GOP hierarchy.

“I am deeply disappointed that the Governor has decided to abandon the State and her constituents before her term has concluded.”

A transparent lie if I ever saw one. I'm getting a little bit tired of dynastic politics. As unfair as it may be to Lisa Murkowski, the my standards are higher for her than for somebody like Sarah Palin. Palin has made mistakes, and probably will make more. But Lisa Murkowski has never said or done anything that would make me consider voting for her.

I don’t remember little Lisa defending Governor Palin from all those bogus ‘RAT “ethics” investigations. I might be wrong but I just don’t remember anything like that. She needs to just shut up.
