David Keene, the Chairman of the American Conservative Union trashed Sarah Palin publicly today on NewsMax. However, a quick search of Mr. Keene's recent political contribution history reveals the following:
David Keene, Managing Associate of the Carmen Group Lobbying Firm, and Head of ACU, Alexandria, VA.
Political contributions in 2008 election cycle:
KEENE, DAVID, ALEXANDRIA,VA 22314 THE CARMEN GROUP/EXEC 5/1/07 $1,000 Specter, Arlen (R)
KEENE, DAVID, ALEXANDRIA,VA 22314 THE CARMEN GROUP/EXEC 12/19/07 $800 Specter, Arlen (R)
KEENE, DAVID, ALEXANDRIA,VA 22314 THE CARMEN GROUP/EXEC 12/19/07 $200 Specter, Arlen (R)
What I want to know is, how does a guy like this get to be the chairman of the ACU? Has the American Conservative Union turned into the American Liberal Republicans Who Are Now Democrats Union when we weren't looking? Apparently so.
That said, if I were Sarah Palin, I'd take this guy's advice and toss it in the bin with the rest of the fish guts.

Antoninus,
Don’t you find it funny how the RINO bottom feeders in the GOP establishment conduct themselves? Last year when McLame was the RINO and Romney was considered the conservative challenger (yes, thats how low we sunk during last election that someone like Romney really was the conservative alternative)they all savaged Romney to support Mclame. Now that it appears that Palin is in the picture as the real conservative candidate, they look towards Romney as their savior.
You left out David Broder, the MSM idea of a ‘conservative’.
Thank you so much for posting this.
It’ll be interesting to see if he remains head of the ACU.
ARLEN SPECTER???? I USED to kind of like Keene....NO MORE!
“Many media conservatives are more media than conservative (Hannity, Hewitt prime examples).”
I always felt that they are pundits and strategists first, emotionaly charged conservatives second. They are not out for the success of conservatives and they our country, they are out to be right in their political projections. This is especially true for Carl Rove. Anyone who really cared about the future of the country would not publiclly undermine the defacto leader of the conservative movement. No good could come out of it even if you disagree with them.
I am just unsure what you mean about Hannity. Is he criticising Sarah?
The Plan that Romneycare was based on was a study, Heritage itself never even floated it out past the ‘think tank” stage.
So keep Heritage on your good list for now, just know there are some doctor wonks that got a wee bit giddy their idea got out, despite the fact it should never have seen the light of day in the real world...
If you want to know more, spend some time at Heritage reading up, and it will take time to see exactly where they really are as a group on this.
The head of CPAC donating to help super RINO’s??!!! PURE INSANITY! WHAT A FRAUD!
hah...guys will be guys.
A nice picture...:)
Oh my...
The irony flows like a river...
I blew off CPAC the day McCain and his buses of koolaid drinkers drove up to their convention and they welcomed him like the 2nd coming of Christ while Ann Coulter was pushed into a side room.
Which platform? The one where he's pro-abortion? Or the one whee he's marginally pro-abortion? Or the one were he's lukewarm anti-abortion, but doesn't know where life begins (his latest one, I think).
The one where he's proud of socialized medicine (Massachusetts Romney Care) or the one where he's against socialized medicine?
The one where he claims an NRA endorsement he never got, or the one where he said he would since the assault weapons ban?
Please, be more specific. Which Mitt Romney platform are we talking about? If you could narrow it down to a month & year, it would be helpful.
So is Victimhood now the premier conservative virtue? I'm getting a Nixon vibe out of this....
"A large and regressive tax increase on low-income workers is not the solution to America's health care problems. Some people might gain coverage, but all will lose take-home pay, and many will lose their jobs entirely."

Bullshit this hack criticized Palin because she "whined" about the media, which simply isn't true. There was no wise advice given. Read the original thread that dissected his article.
Hannity would know Adam Smith from Adam Sandler.
I feel myself, a construction worker( not much, lately ) getting dumber with each minute of listening to him. He makes me feel like syrup is being poured into my brain. I feel as if neurons are shutting down.
..so is the ACU just a Potemkin Village hiding a bunch of RINOs?
I had a friend who was a lead researcher at a Heritage affiliate institution up until a few months ago, The health care guys were a bit altruistic but center policy did not allow for the stifling of ideas, no matter how goofy, which is the way it should be. Needless to say as I was looking at all this in 2008, he made it clear that support was far short from being unanimous across the board...
1. He isn't her coach and she didn't ask for his advice (people on teams or in boot camp submit to authority). As far as I know, she did not solicit his advice.
2. He has conflicting loyalties which he did not disclose (his contribution record shows as much).
3. If he truly felt he had something constructive to add, he could have called or written, rather than air it in public. Instead, it comes off as self-aggrandizement.
I really do “NOT” like where this is going.
great pic...my very cute next Preisdent.
yer last name byrd?
mine too
I posted the following comments earlier today at C4P. I’ll repost them here since it applies to this thread.
It appears that we have a new so-called conservative writer who suffers from PDS. Has anyone ever heard of Ronald Kessler? I didnt either until Monday. He wrote the following article for Newsmax in which he basically said Governor Palin had lost her nerve and wasnt ready for prime time.
http://www.newsmax.com/kessler/palin_resignation/2009/07/06/232320.html
In addition to regurgitating many of the phony talking points of the left, he also repeated the false meme that she had agreed to speak at CPAC only to back out at the last minute. There were a lot of snarky half truths in the article but I didnt think much of it because I never heard of the guy and just assumed he was another Kathleen Parker conservative trying to gain favor with the liberal media.
However, today he has a new article out which is even more full of nonsense.
http://www.newsmax.com/kessler/sarah_palin_cpac/2009/07/09/233604.html
In this piece, he interviews David Keene, chairman of the American Conservative Union, which runs the annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC). The comments Kessler attributed to David Keene, if true, cause me to wonder why Governor Palin would want to attend CPAC next year, or ever, for that matter. First Keene calls Governor Palin a whiner and implies that she needs to be tougher.
Sarah Palin needs to stop whining about unfair media coverage and get over the fact that some people dont like her, Dave Keene, chairman of the American Conservative Union, tells Newsmax. Palin doesnt seem to get that politics is a tough game, says Keene, one of the countrys most astute political observers.
Really Mr. Keene? What is your political experience? Have you ever been a governor, or even a dogcatcher? What do you know about political toughness? Do you consider taking on your own party with no name and no family money tough?
After this, Keene goes on to repeat the false meme of her failure to attend CPAC.
Palin has proven to be unreliable when it comes to speaking engagements that help the GOP. For instance, Palin at first accepted an invitation to speak at the 2009 CPAC, where 9,000 conservative activists meet to listen to speeches by the major candidates, swap ideas and strategies, and get energized for the next election.
She confirmed that she will be speaking to CPAC in person, Keene says. Then her office said she was going to be there, they were just working out the logistics. Then all of a sudden she couldnt be there. At the last minute she was going to do a videotape. We dont usually do that, but we said OK. Then it turned out they couldnt get the videotape done, they couldnt figure out how to do it or something. And so she just didnt come. Now that was our instance, and it also happened to a number of other groups.
Why would a so-called conservative repeat the falsehood that she agreed to attend the conference when that simply did not occur. Is it just me or is Keene still upset that she was unable to attend and now feels the need to take pot shots at her. Im not an expert in this area, but it seems to me that if he wants her to attend the 2010 CPAC, lying about her is not the correct way to go about it. I decided to look a little bit further into Mr. Keenes background. A quick check of his biography in Wikipedia told me all I needed to know:
In December 2007, Keene endorsed Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign.
Heres the link:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Keene
It seems that both Mr. Kessler and Mr. Keene are Romneybots with a clear purpose to discredit Governor Palin in order to help Mittens. Exit question: Is there any wonder why Romney won the CPAC poll the last three years, given that the guy who runs CPAC is in the tank for him?
Its time to cull the herd of RINOs. Sarah the hunter is the prefect one for the job.
She did whine. I paid attention. I also read the entire article re Keene’s comments. According to some people, he’s not entitled to speak freely in this free country, eh?
Someone has to stop the cycle, don't you think?
Only if it stops on a conservative.
Nice picture...
Keene is a mongrel.
How do we end up with people like these calling themselves conservatives.
Contact the ACU, and let them know what you think of this BS and this BS’er.

He has broken the 11th for no good reason. He’s hardly a conservative (other then making money as a lobbyist).
Pay a bit more attention, and made something will click. Or maybe you have never seen a fighter.

Not guilty.
Gotta agree. But more than a pretty face.
So much of what conservatives know about her clicks with us, and I have great hope she can throw off the shrill detractors and bring home the energy (in more ways than one) we need.
A run in 2012, who knows? But her ideas as I know them (and especially her contempt for the status quo) mirror my own, and I'm ready and waiting to hear more. Whatever she does I don't expect I'll have a problem standing behind her.
Whoa... did you see this?
The conservative way you seem to support is attacking other republicans and cowering around like whipped dog. Your a Romney supporter, right? It figures.
I'd say what you lost wasn't quite a "friend," then. I have some friends who are elite Republicans, and sure enough ... the sneer condescendingly at Palin and think Romney is "superior." Take comfort in the fact -- and spread the word -- that the behavior of Romney supporters speaks volumes about Romney. Look at La Enchiladita's hypocrisy here, prattling about Palin presenting herself as a "victim," when for the past two years at least, the contemptible and deceitful MO of Romney supporters on Free Republic has overwhelmingly been to paint anyone who opposes Romney as an irrational "hater" and anti-Mormon bigot.
For that reason, I hope Jim Robinson continues his excellent policy of letting Romney bots remain on FR. Their behavior is truly one of the best means of proving to conservative thinkers of how truly rotten Romney is.
How did you guess?
Mitt supporters are OUR best players...
Exactly, this needs to stop.
Because it is natural for me to not just make assumptions. The most common result of that kind of thinking is I learn something (though this time I think learning may have actually decreased my I.Q).
"Wobbly Bob" is in there too. Are you the spoon collector, the brew, or the three legged cat for which the latter is named?
I admit I didn't get all fired up about Giuliani because to me, he didn't present even remotely the danger to the Republic that Mitt did and continues to pose, but deceit, whininess, and ugliness on the part of Giuliani's supporters never came across to me in a big way; it seemed to me not much more than a few indulging in high emotions at an emotional juncture in politics.
And also, though I didn't like Giuliani's politics nor admire certain aspects of his persona life, I absolutely LOVED the fact that he was up front always about who and what he belived. He was real and up-front, it seemed to me.
Romney speaks in platitudes and whenever I have closely examined his words in print or in speeches, and I have done it often, I have discovered that while the platitudes say all the things that conservatives like to hear and make up the "campaign platform" CharlesWayneCT blithely buys as legit and worthy of "conservative" support -- the specifics, when you get down to them, are the opposite of anything to do with conservative principle as it was taught to me by my dear ol' dad. Beyond the platitudes, in Romney's own speeches, the "solutions" he proposes always involve more, bigger government in terms of control, regulation, mandates, or penalties.
To tell you the truth, Giuliani, flawed as he was, was the better man and a smaller danger to the Republic. Giuliani was a misguided too-liberal, well-meaning man; Romney is a bonafide Trojan Horse to conservatism in America, and he needs to be rejected NOW. If Romney is on the ticket, my vote will go elsewhere, ALWAYS, EVERY TIME.
I don't think so. Just transferred them to the same list as Big Tent RINO Central (RNC), NRCC, NRSC and CPAC. Can you say "No more money or support of any kind or nature whatsoever."?
I knew you could...
That is the crux of the problem for many, but if you believe that, then the problem with Keene endorsing Romney is not that Keene is a liberal, but that he is a fool.
However, most people who supported Romney are not attacked for being naive, but for being liberals, because calling a conservative liberal is a much more satisfying attack.
I think 24 years is a long time to head an organization.
