Why People are Liberal - Because It's Easy and They are Lazy

I got to thinking the other day, why are people liberal? To a conservative their "values" seem so skewed, and so entirely unethical at times. After careful consideration, I have concluded that there are several factors that lead to a liberal ideology, including mental, moral and ethical.

First, it is easy to be liberal. If you don't want to have to think too hard about how to stand on a position, it is easy to just say, "everything is ok", "everything is equal", "there is no wrong", "all lifestyles are ok", "everyone should have everything they want", etc., etc. It is a hard thing to think logically on a topic, and come to the conclusion that some things are just plain wrong, somethings are not equal, some things are not ok, some people will have to do without for the common good, etc. Liberals call it cold hearted conservatism, conservatives call it logical, or moral.

Second, it seems cool. When you are a liberal, you have the same views as all the big Hollywood celebrities, all the major media outlets, your college professor, all the moron emo-kids at school, etc. Why not join the crowd? If you take a more controversial stand against something, i.e. Carrie Prejean, you stand the possibility of being an outcast, ostracized, harassed, etc.

Third, in many cases liberals lack religion, and in many cases they aren't religious because faith in a higher power is hard (please note this is not a blanket statement towards ALL liberals). So much of what liberals believe in takes no faith, because they rely on "scientific" backing, or discount moral implications, therefore it takes little investment of the soul, or effort. It is easy to say, being gay is great when you don't believe morals play a part, it is easy to say man came from monkeys, because you don't have to have faith in an eternal Father in Heaven, it is easy to say abortion is ok, because then you don't have to have faith that we are children of God, or that there are consequences for our actions, or that there is an afterlife where we will be held accountable for our actions.

Fourth, some liberals are narcissists, and they assume they are vastly superior in intelligence to the knuckle-dragging-conservative-slack-jawed-yokels, basing all their arguments on morals, God, the evils of capitalism, military might, etc. They believe that the liberal indoctrination their college professors spewed at them is the intelligent, more distinguished, more sophisticated view of the world. So, they go around spouting communist theory, socialist theory, relativism, agnosticism, etc.

Fifth, it is easy to let the government take care of things for you. It is easy to ask the government to provide your housing, health care, education, food, drugs, protection, moral legislation (telling you what is right/wrong), etc. It is especially easy when you have no desire to obtain or develop these things for yourself, through hard work, sacrifice, or determination. It is even easier when it is free, because you don't pay any taxes in the first place, or you don't comprehend the fact that the Government doesn't have any money, save for the money they tax from the American populous. It is little wonder people have such little care for other's property, because things gained easily are regarded lightly.

But I believe it takes an intelligent, self assured, faithful, strong person to see that there are powers outside our control. That just because we would like something to be right or moral, doesn't mean it is. That we can believe man isn't the be all, end all of existence. That sometimes people have to suffer, and it is our duty as people to take care of them, not the Government. That God didn't intend for life to be easy, that man was meant to face trials, so that he could grow in strength and character. That man has worth, and that we degrade that innate worth when we aren't accountable for ourselves, and our actions, when we don't learn to take care of ourselves, and those we are responsible for. I believe that God knows far more than any man, including the greatest political leaders of any day or age. I believe that you know what is best for you and your family, not someone a thousand miles away in a smoke filled room. I believe that this country was founded on the idea of personal liberty and freedom, a life free from tyranny, and government interference, free from a central power telling us what is moral, and forcing us to accept it.

There is use for the government, they are meant to protect us from foreign and domestic threats. They have use in creating and maintaining infrastructure vital to the health of the nation. They have use in outlawing acts or otherwise that pose threat to American citizens, like abortion. They have use in facilitating trade, and economic wealth. They have use in ways that help the Americans, but they should have no part in anything that forces undue intrusion or control into or on our lives.

I believe it is hard to be a conservative, but I wouldn't have it any other way.

Democratic party is the party of cults, disconnected from one another more often than not at cross purposes as well.

This part ruins what would have otherwise been a good piece

It boils down to people being stupid and gullible and liberals tell them what they want to hear.

It is much easier to say “Rich people are greedy” that it is to say that a certain “rich” person worked 70 hours a week for 5 years to get his business started and still works 50-60 hours a week to make sure it keeps going.

Also, there is nothing stupid, ignorant people enjoy more than appearing wise and compassionate. Liberalism allows for that in spades!

Liberalism is about ENVY.. totally about ENVY..
The Grasshopper and the Ant story.. humanified..

The Grasshopper feigns support of 'victims" and wears a doo-gooder mask..
All the while hes trolling for a hand-out himself..

The Grasshopper tells himself the Ant is "Fortuate" and "Lucky" to have supplies..
When the Grasshopper(liberal) is just lazy and a conman..
and is planning to and willing to steal from the Ant..

ENVY makes theft and aggression logically possible..

The current President(POTUS) is a Grasshopper..
among a whole administration of Grasshoppers..
with a Congress of Grasshoppers and main stream media of grasshoppers..

Most people are immature. It’s like voting for school class president. You know the one who offers shorter school days and longer recess.

A lot of it is just trying to “feel good”. If there is a hungry person on the other side of the street, who wouldn’t want to give them food? It would help them, and it would make you feel good. It’s obviously the right thing to do, yes? Well … not so much.

That person will be there the next day as well, because now they are in a cycle. They aren’t going to go where the work is, they aren’t trying to learn any skills, they aren’t doing anything productive in their quest for food. They are just sitting there, waiting for you to show up and give them food. Their situation today is worse than their situation yesterday. And the do-gooders are to blame for that.

But the do-gooders feel good, and that’s what really matters, right?

Third, in many cases liberals lack religion

This is a great essay but I beg to differ on this one point. Ann Coulter put this idea in a lot of folks' heads with one of her books, but the scientific data show otherwise. I think it is completely fair to say that atheism is more common among liberals than conservatives. But the fact remains that most liberals are far from atheists. So I think it would be better that we stick to the facts.

Hosepipe's post is consistent with my own observations. Liberalism is a philosphy of resentment. Liberals tend to be pretty miserable people who resent what successful people have. Even when they are successful themselves they resent the more successful.

The exception here is the very young who are often temporary liberals out of naivete and idealism.

Can you say that and still be honest about where the Left lies on Evolution? Those kids (they are infantalized) quote Gould, but mention genetics and they revert to PC form backwardness that would impress any Dark Ages priest.

I think by liberalism most people mean the self hate as exemplified by white liberals. The rest of the Democratic party is an unglamorous collection of racists and union hackery combined into a looting operation who follow up in the destructive wake of liberalism for a little cleanup.

Its not like we hear of feminism anymore since it degenerated into the cult of the ugly and wacky abortion zeolots, and hence made it as unatractive as Rosie O’Donnell. Talk about born losers the feminists ought to feel lucky to hold onto their slice of the affirmative action booty, because they are less popular than Britney Spears, way less.

I think "groupthink" is also a problem in liberal enclaves. I know otherwise sensible people who went for Obama largely because "everyone else was doing it."

What POs me is that many of the flag waving, Joe-Schmoe types around here also vote Dem religiously, even as they bitch about immigrants. Then again, most of these people are not smart enough to put two and two together.

Most people are immature.

Agree. Society protects people to a large extent from the bad consequences of the decisions they make, and so much of the population is stuck at an adolescent level of maturity.

When there is a 40% illegitimacy rate, including a 75% rate among blacks, with birth control easily available, it shows that large numbers of single women can sleep around with whomever they will, have as many children as they like even though they do not have the resources to support these children, but society will pick up the tab on feeding, sheltering, clothing, educating and providing medical care for their children.
