Obama called and offered him a deal - Back off lawsuits and anything else that would keep this thing in the news, and Obama will give him something valuable down the line. A cherry spot in the administration, an ambassadorship, cash, something.
So Gates backs off.
Obama never does any quid pro quo where both sides of the deal are paid off at the same time. Most times, one party waits for a year or two before getting their payment. That’s The Obama Way.
Maybe he can be the "Get Whitey Czar", if BO hasn't already made that appointment.
It's also the Don Corleone way.
A few million in Stimulis Bill government grants to his “non-profit” should get him to quiet down.
That reminds me:
From now on, we all need to change our vocabulary. If government money is involved, we all need to start using the word “TAXPAYERS” instead of using the word Government.
Instead of saying “He works for the government”, we say “He works for the taxpayers.”
Instead of saying “Government Grants”, we say “Grants funded by Taxpayers”.
Instead of saying “She’s living off the government”, we say “She’s living off taxpayers.”
I’m sick of hearing radio commercials advertising $4500 stimulus money to sell your used car to a dealership to buy a new one, and the ad actually said “It’s FREE MONEY FROM THE GOVERNMENT.”
It ain’t free money from the government, it’s WASTED money from TAXPAYERS !!
The City of Cambridge and the Cambridge Police Department have recommended to the Middlesex County District Attorney that the criminal charge against Professor Gates not proceed. Therefore, in the interests of justice, the Middlesex County District Attorney's Office has agreed to enter a nolle prosequi in this matter. T
The City of Cambridge, the Cambridge Police Department, and Professor Gates acknowledge that the incident of July 16, 2009 was regrettable and unfortunate. This incident should not be viewed as one that demeans the character and reputation of Professor Gates or the character of the Cambridge Police Department. All parties agree that this is a just resolution to an unfortunate set of circumstances.
(I had to look up Nolle prosequi to learn that it "is a Latin legal phrase meaning "to be unwilling to pursue."[2] It is the term used in many common law criminal jurisdictions to describe a prosecutor's application to discontinue criminal charges before trial, or up until, but before verdict." In other words the fix is in.)
