In his first prison interview, a buff-looking Bernie Madoff said he couldn't believe he got away with his massive Ponzi scheme for so long.

"There were several times that I met with the SEC and thought 'they got me,'" Madoff told Joseph Cotchett, a San Francisco lawyer threatening to sue his wife, sons and brother on behalf of a group of victims.

Cotchett said he and his partner, Nancy Fineman, met with Madoff for four and a half hours Tuesday afternoon at the federal prison in Butner, NC, where Madoff is serving his 150-year sentence.

"He looked pretty good and seems to be working out," said Cotchett. "He looked a lot better than he has in some months since I've seen photographs of him."

I’ve got a feeling that we’ll be hearing this same thing from Obama in about four years.

I think I would've taken the money and run at that point. Realized that enough was enough and all that. But then again, I don't believe I'd have been doing what he was doing to begin with, so it's hard for me to put myself in his shoes.

These lawyers should have extended their hands to him to shake, and then kicked him in the nuts once for every dollar he stole.

Ahh. But what if Bernie Madoff is secretly a master of the world's least popular martial art?

Bernie Madoff needs to be tortured to tell where the money ne tucked away is.

It would only take ten minutes. You do the car battery/sponge thing. He will talk. Start on the hands for a few seconds. If you need to, second time at the elbows for 5-10 seconds. Third time, if you need to, under the armpits for 15 seconds.

He will talk after the third time.

I’ve found that if you start cutting off the tips of the fingers down to the first knuckle, one at a time that you’ll usually get all the talking necessary before you reach the middle knuckles.

"...I think I would've taken the money and run at that point..."

Of all the folks who ever wanted to just disappear, get a new face, and live quietly in Bolivia the rest of his days, this man had the means to do it.

Instead he let his greed continue to drive him.

Me? I'd be living on the Kamchatka peninsula by a volcano, making payments to the local crime boss to run interference for me. Oh, and I'd buy a new face. Handsome this time.
