Welcome to Solar Minimum
Canada Free Press ^ | July 21, 2009 | Fred Dardick

Unfortunately for Democrats, global warming is much more complicated science than what their theories predict. The greatest contributing factor to global temperatures isn’t atmospheric carbon dioxide, it’s the sun. The sun’s release of energy has natural variations and it is currently in a state known as solar minimum; the lowest energy output by the sun as it oscillates through an approximate 11 year cycle of activity, also known as the Schwabe cycle.

This is the primary reason for the colder than normal temperatures recorded across the country this summer.

Great summery on why global warming is a poorly understood science that needs to be further studied before we tax ourselves into a depression.

There was some global warming nutcase on the news today saying that this cool spell is only local in this area (North Dakota, central Canada) and that the rest of the world is still getting hotter. Of course there was no one in the media to ask why the global temperature averages don't agree with his statement.

If the globull warming crowd can ignore the solar minimum, just wait until we hit the solar maximum!

The great irony here is it is entirely possible that President Obama and congressional Democrats will impose massive new energy taxes on the nation in a misguided effort to combat global warming, while at the same time the earth is barreling towards another little ice age.

It's not ironic government, and particularly Democrats, are always slow, both mentally and politically.

Al Gore is profiting more than many Wall Street executives from global warming. Gore is getting panic stricken that global cooling will be recognized before the Cap and Trade bill is enacted. I wonder how many other member of Congress have their fingers in this pot.

Correction :

Great summery on why global warming is a poorly understood science that needs to be further studied before we tax ourselves into oblivion.

There now, fixed.

How far north of Fairbanks are you, by the way?

The great question for the age: When does algore get so fat that he reaches his “tipping point”. When that happens (and it will) the result won’t be pretty, kids.

I guess that is why we have broken over 100 all-time low temperature marks for July throughout the state down here in Alabama this month. I guess I missed the part about Alabama being part of Central Canada in geography class. What a maroon.

One good measure of a model's ability to predict the future is its ability to 'predict' the past. That is, assume it is 1880, and then predict the temperatures in 2009. If sunspot activity is included in the 'prediction', the models can be quite accurate in not only 'predicting' 2009 temperatures, but also the heating and cooling trends that happened in between.

The problem for the Warmists is that there is no residual warming left over to attribute to CO2. That is, virtually all of the temperature anomalies can be explained without including CO2 in the model. When CO2 is included, the models are no longer accurate. That leaves the Warmists with the only option to deny that sunspots are a factor.

You’d have to go North from Fairbanks about 22,800 miles to get to Squantosville.

Too bad they didn't see the headlines in the Nashville, TN, newspapers on July 20th. Nashville set a new all time record low 3 mornings in a row around July 20th. My weather station, located about 90 miles SE of Nashville, recorded 51F, a full eight degrees lower than what was recorded in Nashville. The forecast is for highs in the low 80's and low's in the low 60's for the next three weeks. Ordinarily, we have highs in the mid to upper 90's and low's in the lower 70's. This is generally the hottest, driest part of the year. Not this year, though.....

Also, notice there have been NO ... yes I said no tropical storm activities this year. I go to the weather underground web site and they have plenty of globull warming alarmists, but for some reason they are reporting the low temperatures and total lack of storm activity with little or no commentary. Imagine the freaking commentary if we were in a solar maximum right now. But I remember that Gore’s brilliant PowerPoint Presentation, “An Inconvenient Lack of Truth” said we will see a greater number and more intense storms. That was 2005/06. Just the opposite has happened since.

Yep. Joe Bastardi over at Accuweather, one of the best in the 'bidness if you axe me, is forecasting a cold winter for the eastern half of the US. The storm track he's forecasting is what gives us massive ice storms here in SE Tennessee or storms like the one in '93 that dumped 38" of snow here at my hacienda. I've got about 3 years worth of firewood in my crib now and a bumper crop of pretty much everything coming out of my garden this year. I pick up this year's cow from the butcher on Monday. Just put new all terrain tires on my Pathfinder and serviced my backup generator, too. I'm ready.....

That's because rising C02 follows rising temperature, not the other way around. This has been shown multiple times over history as revealed in the analysis of numerous ice cores taken in both arctic and antarctic regions covering hundreds of centuries of time....

The Lassen article mentioned in this article is here:
http://www.tmgnow.com/repository/solar/lassen1.html

Anyone honestly interested in the subject of AGW would do well to be familiar with this. One of the graphics in the article follows. The last solar cycle #23 lasted from May96 to Dec08 = 12.7 years (unless Sol gets very quiet the rest of this year)
