Posted on 08/01/2009 12:55:07 PM PDT by GoldStandard
A plan to open the Federal Reserve to the same scrutiny that almost all other federal government operations endure is overwhelmingly supported by the American people, according to a new poll by Rasmussen Reports. The survey found that 75% of Americans favor auditing the Fed and publicizing the results. The same kind of support can be found in Congress, where members on the left and right who rarely come together are supporting the change.
A House bill by libertarian congressman and former presidential candidate Ron Paul (R-TX) would give the Government Accountability Office the power to examine the books of the national bank, whose leaders object to the idea, arguing that it would compromise the Feds independence. H.R. 1207 has 281 cosponsors who span the political spectrum from leftist Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) to arch-conservative Michelle Bachmann (R-MN).

WHAT?? Demand to find out where our stolen TAX DOLLARS are going? Why, who the hell do we think we are??
Move along, the fed doesn’t need you reading this now.
The fed has done such a wonderful job of protecting America’s wealth and currency since 1913.What would we do without them?
"Americans support plan to Audit the Federal Reserve, despite sponsorship by Ron Paul."
Ha, that will only expose what the bureaucrats in Washington don’t want you to know about, I think the fed is unconstitutional and always has been. I doubt with the Chicago thugs now in office and the rats in control of the legislator that congressman. Paul will get any traction on this, not when there is still so much of the tax payers monies to be looted.
Paul,Palin 2012 taking America back
Yeah, you’re right. Why believe the guy who was correct about this whole gigantic mess from the get-go. Just keep your faith in the rest of them who didn’t have the guts to say what he’s been saying for decades now....
If the American people ever realized that the Federal Reserve creates our entire monetary base by issuing loans, at interest, to the federal government, there would be a revolt. Especially if they found out that the Federal Reserve is just typing this new debt money into existence on a computer.
The FR will allow this when Obama shows us his birth certificate.
Hey, is it possible we could get a twofer out of this?
So by printing Federal Reserve notes to purchase bond...Oooo, a new American Idol is on soon. Will Paula return as a judge? < /massive cynicism about the American populous>
In 96 years the only thing the Fed has done is wipe out over 95% of the value of the dollar. Just a little more than 4 to go. Can they hit it by their 100th birthday?
Even a broken clock is right twice a day.
I heard that Hitler liked dogs.
I realize you’re joking but you don’t get good twofers in a Socialist Society. You get two minusers. See Iran trials.
How in the heck did this thread get Godwined?
While you are at it, Mr Paul, could we look at where all the Medicare fraud is happening??
This is actually the nicest thing I've ever said about Paul. If I were you I would revel in it.
Sadly, you are absolutely correct, now that I think about it.
Well you're certainly a pleasant guy....
You see, Ron Paul actually wants the USA to follow the Constitution as it was written, so he’s a POS. ??????
Bernanke’s answers were not anything that would inspire any confidence. He literally could not answer either of these questions.
This is an out of control entity, period.
LOL - Great commentary on the attention span of too many in America today. The Pols depend upon it and they are never disappointed.
“I saw a clip of Bernanke being questioned “
That’s a GREAT clip! Everybody should see it! A Florida dem, laughing at Bernanke. It’s GREAT! And now I can’t find the durn thing,,,,,
Please find it. It was both hilarious and terrifying to see how little this man knew about what he was doing and what he was allowed, under the law, to do without ANY prior review or approval.
The Rep who was questioning him was excellent - He was a Dem?
Yes, we see how badly it compromises the independence of all publicly traded companies. /sarc
My my you do like those question marks don't you?
First of all I was the one who called "Doctor Paul" a POS, not GoldStandard. So if you're going to refer to my statement you need to give me a courtesy ping.
Secondly it's easy to claim I and the FReepers who don't like "Doctor Paul" do so because he "only wants to follow the Constitution". I guess it's a lot easier to claim that than to deal with his past history of anti-Israeli sentiment, of being glad that the Democrats were the controlling majority and of being a 9/11 truther. All things that of course have something to do with "following the Constitution".
If you care so much about Israel, then go over there and join their Army and fight for them.
Perfect. Thanks much. This should be a separate thread. It is truly frightening!
I said “Perfect. Thanks much. This should be a separate thread. It is truly frightening!”
Hang on to your hatred...it is all you have.
The Israelis do a pretty good job of fighting for themselves thank you. However I am fighting for them. I'm doing it by pointing out that Ron Paul has a long history of anti-Israeli sentiment. I'm doing it that pointing out that you are a dirtbag.
Israel wouldn’t last 2 years with out our money and support.
You are a liar and a coward.
It is obvious that your education in social skills was sorely lacking. You are a most unpleasant cad, drooling rage behind your keyboard. You are an example of what civilized people hold up to ridicule the right with. You should get out of your trailer once in a while and interact with other people in the real world. But. You are safer running off at the mouth in cyber space. Don't have to worry about a virtual wired jaw eh. So continue...to spew your ignorance and rage. It's like watching a three year old hold his breath and stomp his feet.
Your type harms anything they advocate for just because of how well you utilize the "jerk" factor.
I figured you’d say something like that. You hate Ron Paul it seems, otherwise you wouldn’t insult someone who’s pushing something you agree with. And you can say what you want to me or about him, you’re just hurting yourself by not listening to what he says. He didn’t invent his message, the Founding Fathers did. And all we’ve done since then is move towards the founding fathers of the Soviet Union. I never despised Ron Paul the way so many (like you) do on here, just out of reflex. I just didn’t understand him so I went with what sounded better than the left. Then I started to realize that there was barely any difference between those on the so-called right and the left, so I started to pay attention to him. And since he just echoes the Founders, I agreed. I only hate collectivism and big government, friend. And when you can show me how Rudy/McCain/Romney or even Bush took us any farther from that then we used to be, I’ll believe you have an argument instead of an irrational grudge.
The American public is at fault for allowing itself to be victimized by the elite. Every country with a Fed/IRS (Bank of England-style) system ends up in the same predicament as us. In 1764, the Bank of England tried to impose its system on the Thirteen Colonies by having Parliament outlaw Colonial Script. The result was depression and the American Revolution.
Banksters never fully succeeded in imposing a Bank of England-style system on the US until 1913. Previously, the low-tax, low-debt American economy overtook the high-tax, high-debt British economy in the 1880's. Under the Fed/IRS system, the US has become high-tax and debt-shackled like Britain and the rest of Europe.
History shows that Fed/IRS and Bank of England-style systems are inherently prone to increasing, never repaid debt and spiraling taxes for interest. The only solution is a return to the highly successful Colonial Script system.
Unfortunately, there is not enough gold. A contraction in the money supply would cause deep depression and prevent future growth. We are stuck with a Fiat currency but Colonial Script provides a means to escape the debt-onerous fractional reserve system.
It doesn't help anyone to kill the goose that lays the golden eggs. The Fed must be audited to save the US economy.
Which is why I said that even a broken clock is right twice a day. Paul has a lot of support for this bill because it's a good idea. My problem with this thread though is that there are those who are trying to claim that wide support for Ron Paul's bill is wide support for Ron Paul. It's not the same thing.
Let me more clear still:
Audit the Fed? Hell yes!!
Marginalize Ron Paul for being the arrogant and traitorous nut he is? Hell yes!!
Well, discussion, pro or con, of libertarian foreign policy on financial threads is a distraction. Fed apologists are already calling Paul a nut for the audit but he was the lone voice predicting this mess.
