Massive Medicare Cuts Await Elderly Says New Ad From Seniors Group
60plus.org ^ | 8/7/2009 | 60Plus

Posted on 08/09/2009 8:20:20 AM PDT by curth

The 60 Plus Association, a 17-year-old nonpartisan senior citizens advocacy group often referred to as the “conservative alternative to the AARP” today released a TV ad warning the elderly that the healthcare proposal touted by the Obama Administration “means massive Medicare cuts in order to pay for healthcare ‘reform’.” See the ad at www.60plus.org.

“This strikes at the heart of the debate over the value of our seniors’ lives versus the cost of expensive treatments they need to stay healthy or get better,” said Jim Martin, President of 60 Plus.

Entitled “Sacrifice,” the ad states that seniors today, The Greatest Generation, have spent their lives sacrificing to protect freedom and strengthen our nation. From landing at Normandy, to raising strong families and building successful businesses, these men and women have remained dedicated to their country. Now, in seniors’ most vulnerable stage of life, President Obama and Congress are asking them to sacrifice even more by cutting Medicare to pay for healthcare reform, meaning long waits for care and even possible denial of care.

But perhaps the scariest part, the ad says, is that the government, not your doctor, decides if older patients are worth the cost. And the cruel joke is that many politicians are designing a health care plan for the country that they themselves are exempted from.

“Tell Congress don’t pay for healthcare reform on the backs of our seniors. They’ve sacrificed enough,” ends the ad.

The ad started today on national cable.

Keep hitting them. High Low and in between. We need to keep em on the ropes. At least til the November Govenor elections. As the MSM tries to cover up one fiasco we have to hit with another before they can get the fresh propaganda line from the White House going.

and to funnel the “savings” into paying for health care for illegals already present and the hoards that will arrive in the near future!

Let’s call it what it is!

I think Euthanasia would be merciful compared to Obama care, where they simply refuse treatment.

I am sure this has been reported as Fishy to flag@whitehouse.org.

More and more people are reading what the Congress has in store for us, and all of these people cannot be wrong. This bill is bad news and the Dems are lying to us about it.
I fail to see the underlying reason for the lies as this is bound to come back an bite them. About 80% of Americans who have health insurance are frightened, surely the remaning voters cannot elect these lying Democrats who will vote for this bill.

destroyed in the next election, but I foresee Iranian style
vote counting and poll intimidation.

We're supposed to have a representative political system. Anyone who sees the polls knows that this healthcare bill is a loser. Anyone paying attention to the Town Halls knows that it's a loser.

I think there is a good chance that Congress with pass it. What that means, is that our representatives no longer fear the next election cycle. Think about that.

I don't think elections matter anymore. Your representative doesn't care what you think or how you plan to react in 2010 or 2012. Wait and see.

I think everyone should be writing and calling their Congress critter and showing up at townhalls with this basic question...

You voted no to be put on the new health care plan..so why can’t we have your plan??

Also, everyone should be pointing out that the Union thugs are exempt from the health care plan..so why are they forcing something on us that they are exempt from.

I was thinking the same thing.

Apparently some socialism is OK with conservatives.

Medicare is the reason why medical spending and prices have risen. You can't bring down prices and spending without cutting Medicare.

'Course, you can't get elected either. Seniors want their money. If you don't give it to them, they'll find someone that will. Democrats figured this out years ago.

Nothing complicated here. Medicare will be cut to the point of near elimination, American seniors will be SACRIFICED and illegals will be treated. WHY?? Because seniors are more likely to vote republican/conservative. See! It’s not complicated at all!

One thing the idiots in D.C. have forgotten is the millions of grannies and granddads who are financially helping their children, grandchildren and g-grandchildren who are now financially unstable under Obamanomics. Those grandparents won’t be able to continue to do that under Obamacare.

Medicare was passed during the years of LBJ's supermajorities in Congress. Although there were objections there was no coherent conservative opposition at that time.

Why bring down prices and spending? Medical costs are the same percentage of GDP as they were fifteen years ago. If the economy is allowed to grow, it will support future increases in costs accordingly. The people have indicated through the marketplace and voting booth that they want to spend 14-16% on healthcare, so why not allow them to do it?

Medicare is the reason why medical spending and prices have risen.

Medicare has a fee schedule. That fee schedule is typically much lower than what medical facilities charge non-insured. Medical facilities cannot charge more than the Medicare fee schedule.

That hardly has been the cause of increased medical spending and price rises.

You’re missing my point. Medicare is government-run health care. In order to truly get government out of healthcare, Medicare AND Medicaid will have to go.

It won’t be “sacrificing” seniors. They will have the same opportunities to buy insurance as the rest of us - in the marketplace. Or they can pay out of pocket, like a lot of us do. It would certainly eliminate a lot of unnecessary testing and spending. All those electrified wheelchair companies will stop advertising their unnecessary products to seniors who buy them because Uncle Sam picks up the tab.

Why are you in favor of Medicare, when it does the same thing that a public option would do, just for older citizens only? Why can’t Medicare start to incorporate the same end-of-life counseling that is proposed in this new bill? It wouldn’t even take a Congressional vote - just a tweaking of administrative rules to achieve the same ends.

And if seniors are more likely to be Republican/Conservative, then they should agree with the reasoning that would eliminate the program.

SEIU & AARP....FYI

“AARP does not operate a PAC, but its employees gave candidates, committees and parties $53,200, with Democrats receiving 90 percent of that.”

http://www.opensecrets.org/news/2009/02/special-interests-to-listen-ca.html

SEIU & AARP...joined at the hip and helping write amnesty/healthcare legislation.

AARP uses your dollars to fund the likes of:

MALDEF - Mexican-American Legal Defense and Education Fund

AARP says: “”Anybody who looks at immigration has to look at aging,” says Harry R. Moody, director of academic affairs at AARP. “First, immigration affects the age structure of society” by adding younger members to the population, he says. “Second, the people who do hands-on care work are immigrants. Look at our nursing homes! We have an image of people picking tomatoes — that’s not the whole story. Immigrants are the front-line caregivers.”

& http://www.americanpatrol.com/MALDEF/Contributors-2002-2003.html (Fannie Mae gives to them, too!)

AARP also contributes to LULAC

La Raza

And from AARP’s ‘Latino’ magazine....

Meet AARP’s New CEO: A. Barry Rand

A. Barry Rand, chairman of the Board of Trustees at Howard University and a nationally recognized agent for social change, has been tapped as AARP’s new chief executive officer. He will become the organization’s first African American CEO when he assumes the position in April.

AARP Welcomes Jacob Lozada

AARP Board member Jacob Lozada gives AARP Segunda Juventud readers his perspective on issues facing U.S. Hispanics and how he hopes to boost AARP’s profile in his native Puerto Rico.

AND AARP works hand in hand with the SEIU. They are the ones formulating the legislation that the dems are pushing.

“– AARP, Business Roundtable and SEIU, which together represent more than 50 million Americans, today took another groundbreaking step for their “Divided We Fail” group by jointly delivering endorsed principles for health information technology (IT) legislation to Congress.

The Hill..March 3rd, 2009

Yes, let's meet AARP's Rand.

"..snip...Nearly all of Rand's campaign contributions came during the 2007-2008 election cycle. In addition to the $8,900 he gave to Obama, Rand contributed $4,500 to a leadership PAC maintained by House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Charles Rangel (D-N.Y.), the National Leadership PAC, between 2004 and 2008. Rand also gave $500 to the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) in 2007, $1,000 to the unsuccessful Senate campaign of then-Rep. Harold Ford (D-Tenn.) in 2006 and $1,000 to President Clinton's reelection campaign in 1995.

Except for the donations to Clinton and the DSCC, Rand's other contributions went to fundraising committees supporting black candidates. Rand became the first-ever black CEO of a Fortune 500 company when he took the helm at Avis, where he also was chairman of the board, in 1999. He was chairman and CEO of Equitant from 2001 until 2005, when he retired. Rand will be the AARP's first black chief executive."

Rand took over the AARP in April of this year.

Do you have to be an AARP member to post on their message board? It would be great if we could get this info posted in all of the threads there. Maybe some of the people who don’t know any better and actually think AARP is something good can learn the truth.
