Kanjorski "Telephone Town Hall" on Health Care (uninsured will spread Swine Flu)
Congressman Kanjorski's House Website ^ | 8/5/2009 | Paul Kanjorski D-PA

Posted on 08/09/2009 5:32:42 PM PDT by Born Conservative

Congressman Kanjorski had a Telephone Conference Call this past week; the topic was Health Care. Reportedly, someone who called his office was told that he no longer holds Town Hall meetings due to lack of interest.

Some notes I took of the call:

-Kanjorski said in his opening remarks that health plans are regulated at the state level, and that this is an impossible task. He then said that the best Congress can do is to "try and look at the system, and how we can BREAK IT DOWN and what we can do with it"

-He then went on to talk about the things he’s read about and seen on television that gives him some “very great discomfort”…meetings held by Arlen Specter, Steny Hoyer, and his "good friend" Lloyd Doggett of Texas….he’s seen people interrupt these meetings and “raise hell”…and even screamed down the Secretary of Human Services. “This is acceptable in the American system under the provisions of the First Amendment of the Constitution, but it isn’t necessarily productive”. We should be engaged in a great national debate on one of the major issues affecting all of the American people individually and collectively. At the present rate, healthcare will “eat up” 50% of our GDP in 20 years.

-People with pre-existing conditions could end up being uninsured, and then there are those who are “terribly adequately covered” and “have what we call a golden parachute type of insurance” “you may be one of the few or one of the lucky” , and “something like 50 million of the people in the United States are uncovered by any type of health care insurance”

-Americans do not have the best health care in the world. That is just not true, it’s not true at all” (he was presumably remarking about those who say we have the best health care in the country). The US is 29 out of 30 countries in the world in infant mortality… We have extraordinary and exceptional care in some instances if you’re fortunate enough to be well to do, if you’re fortunate to live in the right area of the country…If you’re fortunate to have the right type of insurance, then you can get exceptional care, but this doesn’t apply to the majority of our citizens at all. The US pays twice as much for healthcare than other industrial nations in the world, and these other nations get equal or better service for the money. “We are trying to make an adjustment to change that”.

-Health and politics have nothing in general in relationship

-There is no single bill that exists presently before the Congress of the US that can be voted on immediately or in the near future; it will take weeks, or several months to get a consolidated bill to come before the House

-“There are so many mis-statements out there” (about the health care proposals)

-People without medical coverage “they will be conduits by which Swine Flu is pedaled all around the country”. If these people don’t have access to healthcare, they will “contaminate” the rest of us. (approx 39 minute point)

-He doesn’t understand why people don’t trust the government

-The naysayers are the ones screaming just say no at these functions…they’re never going to be happy, never going to be satisfied…they didn’t like what happened in the last election…I’m not worried about them

IMO, Kanjorski displayed a distinct tone of condescension and disdain at those who speak up against the Health Care plan. For those who don't know, he is a Rep from Northeast PA.

"The US is 29 out of 30 countries in the world in infant mortality…"

This is a stat that the proponents keep putting out there. Sometimes the quote is that the US is 7th in infant mortality, so obviously they can't get their number straight. In any event, I'm not sure this is a credible number. I think there is more to this statistic then the proponents are willing to reveal.

He said 29 out of 30 INDUSTRIALIZED countries; just wanted to clarify that, although I’m not sure which the other 29 countries are.

Oh it’s about as credible as “something like 50 million of the people in the United States are uncovered by any type of health care insurance”. For months the number that’s been bandied about was 47 million. In an article in the local Sunday paper today, the number suddenly jumped to “48 million” and by evening it’s “50 million”???

When the swine flu "pandemic" was first all the rage, I was listening to the enemy radio station (progressive radio) in Denver. For all of my 20 minute commute to work, the insipid lib a##$ole harped on how this coming "epidemic" was the perfect example of why we need socialized health care.

His best quote (according to him) was that you wouldn't want your neighbors kids (uninsured of course) infecting your perfect lib child at school. "Even though we can ALL afford health insurance, the ones who can't will need it the most and our perfect kids will thus be infected by the great hordes of unwashed" Or some such crap.

1. I may believe that number if I see a credible source backing it up. (I’m not planning on that ever happening)

2. The number jumping to 50 million will be explained as those who have lost their jobs, and are now uninsured.

3. How many of these 50 million “here in America” are legal citizens?

4. How many are uninsured by choice?

Unless you’re critically ill, or are in a category placing you at risk that you would require Tamiflu, a doctor’s visit isn’t going to help. So, whether you are insured or not, many will not NEED treatment by a health professional. http://www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu/sick.htm

Did anyone ask this fool what health care program he and his “friends” would have access to?

Of course not. However, there was a person who thought that the government SHOULD provide healthcare to give the private insurers “competition”.

"We're not going to talk about 'Healthcare Reform', because you aren't going to listen. We need a debate, so we're not going to talk about it."

Makes sense to me.

These suddenly sensitive Democrats asking for a "debate" are just liars. They want no debate. They want to slam this power grab through Congress before the People can find out whats in it. Their argument is "Shut Up!"

Yeah. I know I'd much rather get my health care in Rwanda, though I'm not as jealous about it as Nancy Snyderman. /sarc

SNYDERMAN: One other sort of tough question. Some experts this weekend have said we are looking at class warfare in the United States and you have to say those words if we're going to move forward. Would you agree with that?

ROBINSON: As somebody who works in this country but as a guest, if you like, I'll leave it others to put it in sharper terms. What I would like to suggest from a global health perspective is look at what some of the very poorest countries have done. Rwanda, a post-genocide country, has 90% health insurance cover. I was there last September and I was there in March --

SNYDERMAN: You're making me jealous.

ROBINSON: Doesn't it?

Wow.

But if only the uninsured spread it, then he shouldn’t be so worried if he and his kids are insured, eh? Who knew?

My point was that long ago, when the swine flu first broke out in Mexico, liberals were even then, jumping on it as an example to promote socialized medicine. I have been wondering how long it would take that twisted idea to be made into talking points for Democrat congress scum.

Your post confirmed my suspicion, that the flu, would indeed be used as a tool. I’ll call it the liberal version of FEAR TACTICS.
