Dan Walters: Boxer shaky again as campaign looms
Sacramento Bee ^ | 8/10/9 | Dan Walters

California's U.S. senators tend to fall into two categories – headline-grabbers and dependable workhorses for the state's interests.

For the past 17 years, the state's two senators have been Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer. Both elected during the much-heralded "year of the woman," they have followed the state's time-honored pattern.

Boxer draws media attention with her quixotic political forays, often involving some left-of-center cause having nothing to do with California, while Feinstein is the go-to person for the state's economic and political interests.

It explains why voter polls consistently find that Feinstein is among the state's highest-rated political figures while Boxer's popularity swings with the tides and rarely reaches beyond the magic 50 percent level.

Every six years, Republicans believe that with just the right candidate and just the right amount of money, they can knock off the woman they love to hate. And they are heartened again by a new poll showing Boxer barely leading the most likely 2010 challenger, former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina.

The Rasmussen Reports poll found that 45 percent of California voters support Boxer's re-election, with Fiorina at 41 percent and 7 percent undecided, much closer than a March poll. Fiorina isn't a declared candidate yet and also would have to defeat Chuck DeVore, a very conservative Republican legislator, for the GOP nomination.

Isn’t Boxer the one who pulled out some last minute dirty trick to defeat her opponent who had a nice lead in the polls? I’ll have to Google it, but I’m pretty sure it was her.

Arrogant Elitist Babs must be voted out. Her staff is as arrogant and Elitist as she is. Her arrogant behavior has been on display with proof on YouTube for one and all to see and to depise. She’s a disgrace for the State of California and for the nation.
Neuter them in 2010 and vote them out in 2012; send these disgraceful, power-hungry Socialists packing.

Boxer and Feinstein have both benefitted in recent years by a weakened CA GOP as well as by weak and undefunded challengers. Hopefully and prayerfully next year will be different.

When the people continue to re-elect an elitist, vacuous, self serving and infantile senator (Boxer), then it is the people who are at fault, not the infantile, vacuous, elitist, self serving senator. I question whether anyone has the power to save Californians from themselves.

They made a big deal out of the fact that Bruce Herschensohn, who was single, had entered into a risque nightclub on Sunset Blvd. called the Seventh Veil and that he once was seen browsing through a Playboy at at a newstand.

Former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina would be no prize catch. She basically ruined a once great company and product name because she wasn't qualified to be the CEO but got appointed anyway because it was fashionable due to her gender. On the other hand, she probably does have the brains to run a pop stand, something which cannot be said of Barbara Boxer.

Boxer is a lock. She won last time with nearly 7 million votes and 57.7 % of the vote. The Rep received 38.7% and lost by 2.5 million votes.

Both of them are an absolute disgrace and a testimony to the low quality of person that gets elected in the US. Feinstein is a down-the-line liberal hack, but Boxer is so stupid she makes Feinstein look like Einstein in comparison. California needs two wealthy Jewish women from the Bay Area as Senators because its takes two of them to make one halfwit. They picked Boxer to push the Global Warming propaganda because she’s the only one dumb enough to do it with a straight face. Arrogant, condescending, racist, anti-male, abortionist, totalitarian marxist morons.

LOL! Why? Because Boxer could have ruined HP so much more quickly?

Don’t worry, the idiots in my State will reelect Boxer with 60% of the vote.

We can’t have anyone who believes in the Constitution getting in the way.

And so we’ll beat them by running the woman. Carly Fiorina can take out the dwarf.

Senators serve 6 years, and are on a rotating election cycle, 1/3 being elected every two years.
Exactly when is Boxer’s term up?

Can we be lucky enough that she is up for election in 2010?

That’s how bad california’s politics have become - we are representated by two senators from San Francisco. (Boxer is actually from Marin across the golden gate bridge). And don’t forget Pelosi who’s also from San Fran!

Start your stop watches and time it until Boxer attacks her opponent as an “evil capitalist who made her fortune on the backs of women, blacks, and the handicapped and probably belongs to the NRA.”
