Many Britons too lazy to change TV channel: poll

LONDON (AFP) – Britons are so lazy that one in six cannot be bothered to change television channel if the remote control is not working, according to a study published on Monday.

More than half said they would take the lift rather than climb two flights of stairs to their workplace, while three quarters had too little energy for sex at the end of a long day.

An entire generation risks being blighted by idleness, warned Nuffield Health, a non-profit organisation which commissioned the poll.

"Ready-meals, remote controls and even Internet shopping are all contributing to a dangerously lazy and idle Britain," said Doctor Sarah Dauncey, its medical director.

"The nation has fallen into a vicious circle of laziness that we must put a stop to," she added.

...

In the poll of more than 2,000 adults, 15 percent said that, if the television remote was broken, they would rather continue watching the same channel than getting up and switching to another programme.

Thirty-six percent said they would not run to catch a bus, 59 percent took the lift instead of walking up even two flights of stairs, and 52 percent of dog owners said they could not be bothered to walk their pet.

Statement: "Many Britons too lazy to change TV channel: ..."

Response: I do not think the problem is laziness it is spiritual bankruptcy!(I don't mean the old time religion). Where there is no vision the people perish.

Used to be that wars and pestilence and famine would periodically sweep through a population and carry off a lot of good people -- and a great many people who didn't fend well for themselves.

Those days are gone and now we see what happens when there is no cleansing and there is no great need to look out for yourself.

Maybe because there is nothing better on any other channel.

Uh oh.

In the UK of 2009, “we must put a stop to” has ominous portent for Brits.

Mandatory Saturday exercise? Raking and weeding details? Shutdown of “unnecessary” elevators?

I do most all of my shopping via the Internet, not because I am lazy but it saves time and I don’t have to deal with the pierced know-nothings that inhabit the ranks of sales clerks jobs.

The BEST control on any TV is the ON/OFF button; and the best position for that switch is the OFF position.

Instead, people should be discussing what's going on, reading news on freerepublic, attending town hall's, joining and participating in their local Republican Town Committees, sending letters and e-mails to congresscritters, sinators, presidents, newspapers, blogs.

On Orwell’s Airstrip One, Winston Smith wanted to change the channel on his telescreen but couldn’t. In the real-life Airstrip One, Winston can but can’t be bothered to. Socialist utopia has arrived.

My guess is there isn’t too many public TV stations to watch in England, so they probably already know what is on the other channels.

Elevators are safer than stairs.

No big surprise here. People have been leaving Great Britian ever since its superior legal system lead to a thriving economy. After hundreds of years of mass emmigrations, the only ones left don't want to move far enough to change the TV on the telle with a penguin on it, notwithstanding the risks.

And if they break, the government will send us a coupon for a replacement.
