Officials see rise in militia groups across U.S.

WASHINGTON – Militia groups with gripes against the government are regrouping across the country and could grow rapidly, according to an organization that tracks such trends.

The stress of a poor economy and a liberal administration led by a black president are among the causes for the recent rise, the report from the Southern Poverty Law Center says. Conspiracy theories about a secret Mexican plan to reclaim the Southwest are also growing amid the public debate about illegal immigration.

Bart McEntire, a special agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, told SPLC researchers that this is the most growth he's seen in more than a decade.

"All it's lacking is a spark," McEntire said in the report.

It's reminiscent of what was seen in the 1990s — right-wing militias, people ideologically against paying taxes and so-called "sovereign citizens" are popping up in large numbers, according to the report to be released Wednesday. The SPLC is a nonprofit civil rights group that, among other activities, investigates hate groups.

Last October, someone from the Ohio Militia posted a recruiting video on YouTube, billed as a "wake-up call" for America. It's been viewed more than 60,000 times.

"Things are bad, things are real bad, and it's going to be a lot worse," said the man on the video, who did not give his name. "Our country is in peril."

The man is holding an AR-15 semiautomatic rifle, and he encourages viewers to buy one.

While anti-government sentiment has been on the rise over the last two years, there aren't as many threats and violent acts at this point as there were in the 1990s, according to the report. That movement bore the likes of Timothy McVeigh, who in 1995 blew up a federal building in Oklahoma City and killed...

"Is it starting? dunno."

There's been a few times i've been unable to log onto FR for half the morning lately. This morning I'm getting a lot of "service temporarily unavailable" (due to high volume or maintenance)screens. Don't know what it is. Nothing on my end(port attacks etc.) as far as I can see.

Southern Poverty Law Center always agitates for collectivism, generally by implementing the same “fear tactics” it accuses other groups of using. It’s most successful tactic is in conflating Right-Libertarian social thought (high individualism, liberty, contempt for powerful authority) with totalitarian/authoritarian groups (”freedom is fascism!”). Pro-gun groups get lumped with neo-nazis, people who want our current immigration laws to be simply enforced are grouped with xenophobes who demand racial purity in America, etc.

It is a twist on the classical strawman strategy - rather than refute the arguments of the sane opposition, conflate the sane with the insane, and then pretend that easy refutation and exposure of the insane opposition is sufficient to also combat the sane opposition. A fictional parallel between libertarian-Republican groups is fabricated between KKK, skinheads, neo-nazis, and other genuine fringe elements of hate. The SPLC

Snip from:

King of the Hate Business

What is the arch-salesman of hate mongering, Mr. Morris Dees of the Southern Poverty Law Center, going to do now? Ever since 1971, U.S. Postal Service mailbags have bulged with his fundraising letters, scaring dollars out of the pockets of trembling liberals aghast at his lurid depictions of hate-sodden America, in dire need of legal confrontation by the SPLC. Nine years ago, Ken Silverstein wrote a devastating commentary on Dees and the SPLC in Harper's, dissecting a typical swatch of Dees' solicitations. At that time, as Silverstein pointed out, the SPLC was "the wealthiest civil rights group in America," with $120 million in assets.

As of October 2008, the net assets of the SPLC were $170,240,129. The merchant of hate himself, Mr. Dees, was paid an annual $273,132 as chief trial counsel, and the SPLC's president and CEO, Richard Cohen, $290,193. Total revenue in 2007 was $44,727,257 and program expenses $20,804,536. In other words, the Southern Poverty Law Center was raising twice as much as it was spending on its proclaimed mission. Fundraising and administrative expenses accounted for $9 million, leaving $14 million to be put in the center's vast asset portfolio.

But where are the haters? That hardy old standby, the KKK, despite the SPLC's predictable howls about an uptick in its chapters, is a moth-eaten and depleted troupe, at least 10 percent of them on the government payroll as informants for the FBI. As Noel Ignatiev once remarked in his book "Race Traitor," there isn't a public school in any county in the U.S.A. that doesn't represent a menace to blacks a thousand times more potent than that offered by the KKK, just as there aren't many such schools that probably haven't been propositioned by Dees to buy one of the SPLC's "tolerance" programs.

I’m still wondering how he gets his regular marching orders and instruction from Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn.

Where do they get their money? How does Dees profit from the SPLC ? How does the Governement enable them, and to what degree is the taxpayer involved? ,.. Inquiring minds want to know.

They get contributions from various sources, and they also get money from "civil rights" lawsuits. When a civil rights lawsuit is filed against a governmental entity, federal law has the legal costs of the plaintiff being paid whether they win or lose.

So, now anyone who does not kneel and knuckle to the Socialist movement is a “Right Wing Radical?”

Look for them to try to use this as an excuse to crack down on gun owners. Particularly if more people go to protests in "open carry" states openly carrying.

>> The stress of a poor economy and a liberal administration led by a black president are among the causes for the recent rise...

A big 10-4 on that. Add the socialist sodomy of hardworking freedom-loving taxpayers, thieving of private property for the benefit of government and their cronies, a nosy meddling anti-bill-of-rights government, “free speech for me but not for thee” attitude, a supposedly adversarial press that is in bed with the regime, and I think we’ve got it!

>> the Southern Poverty Law Center says

Ah, the usual suspects. What the heck, I think I’ll write them and ask for a list of organizations and contact info — save me searching when it’s time to sign up! :-)

>> “All it’s lacking is a spark,” McEntire said

McEntire, you’re not very perceptive. There’s more than a spark — the FUSE has been lit and it’s burning furiously. Actually, I have to praise the restraint of the so-called “militias”. I’m surprised they haven’t already popped.

"How come they never ask me to join?"

Probably for the same reason they never ask me. I'm the enemy, a wealthy white conservative business owner, who obviously makes all his money off the backs of exploited laborers.

This is just the propaganda that you would expect from the Chairman BO’s supporters. It could be the groundwork for Chairman BO to extend his executive powers and for the DOJ to spy on right wingers.

It isnt us that play the race card anytime that we dont get our way.

The left immediately goes to the media and any of us who do not agree with them get labeled. We are “White”, “Right-Wing”, “Radical”, “Racist”, on and on and on.

It will be the Militias that save this Nation. It will be the Militias that help make the congress critters honest. It will be the Militias that about 80 million of us side with, so the Obamites might as well bend over and brace themselves.

Of course, the SPLC defines “HATE GROUP” as anyone who disagrees with the SPLC!

I don’t think having a black president has much of anything to do with the militias reforming. Mostly it is the implicit threat to gun rights. It tracks right along with the acceleration of gun and ammo sales and is very similar to the same phenomenon in 1992-94 when, as today, there was a threat of gun confiscation from the party in control of the presidency and Congress. In the early 90s the threat was more explicit but memory of the time helps fuel the militias now.Waco and Weaver spurred the militias then and that, too, is remembered. More Wacos are feared now. The militia phenomenon dissipated after that great sigh of national relief that followed the 1994 elections.

They’re down to about two cards now, Mr. B.
The Hitler (swastika) card & the race card.

Call, and raise!

They are using this to set up for a massive gun control regieme...

Obama, Pelosi, Reed, the Brady’s, and the Democrats, will seek these 4 elements in a gun bill

1. An expanded HR 45, gun owner licensing. All gun owners will have to have these licenses, even owners of facilimie weapons (AKA Airsoft and BB). Licenses will only be granted if the records of the applicant are clean (This includes misdemeanors from decades ago). Licenses will have high renewal fees ($100-300/yr). Licensees will be required to hold $1 million in liability insurance. Possession of otherwise permitted weapons (See #3) without license is a felony.

2. Ammunition accountability... All ammo will be required to be microstamped and will be taxed $1/round. All non stamped ammo will be required to be turned in or thrown away. Possession of non-marked ammo is a felony. This part of the act also bans “Cop Killer” bullets. Furthermore, this will require the gun to leave a microstamp of its own on the ammo. (BTW, this will also affect law enforcement and military ammunition stocks, as they will be required to have stamps of their own)

3. Expanded “Assault Weapons” ban— This includes most all semiauto rifles, anything that can be “Bump Fired”, Semiauto handguns, and Semi-auto shotguns. It also includes pump-action shotguns and “Sniper Rifles” AKA your deer rifle. The AWB will also require people with “Prebans” to register their guns as Machine Guns, and that the tax stamp will go up to $10,000 per weapon. If you can’t afford this, you have to turn the weapon in without compensation...

4. Expansion of the Lautenberg amendment: Removes “Domestic Violence” as disqualifier to gun ownership, inserts any misdemeanor as disqualifer... Anyone with a misdemeanor on their record will be prohibited from owning a firearm. This includes DUI and traffic offenses, and offenses decades ago.

Finally, all CCW permits will be voided. Also, all gun and ammo imports will be banned.

Rush is debunking the “swastika” thing right now.

And going forward, anyone playing the race card must be publicly mocked and ridiculed as lacking in argument and resorting to their only resort - hiding being the “shut up or I’ll call you a racist” shield.
