Birthers damage conservatism
American Thinker ^ | 8/13/2009 | J. R. Dunn

Farther back than even I can remember there occurred a national uproar concerning fluoridation. During the 1950s fluoride was being added to the water supply across the country in hopes of strengthening teeth and improving dental health. As little as one part fluoride added to a million parts water could cut tooth decay by as much as 40%. Furthermore, the effect was permanent -- people brought up in areas with fluoridated water remained resistant to decay their entire lives.

But the late 1950s had a distinct paranoid streak. It was the height of the Cold War, the years of Sputnik, Rudolf Abel, and the brutally suppressed Hungarian Revolution. Unintended responses to any such projects as fluoridation were to be expected, and that's what happened. The more excitable elements of America's right got it into their heads that this was a conspiracy to poison Americans, a conspiracy plotted and carried out by -- you guessed it -- the communists. It's unclear what kind of damage fluoridation was supposed to cause, but that didn't matter. People were putting chemicals in the water, and that was all they had to hear. (We see the same thinking in environmentalist panics today.)

It is a simple question: “Is Obama constitutionally eligible to occupy the office of president?”

With a nod of his head he could quickly provide the following:

*long form birth certificate
* Adoption records
* Repatriation records
* Selective Service registration
* College application information
* Passport records.

Also...Obama **himself** claims that his father was a British citizen here on a student visa. Even without the above records needs clarification from our courts.

Simple questions with a simple solution that Obama is refusing to provide. Instead he has fought this all the way to the Supreme Court and spent thousands of dollars of attorney time.

Yet...For asking this simple question, those who defend the Constitution are branded as nuts.

I appreciate your sentiments, concerns and suggestions. But do you think that list will find any more traction than the BC issue (Article II, Section 1) has in the courts? Who will hear these Constitutional grievances?

There will be a time friend. There will be a time. It is not now. The time is simply not yet arrived, but it will. It arrives for all tyrants, despots, and dictators.

If I had one wish, I’d want Adams, Madison, Jefferson, Payne, Henry and all the rest to show up for just one 24 hour period, to see this mess we have.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Our Founding Fathers would never have imagined that all of our Senators, every representative, every secretary of state in our nation, the entire Electoral College, every governor, nearly the entire media ( conservative and Marxist), the Supreme Court and every judge hearing this case would be a TRAITOR to the Constitution.

If they could see what has happened, their hearts would be broken.

I guess J.B. Trudeau (Doonesbury) thinks the "birther" movement is hurting conservatism too.

As if he really cared about the health of the conservative movement.

Farther back than even I can remember there occurred a national uproar concerning fluoridation.

What J. R. Dunn doesn't remember that this was during a time when we all knew that the Soviet Union sent all their political dissidents to mental hospitals to be silenced with drugs - "for their own good".

It wasn't about the fluoridation, it was about the government having the power to put a drug in your body against your will.

Surprise! Now we have Obama telling old people to take a pain pill and die. Swine flu shot, anyone?

The truth matters.

I was trying to figure out a snappy way to say what you just said, but...

Most of the time the simplest way is the best!

I am so tired of these self-proclaimed Conservatives attacking people who are questioning the Constitutionality of Obama’s presidency.

As stated by many of us, “JUST SHOW THE CERTIFICATE OF LIVE BIRTH” and let’s move on...BUT...IF you don’t have one Mr.OBAMA then step down in order for real Citizens to get this country back on the right track.

One question Mr. Dunn: “Did you feel the same way when the LEFTIES questioned Senator McCain’s birth certificate? Senator McCain proved himself to be authentic, so, what is wrong with Obama doing the same thing?

Birthers damage conservatism

THIS ATTITUDE is hurting conservatism.

Since when were Republicans the "Thought Nazis"?

And don't give me the crap about diversions from the "real issues". This is just one issue of many issues that can be advanced in parallel, that is unless Republicans are so one track minded they can't walk and chew gum at the same time. It also goes to the heart of Obama and his willingness to be open and honest as he promised. It doesn't hurt to keep asking. It seems to make the the Obamabots squirm.....

"For a couple of months late last summer, concern with the birth certificate might have been justified. That ended when the Supreme Court refused to hear the case."

There will be a time friend. There will be a time. It is not now. The time is simply not yet arrived, but it will. It arrives for all tyrants, despots, and dictators.

I see no traction with the birther cause, regardless of the merit. We're just singing to the choir. As long as the left and drive by media use it to confuse the moderates and independents to tarnish the right as lunatics, I say you have to know when to cut your losses.

The left is completely lost. We have to convince moderates and independents that the left is trying to destroy the country with all of the other outrageous, illegal and unconstitutional they have done already and what they are still trying to do.

more groupthink

Actually, I suspect not.

One, it isn't groupthink when you think one thing and you tell people (for your own convenience) to think something else.

Two, I haven't seen any polls of these well-educated "big-government conservatives", "neo-conservatives", and "economic conservatives" (economic royalists), on the question of whether they think Obama has no eligibility issues.

Personally I don't think he has a birth issue, he's just a bastard, but a natural-born bastard citizen of the U.S.

He may have a big, fat problem with his Indonesian citizenship, which he may have continued to exercise into his 20's and 30's.

So, how many of these worldly skeptics, these people who roll their eyes at "the birthers" and speak sagely of "winnable" issues, really think Obama's eligibility credentials are in Mom-the-Flag-and-apple-pie order?

Hurting conservatism? Not nearly so much as the damnable RINO’s over the past 15 years or so.

Needs-repeating bump.

All these "big government" so-called "conservatives" (Hamiltonian royalists, more like it) need a permanent vacation in the U.K., where they can admire up close the kind of government and party they'd like to emulate: the Tories, quietly snubbing each other to death in their cloakrooms over three fingers of single-malt while their help wait outside with their Jaguars to drive them home.

The Birth Certificate issue is now a mute point, whether a real issue or not, it no longer matters.

No, it's not a "moot" point. The only thing that should be "mute" are the people who keep saying "give up, give up, give up". Thanks for the advice, but I'll continue to listen to my own.

A quite thoughtful and indeed a provocative work. Well put indeed if one wishes to consider another point of view. Ending with an exhortation to move on and stop damaging the conservative cause. Fair enough.

There is however a problem with some of the basic examples. This is absolutely nothing to do with fluoridation. Indeed, even if it were, there are medical authorities who are not too happy with it. In addition to that Stanley Kubrick et al and indeed the late Peter Sellers in Hollywood movies, though very entertaining, are as remote from the subject as the moon. As was put by another Freeper.

"Just show us the damn certificate".

The original one.

Regardless of what happens with bammy, this issue must be clarified for future. I say at the least, all federal office seekers must reveal their long form BC, etc. and comply with the same checks as those seeking security clearances in the government. The first item, should be a requirement to satisfy Article II, Section 1, the checks should be written into election law. This to prevent disloyalty and foreign allegiances

Amen to that! Send that to every Secretary of State in the Country and all your State Legislators. This has to become law in each state before the next election. Good God, there isn't a requirement for POTUS to have to obtain a Top Secret Security Clearance? That's insane. I guess I assumed that was just Done on the national level. For one thing, Obambi would Not have passed Any security clearance, so let's get on it folks! Contact your local politicians and let's get this on the books!
