Glenn Beck losing advertising dollars (See Who's Cancelling Sponsorship)
Portland Progressive Examiner ^ | 8/12/2009 | Michael Stone

Posted on 08/15/2009 8:16:15 AM PDT by IbJensen

Glenn Beck, controversial Fox News personality, is losing advertising dollars for his program airing on the Fox News Channel. Corporate sponsors have been distancing themselves from Beck, fearing backlash for being associated with Beck's crazed and dangerous rantings and ravings. Recently Beck called President Obama a racist, just one of many utterances which has outraged his critics and worried his supporters.

Beck is known for his on air hysterics, his crying and manic gesticulations have become infamous. What is unclear is whether Beck is seriously mentally ill, or merely pandering in some gross and obnoxious fashion to the lowest, most base segment of American society. Perhaps it is both.

Regardless, GEICO is the latest corporate sponsor refusing to be associated with Beck. GEICO joins Lawyers.com, Procter & Gamble, Progressive Insurance, Men’s Wearhouse, State Farm, Sargento and SC Johnson in boycotting the Glenn Beck Show.

This display of corporate responsibility is admirable. Yet there are still some corporate hold-outs. General Electric, Farmers Insurance, Office Depot, Nestlé (Gerber), Red Lobster, Travelocity, the U.S. Postal Service, Walmart and Wyeth, are all targets for the on-going boycott being sponsored by ColorofChange.org,

Glenn Beck appeals to the worst in America. Media personalities like Glenn Beck, Lou Dobbs, and Rush Limbaugh exploit racism and race-based fear to increase their ratings, and encourage racial discord. It is time for good people to stand up to these racists and bigots. One way to do this is to support the boycott at ColorofChange.org.

One way to do this is to support the boycott at ColorofChange.org.

A way to counteract this boycott, is to begin one of our own! I've already contacted the ones who've canceled and told them we're canceling their products!

Subject: Principled approach to Glenn Beck comments

Ms. Gannon,

Thank you for your desire to denounce Sargento's support of "hateful speech used by either liberal or conservative... hosts."  It is refreshing to see a company stand for even handed principles.  To that end, I am wondering if you will support a full boycott of advertising and of marekting / advertising spend for various programs on NBC, MSNBC, CBS, ABC, and CNN who routinely have very liberal "television hosts" who attack ordinary Americans who protest taxation, or who attack conservative principles.  How about boycotting those television hosts who attacked Miss California over her courageous decision to stand for her principles as well.  After all, your comment was:

"We market our products to people regardless of their political affiliations, yet we do not want to be associated with hateful speech used by either liberal or conservative television hosts."

I'm encouraged by a genuinely even-handed, principled, fair-minded decision on advertising spend rather than one based on political agenda.  To that end I look forward to your response and will be posting this message on Free Republic and other sites who I am certain will anxiously await your response.  If you would like I have no doubt that there are many who can provide specific "liberal... television hosts" and their "hateful speech" that is "politically affiliated" including the network, program, and time slot if yours is a genuinely principled interest.

Thank you for your understanding and I look forward to your response.

Bill Wood
Charlotte, NC.

P.S.  My family has been loyal cheese loving Sargento brand purchasers for years.  However, we will be temporarily switching brands until we understand how strong your principles are about being even handed with "liberal... television hosts" and their "hateful speech".

One man’s “crazed and dangerous rantings and ravings” are another man’s “truth”...

Glenn is a bit over the top, sometimes. But, on the main, he’s on the mark.

Let the boycotting companies know that you will no longer be purchasing their products. Their knee jerk reaction to the ‘ColorofChange’ folks is reason enough to give them the boot.

It’s time to take back the country.

I’m not really a Glenn Beck fan myself but I doubt that very much in this story is true. By the way, Progressive Insurance is the money-making arm of the Lewis family, notorious red diaper babies and the original Marxist bankrollers of the Institute for Policy Studies, the think tank that launched a thousand Marxist fronts in America, including Comrade Obamsky.

Beck is too popular to not get sponsors. If some drop out, others will fill in.

It’s amazing how Bush and Palin can be excoriated with unbridled hate and vitriol. Yet any criticism of The Chicago Thug gets the left’s panties all wet.

There are likely hundreds of other companies dying to have a slot on Glenn Beck’s show, and have been waiting for those first in line to leave.

The Portland Progressive Examiner???? You don’t get more liberal than the garbage in this story. Beck by any standard is a Patriot and if some don’t see it that way and take their money elsewhere, so be it. I don’t have to buy their stuff and so be that. Make no mistake, Glen Beck has them in his sights and I want to know what he finds out. He has exposed ACORN and this person who lives in the White House for what they are, come on Glen, fire away!!!!!

Your’re Right. Boycott the Left!!!!!!!!! But there might be two keys: 1) publicity 2) state your reasons for boycott.

Maybe we could have a section of FR devoted to boycotts of the Left? Whooooooeeeeee. THAT would be huge. Include movies starring Leftists, music from Leftists. We outnumber them, they just have the (old) media. We don’t stand a chance unless we have numbers to show and an effect to be felt. In short, as long as we don’t organize- in some way- they will win. Can’t let that happen.

By the way, Progressive Insurance is the money-making arm of the Lewis family, notorious red diaper babies and the original Marxist bankrollers of the Institute for Policy Studies, the think tank that launched a thousand Marxist fronts in America, including Comrade Obamsky.

My son dumped Progressive after I showed him what Peter Lewis was all about. Furthermore, a little actual comparison shopping showed him that Progressive was not the "good deal" he had thought it was.

This Portland Progressive Examiner sure looks like it enjoys putting the old sigmoidoscope up Glenn Beck's microphone... maybe they could clean it off and use it on Olbermann and Matthews. On second thought, don't clean it off.

No doubt. His audience continues to grow both on radio and tv. It is just a stupid decision on these sponsors part. Their loss will be some other company's gain.

Where was these people’s outrage over the disgusting and vile things that were spoken on air about George Bush in the last eight years?

Right. Crickets....

There’s a campaign afoot on the left to silence all criticism of the Obamafuhrer and his National Socialist Congressturds.

Independents and moderate Dems are seeing this, and are as shocked as we on the right are.

The truth is, the leftist campaign to silence the opposition is unsustainable, despite their having complete control of Washington and the press. Our voices cannot be silenced, but with brute force, of which they don’t have the power to muster.

The anger being expressed in Town Hall meetings across the country is only the tip of the iceberg. Opposition to the radical leftist remaking of America runs deeper than they know, and will be reflected in the upcoming mid-term congressional elections.

Proctor & Gamble has done this kind of thing before. Anyone remember them trying to shut down Dr. Laura's TV show before it could begin? Here is a list of most of P&G's "family" of products (as they describe it on their website). If you boycott, let them know why:

Tide

Bounty paper towels

Crest

Oral-B

Iams

Eukanuba

Gillette razors

Charmin toilet paper

Febreze air fresheners

Old Spice

Ivory soap

Olay

Zest soap

Head and Shoulders

Pantene

Herbal Essence

Mr. Clean

Swiffer

Pepto-Bismol

Secret deoderant

Pampers

Luvs

Duracell batteries

Pringles

Cover Girl

Max Factor

"It’s amazing how Bush and Palin can be excoriated with unbridled hate and vitriol. Yet any criticism of The Chicago Thug gets the left’s panties all wet. "

Palin and Beck are two that are pointing out the game the left is playing, therefore, they are the two that are being attacked the hardest.

democrats - like cockroaches - don't like the light. When illuminated with the light of truth, they scurry in all directions looking for cover. Palin and Beck are shining that light on them and they can't stand the heat.

Men's Warehouse screwed me out of $700 and I'll never use them again anyway, and I remember Progressive and Geico as being bigtime clinton supporters back in his day. I've never even considered them as my insurance carriers.

Go to one of the sites where political contributions are listed, and support only those who support conservatism...but not those 50-50 types, who like to cover their asses with contributions to both parties...the middle of the roaders.

It's amazing what we can do without, that we thought we couldn't. They say it takes 21 days to establish a new habit, and that's all lifestyle is really, habits. So bite the bullet and change to someone who believes the same way you believe, and let the lizard die on the vine.

Gentlemen,
It has come to my attention that you have pulled your advertisements from Fox during the Glenn Beck Show.

It’s your money (at least until the new, improved tax increases kick in) and you may do with it whatever you wish.

I am, however, curious as to your reasons for doing so. Among the possibilities are the philosophical (read that “liberal/statist”) orientation of the majority of your management/ownership, the fear that Beck’s controversial – and after 30+ years of study of history – and CORRECT positions will offend existing or potential customers and, of course, simple FEAR that the corrupt Chicago mob now infesting Washington will engage in economic or other reprisals against those who oppose them (as they now have against Beck). That is, after all, “The Chicago Way.”

And THIS extended family unit will do what IT wishes with its money. As of now, that will include NOT purchasing ANY product or service your firm produces or provides.

I’m sharing this information with everyone with whom I have contact on the net and off until Obama and his minions declare the First Amendment null and void, making such communications criminal offenses.

If Obama’s continued destruction of the economy doesn’t cause you further distress, perhaps a good old-fashioned boycott will.

You’re probably not the least bit interested but here’s a little 7 minute video to give you something to think about:

Figures that commies would run a corporate “sweatshop” environment—the usual “workers paradise” nonsense applies whether it’s 1917 or 2009 or all points in between or after.
