Senator Ted Kennedy has died.
I’ll look forward to throwing one in a fountain or well. Or off a bridge.
thanks - that could have been his lowest moment....well, ONE of them.......
I went to a graduation where he was the speaker - he started out by ripping President Bush - the 1000 people in attendance began booing - he threw those papers down and spoke no more against the President.
Kennedy smears President Bush and our troops on the US Senate floor:
He described the Iraq war as a fraud made up in Texas as part of political strategy accused the President of the US of “telling lie, after lie, after lie”, in order to go to war in Iraq.
It will have his head on one side (With a neck brace collar) and an Oldsmobile on the other.
Prayers for Senator Kennedy and his family.
I made no insults.
What about stating the truth? That should be allowed, even in the wake of a public person's death. Especially if that person did repulsing things.
I pray his family seeks God during this time.
Prayers for his family, it’s a tough time.
He was a historical figure and a great man.
Couldn’t disagree more about the ‘great’ designation. He was born into a very famous, wealthy, politically steeped family. That is not what makes one ‘great.’ Certainly not in God’s eyes. The Scripture is clear on this matter.
I think we all understand human emotion regarding someone who has committed vile acts. I don't desire that for anyone beyond this life. Neither does God. That was why He came and walked among us as a human being. That was why He died. He lives.
And now we will get treated to a sickening barrage of MSM’s accolades to this disgusting monster of a man. May justice be meted out to you now, Teddy, you pig.
He also died surrounded by his family. Mary Jo never had the chance to do the same.
There will be justice.
There is sort of an unsaid FR rule not to speak unkindly of the recently departed, but I hope Ted Kennedy rots in hell.
Hmmm... you make an interesting point. Obama is on Martha's Vineyard now, not far from Ted's Hyannisport compound, and right next to Chappaquiddick Island.
Of course, you cannot compare the two. Now Ted Kennedy is dead.
When I first heard, I remembered back to that time in 1968. And then I remembered sitting in an Italian restaurant, all of us were watching Ted Kennedy it must have been the 1980 Democratic National Convention in New York. I think he was congratulating President Carter. If I recall he was announcing his own campaign had come to an end.
So I decided to go find that speech, and I did.
Here are some outtakes from that speech:
Let us pledge that we will never misuse unemployment, high interest rates, and human misery as false weapons against inflation.
We must not permit the Republicans to seize and run on the slogans of prosperity.
The 1980 Republican convention was awash with crocodile tears for our economic distress, but it is by their long record and not their recent words that you shall know them.
The same Republicans who are talking about the problems of the inner cities have nominated a man who said, and I quote, "I have included in my morning and evening prayers every day the prayer that the Federal Government not bail out New York." And that nominee is no friend of this city and our great urban centers across this nation.
The same Republicans who are talking about security for the elderly have nominated a man who said just four years ago that "Participation in social security should be made voluntary." And that nominee is no friend of the senior citizens of this nation.
The demand of our people in 1980 is not for smaller government or bigger government but for better government. Some say that government is always bad and that spending for basic social programs is the root of our economic evils. But we reply: The present inflation and recession cost our economy 200 billion dollars a year. We reply: Inflation and unemployment are the biggest spenders of all.
The tax cut of our Republican opponents takes the name of tax reform in vain. It is a wonderfully Republican idea that would redistribute income in the wrong direction. It's good news for any of you with incomes over 200,000 dollars a year. For the few of you, it offers a pot of gold worth 14,000 dollars. But the Republican tax cut is bad news for the middle income families. For the many of you, they plan a pittance of 200 dollars a year, and that is not what the Democratic Party means when we say tax reform.
The President, the Vice President, the members of Congress have a medical plan that meets their needs in full, and whenever senators and representatives catch a little cold, the Capitol physician will see them immediately, treat them promptly, fill a prescription on the spot. We do not get a bill even if we ask for it, and when do you think was the last time a member of Congress asked for a bill from the Federal Government? And I say again, as I have before, if health insurance is good enough for the President, the Vice President, the Congress of the United States, then it's good enough for you and every family in America.
And may it be said of us, both in dark passages and in bright days, in the words of Tennyson that my brothers quoted and loved, and that have special meaning for me now: "I am a part of all that I have met To [Tho] much is taken, much abides That which we are, we are -- One equal temper of heroic hearts Strong in will To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield." For me, a few hours ago, this campaign came to an end.
. Well, now hes passed. And I also remember a bridge, and a car, and a girl.
I guess they will probably try to name the Health Care Bill after him. I wonder if that plan is going to be the same plan where whenever senators and representatives catch a little cold, the Capitol physician will see them immediately
I guess the Congress and the President will all be on the same plan as everybody else. I am a part of all that I have met. I actually met Ted Kennedy once, in D.C., he was walking down the sidewalk, no security. I already told that story once, and being now that he passed, I wont tell it again. Humor has a time and place.
But mostly barf inducing fawning and hero worship.
But never ONCE did they mention Chappaquiddick.
This is the way Camelot ends.
What was ‘Camelot’? I think it was as imaginary as ‘hope and change’ and just as much a media creation. IMHO.
What he sowed in life, he shall now reap in death.
There are people who do not deserve any respect, alive or recently dead. Teddy the Lush was one of them.
Indeed. The joy tonight is not only knowing that he died without seeing his dream enacted - indeed, knowing that the odds against it were growing and that his selfishness might well be the thing to sink it in the end - but also in knowing that he suffered. Sometimes the world is a just place. He deserved so much more, alas.
Yep...that’s how I’ll remember him.
Does anyone find it odd that Obama chose to vacation in Kennedy’s neck of the woods at this time?
And, that Kennedy supposedly wrote a letter just a few days ago?
Gosh! Tin foil is getting expensive. ;o)
I haven’t been this busted up since Michael Jackson died.
fox threw it all out there for all to hear.
going on now again.
He pushed this national health care business right up to the end ... but he sure wasn’t willing to have it for himself or his family. When he got the brain tumor diagnosis, he got the absolute best doctors and care money could buy. What he believed in was mediocre healthcare for you and me, and the best for himself and his family/peers.
When one Senator steps forward who is promoting this healthcare travesty and says that he will vote for it when it includes all of the Congress, then that Senator will have credibility. No way would that ever have been Ted Kennedy. The only ones I can even imagine ever doing anything like that would have been Paul Wellstone or Paul Simon, both now gone.
I wont pretend to feel any sorrow whatsoever at the long-overdue passing of this evil, evil man.
Hear, hear. This man has decided on his own reputation. Are we to lie about it post-humously, when he himself formed it?
No such luck.
I'm gonna go play some solitaire.
Ted Kennedy has the dubious distinction of being singularly responsible for more damage to the security and well being of the United States than any other person in modern history.
It was likely written by an aide of his as directed by someone high up in obama's administration, probably Rahm.
“This may sound heartless I know and cynical.....but honestly I believed this would happen while Obama was there.”
I noticed that too. Reminds me of the timing of Obama’s Grandma offing.
Heard the news @ work (I work a night job). Death pool,
maybe delayed till later in the week.
WBZ radio is running a fawning tribute to him from ABC News.
Meanwhile we know ol’ Howie will have a respectful, dignified, and dare I say sober (!) tribute of his own.
Thankfully we still have Joe Kennedy. There will still be Wizard of Uhs contest. Sometimes.
“I hope Obama doesnt name the proposed Health Care bill after him and exploit that.”
sheesh, I’ll just bet he does!....sympathy vote.
Let’s just leave it with Good Bye, Teddy and Godspeed, Eunice.
Before the Mass. legislature got around to changing the method of replacing a vacant senate seat.
Did you forget the sarcasm tag?
Anyway, RIH Ted.
Why would you think that? Just because the rotund-teddedy was Obama's key early supporter? Or that Obama needing the votes in the Senate had a 24/7 feedback back from the K-clan on the state of his benefactor's health and probable date of demise.
Wasn't there a news tidbit that Obama would not visit Teddy during the vacation?
An isolated island where all in view of the One have their cell phones and cameras confiscated for the very first time, what could be better for all the secret patronage and fealty meetings that have already started?
You’re right, Camelot was made up. It was really the Kennedy Mystique. The following is an example.
“The bigger narrative of when Kennedy shuffles off this mortal coil is the end of “Camelot,” that idyllic image of John, Bobby, Teddy and the rest of Kennedy clan playing touch football at the family’s Hyannisport compound, of Jackie Kennedy’s perfect pillbox hats and little JFK Jr. saluting his father’s casket as it rolls by. This is the end of an era in American politics and history, despite how many of the next generation of the family are in public service. Ted Kennedy is the last tie to Camelot and has been the family’s patriarch for 40 years. The nostalgia for that “simpler time” will come back full force”.
The flip side is that of the “Kennedy Curse,” which we will probably be hearing much about in the near future, as well.
Must we act like slackers that live in Mom’s basement fantasizing about dating a real woman while working for minimum wage at Old Navy? We’re real adults here, and most of us have more class in our pinkie finger than the whole lot of them.
Should we not speak the truth about this man’s myth, while the SRM blares lies for two weeks, and then tries to manipulate it for the ‘good of the country’ (HR3200)? There’s nothing unclassy about that, imho.
I pray peace for his family and Mary Jo’s family.
Good riddance. May he rot in hell forever, especially in regards to what he did to Mary Jo. The world is a better place without him.
After arriving at his final destination and being informed that alcohol is prohibited, Kennedy just figured out he didn’t get to ride the “up” elevator...
I wonder if Clinton will cry fake tears as he did at Ron Brown’s funeral.
May 14, 1983 document from the KGB archives reveals that Senator Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.) reached out to the General Secretary of the Soviet Unions Communist Party, Yuri Andropov, to propose a kind of public relations strategy to counter President Reagans defense policy initiatives toward the Soviet Union, policies that Kennedy felt were too aggressive.
