BOSTON (Reuters) - Senator Edward Kennedy's death marks the twilight of one of America's most fabled political families, with no heirs to the Kennedy name poised to emerge with the same mix of gravitas, ambition and celebrity. Kennedy, 77, one of the most effective lawmakers in U.S. history and the brother of assassinated President John F. Kennedy, died late on Tuesday after battling brain cancer.

This would be interesting. Caroline lives in New York, but would she switch her legal residence to become a Senator from Mass.? we’ll see.

After her embarassing listening tour campaign to be a Senator from New York, would Caroline even be interested in this? Wouldn’t it look like shameless self-promotion if she did this?

jeez, you can’t swing a dead cat without hitting one:

Kennedy Townsend in MD
Joe Kennedy here in MA
Patches down in RI
RFK Jr on wherever there is a live camera.
Caroline down in NYC.

There are a bunch of others. We will have hangers-on for decades to come. When you see one in public, there are a dozen in the walls.

Is that supposed to be a joke? Alas, the "swimmer" will be placed on a pedastal and remembered with teary eyes fondly by those he decieved and betwitched.

"... Caroline down in NYC."

'Down in NYC' sounds so strange to my ears.

Out here, NYC is clear across the other side of the planet to the East as far as we're concerned.

If only it were true... But like horseshoe crabs and cockroachs [their intellectual and moral superiors], Kennedys NEVER go away... or evolve further.

Oh, there is lots more fun, further east than the Hudson. Almost downright beautiful. The air is clear, the water is cool, and there are Dems and Rino’s behind every bush.

Whooa! Isn't there still a Kennedy drunk in the HR? I remember a couple of years ago a congressional Kennedy got into a tiff with a policeman after he ran through a barricade or something at 3 in the morning. Got out of the car and started telling the cop that he had to get to the HR for an important vote or something.

Of course he was whisked away and after a short stay in drunk tank was declared cured.

Isn't he still stumbling around D.C?

William Kennedy Smith has name recognition. That’s always helpful if you’re trying to run for office.

You’re describing “Patches” (still Congressman from Rhode Island). He also got in the news for attacking a security guard who was just doing her job at LAX (I think she was fired as a result).

Yep — that’s Ted’s son, Patrick. I guess he just doesn’t have the “mix of gravitas, ambition and celebrity” necessary to pick up the flag. Maybe he got all the bad Kennedy traits and none of the good ones.

Kennedy, 77, one of the most effective lawmakers in U.S. history...

He was 'effective' only because he had a willing accomplice in the mass media, and because his last name was Kennedy.

Take that away, and he was just another corrupt, elitist, self-serving politician.

Spoof of Clarence Carter’s 1970s hit Patches

original:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5rhy2rBqrao

parody lyrics by me
My father was a drunk old man
I could see him with the Chivas in his hand
He put a blonde in the pond
Didn’t think he did anything wrong

Never spent any time in jail
Got re-elected without fail
Oh life’s not easy for a Kennedy
The booze and the broads and the pills you see
One night Daddy took me to his dyin’ bed
Poured himself a Chivas and with tears he said

He said, Patches I’m dependin’ on you son
To pull the family through
My son it’s all left up to youu

I can’t speak for others, but today I feel so much lighter knowing fatso can no longer add the burden of trillions of dollars more debt to be carried on the backs of taxpayers.

I hate that they call them “America's Royal Family”.. The old man was a rumrunner with a particular like for national socialists in WW2. he hid his disabled daughter away after he had her lobotomized. JFK was a philandering drug addict that almost got us into war because he hung the Cubans out to dry in the Bay of Pigs. RFK was a half a commie and Teddy was a drunken lout that killed his girlfriend in his car after a drunken bender. Ted's nephew, Patrick raped a girl in his house during a lost drunken vacation while teddy was sleeping it off. Teddy became famous for getting hammered and making “waitress sandwiches” (fondling and groping young girls) with his drinking buddy, Chris Dodd. Ted's son Patrick had several run-ins with the law with the latest ending when he rammed a police barricade under what is thought to be the influence of a combination of booze and narcotics but since they didn't perform a field check, he got away with it, again.

Meanwhile, the Bush's are much more representative of the moniker. Prescott was a WW1 vet and Senator, 41 was the youngest Navy pilot of WW2, Congressman, CIA Director, Diplomat to China, VP and President. 43 was a pilot in the ANG, admitted he had issues with booze and drugs but cleaned himself up to become Governor of the 2nd largest state and two term President, his other son was Governor of the fastest growing state in the country and has desires of future office.

No contest.
