U.S. Moves Toward Formal Cut Off Of Aid To Honduras

WASHINGTON, Aug 27 (Reuters) - U.S. State Department staff have recommended that the ouster of Honduran President Manuel Zelaya be declared a "military coup," a U.S. official said on Thursday, a step that could cut off as much as $150 million in U.S. funding to the impoverished Central American nation.

The official, who spoke on condition he not be named, said State Department staff had made such a recommendation to U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who has yet to make a decision on the matter although one was likely soon.

Washington has already suspended about $18 million aid to Honduras following the June 28 coup and this would be formally cut if the determination is made because of a U.S. law barring aid "to the government of any country whose duly elected head of government is deposed by military coup or decree."

The official said that $215 million in grant funding from the U.S. Millennium Challenge Corporation to Honduras would also have to end should Clinton make the determination that a military coup took place.

Could iot be that Honduras is strategicly located on the drug trial and these leftist africans and shitcago thugs running or trying to run everything in US have some financial incentive to keep the trail open?

I wonder what the real inside reason for this is. Zero is meddling again. The coup reason just doesn’t make sense.

My question was rhetorical. Obsama is a thorough Marxist, but with one modification: he’s a self-worshipping one. He’ll take all of the whacked left suggestions he can get, and appoint all of the leftist nut-czars he can, but in the end, it is all about him, not the Movement.

More the merrier in the dictator wannabe theater.

Write a note to Honduras Embassy giving them some understanding that most Americans do not agree with this or most things nobama is trying to pull.

On this matter however, it pisses me off because of the reason we are cutting off aid.

Exactly. All it is is squeezing Honduras in an old-fashioned thug/bully tactic; it is political extortion.

I hope Honduras has the stones to throw the US bases out of their country if this is done. The pressure is on because the next legal elections in Honduras are coming up soon and after that the communists of the world will no longer be able to say the government is a results of a “coup”, the way the lying ba*****s do now.

“All foreign aid should be stopped”

I didn’t know much about how foreign aid is doled out until 5 years ago when I moved to Eastern europe. If Americans with any sense (we KNOW who the other ones are) knew how little “AID” ever gets to the people who really need it that would start a taxpayer revolt. Far as I can see about 65 or 70% stays inside the beltway and falls into the hands of a bunch of slimebags who are only enriching themselves...whats left gets mostly eaten up by the local bureaucracy in the receiving country, and maybe 5 or 10% gets used on some stupid program that does no good anyway. The thing that really tops it off is the title they MAKE the local managers use: “Chief of Party”. I met one and when I saw the card I immediately said.. “Chief of Party?.. and thats the party you are having spending my tax dollars??”

ONLY a libtard bureaucrat would come up with a title like “Chief of Party”

It is ashame that a country that is trying to defend democracy is getting punished for lawful actions. I keep thinking I am missing something because it seems so obvious to me what side the world should be on.

I doubt world leaders like to see their peers removed. Might give the subjects ideas.

Cut off foreign aid to EVERYONE, no exceptions. If you’re totally broke and can’t pay your rent, you don’t hand out $20s to your dead beat “friends.”

I agree with cutting off foreign aid, but if you print your own money, you might want a bunch of it out there so other people don't stop using it...

Could be. I have wondered why a no-brainer like closing the Southern Border has eluded administrations for decades, too.

It isn't to have Communists roll the cigars...
