U.S. Moves Toward Formal Cut Off Of Aid To Honduras
Reuters via Drudge ^ | August 27, 2009

WASHINGTON, Aug 27 (Reuters) - U.S. State Department staff have recommended that the ouster of Honduran President Manuel Zelaya be declared a "military coup," a U.S. official said on Thursday, a step that could cut off as much as $150 million in U.S. funding to the impoverished Central American nation.

The official, who spoke on condition he not be named, said State Department staff had made such a recommendation to U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who has yet to make a decision on the matter although one was likely soon.

Washington has already suspended about $18 million aid to Honduras following the June 28 coup and this would be formally cut if the determination is made because of a U.S. law barring aid "to the government of any country whose duly elected head of government is deposed by military coup or decree."

The official said that $215 million in grant funding from the U.S. Millennium Challenge Corporation to Honduras would also have to end should Clinton make the determination that a military coup took place.

The Obozo administration is pretty desperate to get central America’s newest marxist back into power.

While I’m not a big fan of our aid budget, this is despicable. Why cut off Honduras, a struggling non-despotic neighbor, and send $900 million to the PA?

All foreign aid should be stopped.

There is nothing even remotely in any our founding documents that indicate the King shall tax its citizens and send its treasure to foreign kings.

Perhaps we should start calling the White House line and stating our disagreement with this travesty.

They think we’re too dumb to notice what they’re doing.

Because America’s enemies are Obama’s friends and allies, while our allies are his enemies.

"to the government of any country whose duly elected head of government is deposed by military coup or decree."

Not a coup, not a coup, not a coup.

Zelaya was legally removed when he committed treason by trying to unconstitutionally extend his term of office.

“Coup” “Coup” “Coup”

A lie repeated often enough becomes the truth, and it appears that Reuters has taken this lesson to heart.

Agreed.

It's wrong constitutionally and morally.

It doesn't help foreign countries any more than welfare helps people here. In fact, it hurts them.

Cut off foreign aid to EVERYONE, no exceptions. If you’re totally broke and can’t pay your rent, you don’t hand out $20s to your dead beat “friends.”

I read an editorial a long time ago that when the US cut aid to Israel that it was a unintended blessing for Israel. It forced them to give up socialist policies and expand free markets.

On this matter however, it pisses me off because of the reason we are cutting off aid.

Exactly.

When they realize that the lies just aren't cutting it anymore, I expect the next stage to be a total news blackout on any number of "sensitive" issues.
